He's partially right about competing platforms, that definitely took a bite out of them. But reputations develop, and less and less people are going to register when the people that do get banned for trivials reasons and they're out $10. When you are faced between something like Digg where you can post for free and SA where you spend $10 to be out whenever an admin disagreed with your opinion, it's obvious what would happen.

Lowtax has never, ever cared about being a halfway decent businessperson, and has never viewed himself as such. Instead, he wanted to be the big man and everyone loved (especially his inner circle) and if you didn't like something he said then DONT FUCKING BUY IT DONT FUCKING DRINK IT DONT FUCKING CLICK MY LINKS. He won't adapt because he never does anything wrong, and if he's been doing it, that must be the right way. If you're complaining because you didn't get what you paid for (like complaining about archives not working despite being charged to view them) then they just banned you under some Lowtax's bullshit guise of being a toughguy that don't take no shit.\

It also didn't help that the funniest and most amusing users, especially those funnier than Lowtax, which was many of them, would get banned because "banning users is funny!"

What Lowtax didn't get was "wacky" bans were only fun when other people (more than just the cabal of Mod boot-lickers) were in on the joke.

P.T. Barnum had a part of his museum dedicated to "The Amazing Egress"; going through the door would take one to the alley behind the museum, where one would find themselves locked out & unable to get back in. These people would then go around, buy another admission, and try to dupe other people into also going to see the Egress.

None of those people would have come back around if there was a 250-lb pale woman from the Michigan suburbs who berated them for "not knowing latin, you ignorant Whig" and called them racist if they refused to put a dime in the nearby kettle labeled "For the Poor (me)". Or if friends of the owner were allowed back in for free, especially annoying if after they kept pestering you and inviting you to "step outside", they escape punishment and you're expected to pay again.

I completely agree. It just made everyone outside of Lowtax's circlejerk cabal get angry seeing hilarious people get banned for what was obviously Lowtax not wanting to share attention. I recall some guy with these ridiculous stories, I think they were stories about working at the zoo or something, and one day he was banned, maybe permabanned, and he never came back.

And if it happens maybe once, it'd be funny. But if the staff keep pushing you out to "The Amazing Egress," that would infuriate people.

Also, as an aside... unlike Lowtax, PT Barnum was actually a really great guy.

Almost as if forums are now a user's market. Almost as if driving out the star attractions in a forum is counter-productive. Really makes you think. I think Lowtax deserves everything that's going to happen.

It was sad how jealous LowT was of funnier users. My only direct exchange with LowT is an example of this. A first time writer had contributed the front page article. I, along with most others who commented, praised it and said said we'd like to see more. This was back when SA was still a happening site, so that was tons of people giving it a thumbs up.

For some reason, LowT decided to reply to my comment out of all the similar comments. He basically said he thought the article was crap and it would probably be a one and done with the writer... Even though it had near universal praise from more than a hundred goons who commented. Gee Richard, maybe it didn't reach your “bald toilet man” level of sophistication, but you should probably give your clientele what they want. Not that it matters now.

This reminded me when someone on /v/ got banned for saying "Mario And Luigi Superstar Saga is shit" and it was just an unspoken rule to not talk shit about the game. That was funny because someone got banned out of nowhere (and you can "unban yourself" on 4chan.) If he wants competition with that kind of attitude, then I don't know who he'd compete with considering neoGAF is anything but alive.

Oh and you know, paying to go on an internet forum.

He looks like a retarded, fatter version of this guy

I too, would drink alcohol if I thought my income depended on "gaming garbage".

I jumped to a random point in the video and he was drinking something that looked like beer or wine.

He was drinking during most of the livestream. He'd been billing it as "drunk Gaming Garbage" on Twitter for a while. Kept referring to the booze as "Wootstout" which appears to be an actual type of beer.

So who is Lowtax's co-host?

That's Jonathan Wier. He's a radio personality. He's also verified on Twitter, lmao.
