This is a super oversimplified but during the Obama years all the left leaning goons got woke as fuck and it snowballed into 2016 where the woke goons all went nuts because everyone in the world wasn't woke goons master race. During this wokevolution the DR LP happened and all the woke Tumblr spergs showed up.

Lots of old good goons said fuck it and left.

Shmorky was a pedo.

Lowtax got his amateur pharmacist certificate.

People stopped joining to play Eve Online.

Reddit got big and pulled one subject people away.

Then Trump won and everyone including the Trump fans had no fucking clue how to act.
 
Lowtax was increadibly lazy and let his admins have total control over his site. Of course because being an admin had no monetary benefit, the only advantage to being "managment" was the "status and pride." So the people who were running the site were people very effectively narcissists who were very protective of their fiefdom. Of course, because SA claimed to be a comedy forum, people started taking shots at them. This led to comedy being effectively outlawed. (Icequeen once made being mean to others against the rules way back in like 2007).

Once all the "toxic" people got taken out, the inmates were in control of the asylum. As anyone whose been on the internet knows, autists and the "disabled" are the people who have the most time to build a community. And ever since the second half of the 2000s, those peopke have been careening down the slope to Marxism and buttplugs.

Don't get me wrong, shit like DR and the elections brought lots of worthless people in, but those are symptoms of the cancer that was pretty well entrenched well before Obama got elected.

my question wasnt really about SA and the down turn but more about the Connection between video games and the SJW cause, this might not be the best thread to ask it though.

It just seems counter intuitive that what I remember as being a group of 12 year old griefing and shouting fag over xbox live, being the audience and participants for LP/Streamers would have any fucking interest in pronouns women in gaming hillary or really politics or other meida in general.

like when i look at what happened with neogaph or restera etc.

It would be like if the players and fans of a professional sport starting promoting Scientology and being militant about it. I just dont see the segway for the cancer.

Or to put it another way all these fucking lossers what do they have to gain by drinking the SJW cool aid?

There was no singular cause of SA becoming a festering pit of trannies. It was death of a thousand AIDS-contaminated needles.

2008 was a real turning point; lots of the conservative posters toxxed for McCain (and unlike with the Hilary toxxes, they were actually enacted) and most of the posters just never came back. This by itself wasn't a problem, but Ozma (fat) had been filling staff positions with her toadies, who were SJW-kool-aid drinking histrionic proto-marxist faggots & catladies just like her. Then there was the influx of the tumblr-ite Dangan Rompa faggots. They spouted off SJW-approved view points while not caring about the forum's general culture, and anyone who engaged them was probated or banned. Rather than deal with this, posters just retreated to increasingly shrinking subforums and threads. Lowtax was almost completely absent in an ambien & wine haze by this time.

There were many opportunities to reverse or delay the rot, but its pretty much too late at this point. Even if Low-T purged all the faggots and made marxist posting outside of D&D haram, the funny creative people aren't coming back. And because all the funny & creative people are gone, there is nothing to draw in more funny and creative; no reason for new creative users to put up with web 1.0 shit when there are better communities to join and pimp themselves out on.

SA is dead, but it'll probably take a decade and then some before it actually implodes. SA still make over double the money to keep the lights on (just not enough to keep its pill-head owner in boxed wine and "sleep aids" in the style he's become accustomed to); Low-T has admitted you could get those costs even lower the legacy retardo code could be purged to allow for greater resource efficiency.

It's a complicated subject but the most plausible explanation to me for gaming getting ultrawoke is that once "Nerd Culture" and gaming became mainstream and shows like Big Bang Theory came into existence it drew a lot of people into things like gaming. A lot of those people were girls and so the majority male demographics started tearing themselves apart to try to impress the hundreds of thousands of new women in the market.

It just so happened this was around the same time as social justice and social media became mainstream so the most effective way to impress the ladies was to publicly white knight and defend their honor. From there it just solidified into SJWs = Gaming once social justice became established as something else to compete over.

The real reason gamergate exploded was that so many fair knights couldn't stand yon virtuous maiden having her honour questioned and violently recoiled at the very thought of the discussion that she could possibly be a huge whore. Later it became about every other minority or protected class as the white knights needed new and better topics to be virtuous about. Now people are just being SJWs because so many other people are SJWs and they want to be on the right side.

Another one of those thousand cuts was EVE Online. The Goon group there made it a requirement to have a SA Forums account to be eligible for membership. This drew in thousands of people from 2006-2010.

Those people weren't always the type that could roll with the punches and make or even understand jokes so you just had countless people showing up to shit all over the forums because they didn't join for the content of the forums.

It would be like if Null came out with his own cryptocurrency and thousands of people registered specifically to get some of the coins. A lot of them might never leave and just sit around complaining about the actual content here. In Something Awful's case they had a sympathetic administrator to give them what they wanted.

A super tiny fraction probably signed up to get all the Goonstation recipes for their Space Station 13 servers which were honestly some of the best ones. Lot of people that play that game are very very :autism::autism::autism::autism::autism::autism::autism:.

Loved that dumb game though, if you knew how to make some things you could totally troll the whole station and be perfectly safe from the mods with a little plausible deniability.

My go-to was grabbing a monkey from the vending machine> Cut it's brain out > Take it to the kitchen and make a brainburger > Feed the brainburger to another monkey > draw monkey's blood > take it to the lab and separate the blood from the prions > Grab every bottle of party pills (pills with a bunch of rando drugs and stuff in em) > mix em all up with the prions > Make pills from this concoction > name them something fun > Walk about the station dropping them everywhere > Laugh while every idiot dumb enough to eat one comes down with Kuru which is uncurable, they are just going to die while giggling constantly in the chat.

Now you're asking why I didn't get in trouble cause I wasn't the traitor anything when I'd do this. Well the general rule of the station was if you were dumb enough to pick anything up and eat it, then it was your own dumb fault. This included the barkeeps drinks and the chefs food.

They nerfed prions and made it to where you needed a lot more of them ingested for it to give you Kuru. Originally .000001% prions in your system would do the trick, so I could just make a ton of pills. I like to think it's because of me.

Sorry I just went :autism: but that's some of the most fun I had with goons even if said goons were crazy SJW types from what I could tell. I just figured out how to torment them in a small way and it amused me.

After that I just stuck to accidentally blowing up the toxins lab making explosive gases.

There was no active posting requirement. Your forums account just had to be more than 3 months old to be accepted into Goonfleet. Literally thousands of people just bought an account to get into Goonfleet. They also didn't care if you were a J4G after the first year or so because they wanted as many bodies as possible once they started competing at the 5,000 - 10,000 person level.

This is even more worthless internet drama than Something Awful but that's a big reason they fell apart as an organization. Eventually the majority of the people were just regular EVE players that used the forums to get into the super secret club that it became like every other group. A lot of those people stayed on the forums.
 
Ah that makes sense. I was only in Goonfleet for a little while but didn't like EVE enough to stick around. The goon SS13 group was fantastic and I don't think I've ever had more fun playing online. I wasn't great at it but I enjoyed ruining people's lives as the janitor.
 
My only point about Eve was j4g made money for lowtax. Nowadays the game isnt bringing in new players.

Space lubricant is a very dangerous thing. I was stupid robust by the end of it myself, like I'd figured out how to suplex people off tables and all sorts of stupid crap and understood how the lag worked for the most part.

Killed everybody on the station once as the wizard too.

Gaming didn't get "woke" in general, though. Kingdom Come sold a million copies despite being an independent game that the usual suspects threw a tantrum about. Meanwhile, Brianna Wu barely out-earns Chris on Patreon, and won't even get on the ballot for the District 8 primaries.

Nixon attributed his 1972 landslide election victory to the "silent majority" of conservatives who went unnoticed because of the vocal minority of progressives. People seem to have lost sight of this phenomenon when talking about gaming.

Money talks louder than autistic screeching, and Something Awful and friends mostly only have the latter.

I'm less convinced these days that it's anything even as nuanced as that. If I had to wager, I'd say that all the mainstream woke bullshit today is a consequence of social media giving an actually-tiny number of social justice cultists a disproportionately loud voice (massive understatement), and their useful idiots in the tech savvy media signal boosting them for social cachet. That explains why so much of this shit has roots in niche academia like Critical Theory and why so many fuccbois like Wil Wheaton and Joss Whedon don't seem practice what they preach on Twitter.
 
I always thought the pozzification of "nerd culture" happened was because nerd culture is full of shy, unassertive autists who are easily henpecked by obnoxious, ugly women.

That's definite vector for acquiring some form of pozzing that's for sure. Ozma & Ice Queen were good examples in the beginning now you got people like Koalas March that throw their weight and color. (that latter is suspect though)

I hope we are on the downswing of it because in the 90's it lasted for a good 5-6 years before it burnt out till the mid 00's where it started appearing a bit on the internet but not really in mainstream society again till about a year or so before the election. Then everything seemed to amp up to the nth degree and started leaking out into the real world where people actually ended up entertaining too many of these crazies.

We need a remake of the movie PCU and then we can start to heal.
