I still check in on this old Usenet group I posted on in the late 90s from time to time. I wasn't on Usenet in its heyday, but I checked it out a bit back around 98-99 before I got into posting on Internet forums. There are three or four guys who are 50+ on there who don't subscribe to any streaming services, still update each other about their lives and projects and stuff and do shit like buy Disney+ shows on DVD to watch them. They'll probably just be there talking to each other in their little clubhouse until they die. I think SA is kind of an elder millennial version of that now. People go there and talk about the shit they talk about because it's what they've been doing for the last 20 years.
That's unironically what internet communities should be, but what a place like SA isn't. I bet those guys aren't looking around to throw each other under the bus at the first sign of wrongthink. Every day SA creeps closer and closer to being like your group with every user they chase off and the idiots are completely blind to it.

The name, of course stuck and it's etymology is of course referring to the original slang term for a hired thug of low intelligence and high brawn.
Frankly SA was better when it was people competing to be the biggest retard on the site rather than the biggest wokescold. That was the kind of content you saw all over the web even if, like me, you never had an account there. A lot of that retarded shit was actually funny. Some has not aged well but there are still memes from that era shambling around.
