What was the dirty laundry?

I was referring to Something Awful rather than here.

Nothing you don't see from any other break up with an crazy chick. Super mundane shit pumped up to sound awful like "He abused me by telling me I was crazy" and shit like that. You'd think he'd have learned from that to never put your slam-piece in charge of any aspect of your income stream but lol

Problem is now he's not doing anything to fix it.

Short of shutting the whole thing down, there's not a whole hell of a lot he can do. The launch of "GBS 2.1" was a good start, and GBS has been a lot better since then. But the various subforums are more or less set in their ways at this point. Unless they give him an active reason to shut the subforum down (like getting the Secret Service called on you), it'd be worse if he stuck his head in and started making arbitrary changes.

Lowtax is basically a victim of his own "success". He let the forums run themselves for a decade, and now he's more or less fucked when it comes to making any changes to the place. SA basically is what it is at this point.

I would argue having far too many subforums is the root problem. Way too many little separate entities have formed and hate the others or take ont heir worst aspects to create another subforum. A/T, PYF and shit like the comics and movie forums shouldn't exist because they get far too up their own asses and just drain content from GBS. BYOB and FYAD would be fine going back to their original intentions instead of just being a breeding ground for unfunny shitheads who weren't able to make it in to weird twitter. Games is literally an arm of D&D anymore and the Sports subforums are all just political bitchfests now save the soccer forum, amazingly enough

I sorta agree. I personally don't think the issue is too many subforums, I think it's too many useless subforums.

PYF and A/T are trash. FYAD and BYOB don't need subforums. Games Forum has at least 3 subforums too many. There's at least 3 forums dedicated to discuss movies and that doesn't count the inevitable discussion that occurs in GBS. Your City Sucks and Goon Meets are both holdovers from when people used to actually have goon meets so they can go. The only use of PHIZ is a containment forum for assholes. QCS is more or less an FYAD subforum at this point. etc etc etc.

Edit: A good example is The Imp Zone, the shitposting Games subforum. I love the concept, but the forum was built because people in Games take shit too seriously. Maybe the answer is to make Games less shitty instead of opening a new forum.

Pretty much this. The audience Lowtax has now is basically a paid-for NeoGaf, with mods who are even more extreme. The problem is Lowtax needed to do a purge a LONG time ago if he wanted to keep his humor and standards.

The place is completely humorless now, with more handwringing, morons, virtue-signaling mongoloids and sophist 'debate' than I care to count. Who the fuck wants to deal with that shit? SA is never going to be the way it once was, better to contain all the shitty people behind a paywall and let them jerk each other off than release them into the wider world.

SA forum members don't give a fuck about him any more. He can't even post a thread without it dying after a few pages. He seems to be hellbent in becoming a success at things no one wants him to do like video game streamer and YouTube lets player.

The funny thing is that his mods and admins basically perma'd, banned, probated and ran off pretty much anyone who actually liked Lowtax. Nobody there actually cares who he is. It basically isn't his forum anymore. His 'hands-off' policy and not vetting his mods/admins and keeping them in line with what he wanted basically destroyed the place.

Lowtax's humor is not in line with SA, and they aren't going to watch or support his streams. They are more likely to watch that fucking faggot on PBS who wears lensless glasses play through a game or watch a Josh McGosh/Anita video rather than his.

Echoing what proteus said, the problem has been the mods rather than lowtax, when it came to "sculpting and influencing the culture of the boards", but I don't think it was deliberate. I think it was largely incidental as a matter of that being the end result of having mods who lean a certain way overall and don't have any particular drive or principal to act in good faith or be neutral, which is where you get a lot of the insane transphobia bans, for example.

Lowtax's only real attempts to shape things were when he and his wife finally responded to the cries of "The D&D mods are leftist babies who can't help but coddle the most insane users and stifle discussion of all other points of view".

The biggest example of that sort of thing being the case were the hellthreads which were effectively unmoderated containment threads where people could bring up all the controversial or weird points that would get you probated or banned if posted in D&D(or anywhere else really). And in the case of the one that Ralp and Fluffieduckie torpedoed, it was a matter of those threads being safe as long as they were out of the reach of those sorts of shitty mods who use their position to punish people for their ideas, Ralp at least should be commended for not having a meltdown immediately, but when he did have his it was spectacular(multiple 100,000 hour bans for being a "Garbate Pit bigot").

Yes, none of the mods or admins acted in good faith or were 'reasonable'. The number one rule is agree with the mods or get probated/banned. If you think differently? Probated. Keep thinking differently? Banned. Argue anything but far-leftist communist talking points in D&D? Probated then banned. They were so overly sensitive that they couldn't even handle one fucking thread that didn't agree with them and they didn't have to visit.

After the 100,000 probations (So hilarious), which were approved by Lowtax btw, I realized there was nothing left for me in that shithole. Lowtax just wanted that sweet, sweet, re-reg money. And fuck if he thought I'd spend any more money there after that happened.

I like to challenge opinions, general social mores and things that people deem 'offensive' or 'off limits' (which is pretty much everything these days). Its all in good faith, because things should be questioned. (And lets be honest, shit posting is fun). But when you have a bunch of cunts who are so mentally weak they cannot handle alternative opinions that they don't even have to confront, read or experience, what is even the point of posting there anymore? To whimper in a corner and participate in their mutual circle jerk? Fuck that shit.

Also he repeated that stupid fucking thing about Kir threatening to rape his kid. It was a MUSIC REFERENCE you stupid fuck. It really must have had a big effect on him for him to bring it up so many times, and never in the context of him finding out it was a joke.

Congratulations, KiR, you "won."

The irony is Lowtax still has a full head of hair, and isn't an ole hairline ass nigga.

E/N subforum is another shit one, as pointless as A/T and PYF. You can't discuss stuff you know about, show things you like or even talk about your own damn life in GBS anymore, whats the fucking point.

e/n used to be entertaining and keep crap out of GBS proper. In recent years it's become an offence to mock the idiots who post in e/n so it's no longer funny and serves no purpose.

The recent calls for a recovery forum also blew me away. TCC is the most unintentionally funny forum on SA. It has a recovery thread. To open a dedicated recovery forum on a comedy website is absurd.

Recovery from what? Shitty jokes?

TCC is The Crackhead Clubhouse, the forum that would have been the most controversial on SA except blah blah blah Secret Service visit. For years it's been a hilarious place where you can read stories about retards shooting up heroin in front of their mother and in the same paragraph claiming they didn't have a problem. While SA has a general "look but don't touch" attitude towards the rest of the internet, TCC is the first time I'd ever seen SA have a "look but don't touch" attitude towards one of their own forums. They provided so much hilarity to the rest of the forums who weren't worthless barely-functional drug addicts.

TCC gave us such classics as the guy who shot up heroin and passed out on top of his arm long enough that he needed it to be amputated. Delusional junkies in TCC claim the subforum is about harm reduction, and this incident led to the joke, arm reduction. The guy whose girlfriend overdose and he just left her be for hours while he continued to get high and post in TCC. I don't know how the latter ended. Also the guy who was addicted to imodium passed out while in his running car, died and his widow tried to commit insurance fraud.

So what happened with Facts Are Useless?, he used to be seen all over the forums.

I guess thats why ZDR had to go full retard shouldnt the fucker just be hashing code? and not proving how big his dick is?

I think lowtax had a talk with him and he now sticks to posting in a few places. He claims he was spending countless hours on the forums and it was having a negative effect on him.

Also, there's an update on the migration complete with another donation link!

I'm currently in talks with the XenForo folks to determine when their upcoming huge 2.0 release will be (they've been talking about for several years, but it's finally out now for beta testing to the public). If the ETA is relatively short, I'd prefer to migrate the SA Forums directly to their new 2.0 version instead of going to 1.5.13 and then having to upgrade / change everything when v2.0 is released. This will save a ton of downtime and possible data corruption, and I know how much all of you hate having your data corrupted, so I'll give you all a heads up when I get some sort of vague ETA. SHIT'S BEING WORKED ON THOUGH, SO TURN THOSE FROWNS UPSIDE DOWN AND JUST KEEP IN MIND I DONT WANNA FUCK SHIT UP SO I'M GOING AS SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE GOD FORBID I MESS UP ON THE INTERNET AND LOOK EVEN MORE LIKE A TOTAL ASS, MANGOSTEEN

You got those last two mixed up. The guy that OD'd on Imodium was in a movie theater (he was afraid of public toilets) and the other guy passed out from opioids in his car and literally roasted to death in his driveway.

good shit

The rest of Something Awful are worthless, barely functional sober people.

In my opinion the best was the one where they discovered a drug that turned you into a normal, socially interactive person but made you totally unable to control a vehicle, susceptible to falling into a month-long incoherent daze and totally unable to know when you should stop taking said drug. It was like moths to a flame, they should have known better but they just couldn't stay away.
