Crosspost from the Virtual YouTubers thread:

I was active on the Something Awful forums about a decade ago, and there was one Let's Player called DazzlingAddar who just suddenly transitioned to female in the middle of a video, it was bizarre. I was just thinking about him and I found out that he recently got a Vtuber persona, and it's pretty much what you might expect from an AGP:

so that's the voice that ruined every let's play it was involved in. i believe when it started, there was a post warning people not to say anything about the voice. maybe there were even suspensions, lol.

that voice is like a crab looking for a bush of pubes to nest in. going by the coomer design of that v-tuber (huge tits, and the bosom being used as a shelf), addar must ooze autogynephilia like body odor.

Dude even changed the way he talks, not even just voice pitch but the manner of speaking and language used... Damn, that sucks. I don't think I hated that guy.

That has to be one of the worst vtuber models I've ever seen.

I'll be fair here, usually when someone starts vtubing they're not going to start out with some top-of-the-line model, they're usually going to start out with something more budget friendly and usually the cheaper vtuber models are at least passable.

In this case though, the lack of facial expressions (other than smiling at you) and how it looks like it's staring into your soul is off-putting at least to me anyway.

I really enjoyed the Donkey Kong 64 stream he did with two other guys but have no idea if it would hold up today.
It was quality back in the day but most older LPs really don't hold up all that well. DK64 is such a slog the video series was bound to get gummed up due to pointless collection.

Vtubers scare me especially since they seem like furrys
I see them as more like the evolution of furries and the MLP (bronies) fad, with the exception that these actors can actually speak and cater to their audience more directly, should they choose. Takes time and money (the more serious ones) to design their animated characters looks/voices (vTubers/furry). They then go and "create shows" for their fans to watch - chatting about bullshit, playing games, showing themselves off and having crossovers with other vTubers (MLP but less kid oriented).

Just a merge of furry and MLP fandoms in my opinion. They dress up, are animated (exaggerated looks), and act silly/childish. Not just anyone can do it (furries throwing on cat ears and done, cheap and lazy, doesn't count. Wasting time and money on the full on suits... just why?) make little "cute" animated skits (MLP), and people eat that shit up.

Furries are everywhere but are mostly nameless and don't have audiences, but this new crop of vTubers have names and personalities that make people argue over who "the best 'girl/waifu' is." Having dedicated channels means anyone anywhere can tune in and get their "eye-candy" and a taste of a parasocial relationship while thinking it goes both ways.

I don't know, I don't watch them. I've seen a few clips and read people chatting about this shit everywhere, but can't, in anyway, get into it myself. All comes across as very cringe.

Just feels like the next fad. Not to say that people broadcasting using avatars is a new thing, just the way these vTubers seem to fawn over their audience and get the same response in return while monetizing it... good for them? I must admit, arguably better than twitch thots? I still see it as "current year(s)" fad though.

TL,DR: I'm fucking tired and hope I got my point across, but basically I see it as a combo of furries and bronies. The furries being the vTubers and the bronies being the ones picking out which animated avatars are the "best girl/waifus."

I think it's a fad. Although it hasn't crossed into IRL? Unless they start having conventions for this shit, it seems to be confined to the internet (good). Those fucking horror stories of furry/brony conventions (though funny) went a little too far at times, to say the least.

Some advertisers have already used vtubers in the past before to promote their shit. I remember that Taco Bell anime commercial from a year ago that featured a ton of weeb shit and one of the Hololive talents had a cameo in it so it has pretty much went IRL and you're really late to the party buddy.

It might be a fad but so far it's still a really big money maker much like Twitch streaming that I don't think it's going to go away or lose steam anytime soon then.

This is what happens when you suffer the furry to live.
You were warned.
