This is a bit of a tangent but you mentioned Lowtax's Patreon and I just want to let people know how bad he actually is at the service. I'm not ashamed to admit that I subscribe to him but I'm probably going to stop at this rate. His whole pitch was that if you subscribe to his Patreon at the $7 tier you get early access to the Gaming Garbage videos. Not an amazing reward, but still something that fans and regular viewers would like. He stopped doing that entirely like a week ago. The last three or four didn't get any timed exclusivity for subscribers- he just uploaded them normally.

Not only that, there are two other reward tiers as well that he hasn't even touched. If you pay like $14 a month you're supposed to get access to hangouts and the like where you can chat with him and his co-host Jonathan. I think it's been over two months and he hasn't even done one. The other reward is access to his private Discord, which is entirely dead. There are a few fans in there but Lowtax hasn't even bothered to post in it one time.

This is Lowtax, so I imagine his reasoning goes something like "Patreon is stupid and you're only supposed to give me money ironically so me not fulfilling any of my promises is part of the joke LOL"

Using humour to deflect responsibility is basically Goon 101.

Speaking of deflection, remember when Lowtax would justify his Notch freakouts by going "I'm writing an article on Notch and his cultist followers!" and expect that answer to work? Someone should ask him where that article is right about now...

But why didn't he just hold a poll or vote, asking who thought implementing Canadian/UK ideas about hate speech as site rules, ban everyone who was for it, and purge the staff top down? The heyday of Something Aweful is long over and the only people stupid enough to pay $10 a month to post on an oudated php forum are social justice crazies and troons. If Lowtax bans them he loses everything and has to face the world as a fifty year old man with no skills who hasn't held a job in decades. He's desperate to avoid that scenario.
 
A forum of the internet that welcomes people of rightwing/notshillary shillporters, but is largely about other interests, say scifi, althistory, movies, vidya, rpgs? SA would literally suck up thousands of people banned across the web. From Giantitp, Neogaf, rpg.net, Ianland, KMC, etc. Open up a vs debate forum for maximum autismo and fuckers would also start pouring from refuse piles like CBR and Narutofan forums. Not to mention a shitload of people generally tired of reddit being garbage and little more than a tumblr colony.

The "market" is there. He may have to change his forum a bit as bait, but its doable.

He tried to stand up to the mods during the Shmorky bullshit, IIRC one of the mods does coding work for SA for free and threatened to leave unless Lowtax backed-down, so Lowtax backed down.

It's a one-time fee, not per-month (you have top pay more to get an avatar, search the forum, have access to archives though).

"Stonetear" was the alias of Hillary Clinton's IT guy, who went into Reddit like a fucking idiot and asked how to securely delete sensitive material for a "very VIP" client. The Stonetear on Something Awful might have been the same guy, but I don't actually know if it was ever totally confirmed. I doubt Lowtax got a subpoena over it, or else he probably would have bitched endlessly about "the shit he has to put up with" like that time LF got him a visit from the Secret Service.

As for why Lowtax won't get rid of the Marxist circlejerkers currently running his forum for free, it's solely because they're running his forum for free. I'm pretty sure that Lowtax himself is a Libertarian of some kind, and I know that he has (or had) shitloads of guns and a not-entirely-concealed disdain for alternative sexuality. Hell, he himself said that he hates far-left politics on this very forum. I suspect that the primary problem Lowtax faces comes from his volunteer coder, who has previously threatened to leave if Lowtax and his wife didn't stop antagonizing the Fifth Column Faggot Squad ruining SA. Without a coder willing to work for nothing, Lowtax would probably have to pay a pretty penny to hire one, and he's not exactly flush with cash at the moment.
