Actually, yeah, you're right, it's far more usual to have the pretence of a wide-ranging community than the ideological bubble it typically is.

I wonder if anyone has pointed out to Lowtax how the $10 account charge is preventing disadvantaged and vulnerable minorities from being able to join the community. Lack of access to a credit card disproportionly affects poor people and black and latino communities. Proof Lowtax hates black people.

I know you're joking, but it's ironic that a site that's now full of Communist retards effectively ensures that the members with the most disposable income get to speak more freely and are granted more privileges (they can buy their way out of bans, buy avatars for themselves and others, etc).

That is what completely and totally 100% black (so black you guys) moderator Koala's March goon aid fund should have been used for, buying accounts for disadvantaged minorities.

Lowtax's hatred of Notch comes partially from this really weird place of ownership as well, he's mentioned this a few times and first alluded to it during his spergout at the man that led to his block. He mentioned that Notch used the SomethingAwful community for feedback, beta testing and other purposes that helped the game grow into the behemoth that it is today, but never 'paid his dues' back to the community. That Notch abandoned SomethingAwful as soon as he didn't need them anymore and didn't give them any money for their help.

He's really bitter about people doing this in general. He's mentioned that about Night Vale, Mega64 and other content creators too. He seems to despise these people for being in his community and later getting popular.

This shit is the stuff that makes me really have no pity for Lowtax's situation. He (to varying degrees) could have prevented this easily by being more involved in some of these projects but instead decided to fuck it up constantly. Not only Night Vale, Minecraft, and Mega64 but also Let's Plays, retsuprae, Yahtzee, YOGSCAST, 4chan, and god knows what else. He complains about people leaving for other platforms (twitter, youtube, ect) but never realizes it's because he's made the content creators GO TO THE OTHER FUCKING PLATFORMS by trying to be lazy and/or cheap out. Did think that fans would just stay on SA and not migrate to the other platforms too?

The only person he should really be bitter at is himself because how many gifts can you just give away? Did he really expect Yahtzee to turn down WAY more money elsewhere to "help SA"? Or did he think that the best way to help Mega64 was to mail DVDs in the age of youtube? Something Awful is such shit that when Lowtax just wanted to kick back and make fun of stupid things people do on the internet and maybe see some funny photoshops he realized they don't even have people that do that anymore and had to come here.

This recent attempt to sell merch is hilarious. There was a time when thousands of goons were clamoring for SA gear, but why bother now? A vast majority of those goons were driven out or left long ago in disgust. Should have struck while the iron was hot, instead of being too lazy to fulfill orders and then banning folks who complained about getting ripped off.

I remember a thread way back in the SASS days that the goons were begging for another run of the SA hoodies and LowT shot them down, saying something like "They'd be $50 a piece, I could never selll them." Which is funny, considering the local bar I used to go to in a town with a population of ~2,000 people, managed to have T-shirts and hoodies for sale at a reasonable price.
