The Dark Id Saga (complete) is both really gay and really hilarious. I'm surprised he never got a dedicated lolcow thread because dude was on a constant Gray Man LARP, often just literally reframing movie/TV and book plots into a story where he did super cool spy/Assassain stuff and everyone stood up and clapped, and people just accepted his bullshit.

I've always wanted to know if the term "gooning" originated on Something awful or is it just a coincidence? The earliest urban dictionary entry I can find for it is from 2005 which is around the peak of the site. Probably just a coincidence though.

I never heard the term gooning on SA, even before 2005. Troons however absolutely was born there, in fact it originated in one of the first E/N Ask Tell threads about being a transsexual…and it was a positive “you’re part of community” term. LMAO

4chan was born because Lowtax didn’t want loli shit on SA, so I don’t think anything like “gooning” would have ever been tolerated on old SA. I’m sure they’d be fine with it now tho

Troon came to be because the queers on SA called themselves fagoons, a portmanteau of Faggot and Goon. Thus the trannies were "trans fagoons" shortened to "Troon".

I don't think it was the ground zero of the modern tranny menace but it definitively defined the archetype. A lot of the tactics they used were refined in LF and Helldump as well.

IIRC the etmytology went as follows: Something Awful -> Something Sensitive -> /pol/ -> rest of the internet. Why it went like this, it was likely because back during Gamergate, dudes were reading SS because it was one of the very early documenters of funny goon drama that the original 5 guys shit was about.
