For those who don't know the piviotal role of a semi-obscure JRPG/VN/Whodunnit game in the downfall of SA:

At the time (2012-ish) there was no English translation of the first Dangan Ronpa game (which came out in 2010), and it had achieved an almost mythical status amongst Tumblr weebs as the greatest held secret of Glorious Nippon. So when a bilingual SA user started doing a Screenshot LP of it, translating it himself as he went, Tumblr shit itself with excitement (because their weebism clearly didn't extend to bothering to learn any Japanese). The SA paywall was down at the time, and the page impressions for the LP went ballistic.

Someone roused Lowtax from his box wine and Ambien haze and got him temporarily coherent enough to explain to him that if he brought the paywall down, he might get more booze and pill money from people signing up. So in mid-2013 LowT drops the paywall and Tumblr goes NUTS:


At first, the Tumblrites started leeching the LP images straight from SA's servers onto Tumblr blogs. Lowtax retaliated by writing a script (or getting someone else to write a script, let's face it) that would replace any image embedded anywhere else with either Goatse or a link to an ad to buy an account. Tumblr started account-sharing to try to get round it, but they couldn't keep quiet about it and those accounts were banned en masse.

So eventually Tumblr dangerhairs started buying accounts. There were many more bans, as they would sperg out in the DA thread and elsewhere on the site, and at first the old guard found it very entertaining. But as we know here, those people are insidious and eventually took over the site, especially when they started becoming mods.

As for Dangan Ronpa, an English translation came out in early 2014.

Yes, that's true. But I'm not saying anything about that. I'm just saying that Lowtax "runs" somethingawful until he can pawn it off on someone else (Fragmaster, Ozma, FAU, whoever).

Using your metaphor, the barbarian's didn't invade SA; they just showed up and said "if you let us in we'll mod your forums" and Lowtax was like "yeah, you seem like nice upstanding people, why not?" and retreated back into the mountains while the village burned.

The image host wasn't run by Lowtax, it was LPix run by Baldurk who also runs the SA LP archive. He was remarkably pissed off because he normally didn't have to care and basically everybody else in the LP subforum hated the imports.
 
Well that explains why someone actually did something. Lowtax's problem-solving methods involve intoxicating himself until he can no longer remember what the problem is.

I think their's few things I hate more than people who prattle on about how they're ashamed of their past when they didnt do anything particulary bad, how small is your life that you think not laughing at furries makes you a reedemed figure? It's right up there with people who thumb their noses down at their 'phases' as though listening to Muse and artic monkeys is somehow smarter than Slayer , never realized their still bassically the same mercurial fad follower they always where.

You're not mature because your humour is less dark, it's just you've discovered being a self-rightious bore is more personally gratifying so its quite the opposite. I havnt seen any of them at the local political events or lift a single finger to help their fellow man.

lol, this is exactly how I feel. I gradually realized how insane these people are by attempting to have some sort of discourse with them.

e: it was also an amusing factor of watching how typical the standard leftist MO was: they would constantly drive the "acceptable discourse" level to the left, and then when they had nothing of substance to argue, would use standard leftist propaganda/attack lines (remember the "ALL TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE EVIL, ITS TIME TO BAN THEM!" threads in QCS?) to silence any possible dissent by force. In GBS, FAU would just methodically permaban anyone to the right of Pol Pot, spacing it out just enough to try and give xirself some sort of credibility or whatever, I don't know. Looking back, I have no idea why I stayed as long as I did.

It's extremely telling how valid your line of thought is when the only effective defense against any attack is to simply ban or censor all attacks against it.

Speaking for myself, who is a lefty, the extremism of the left on SA put me off. I don’t like fanatics and I don’t like extremists on either side. Simplistic, black and white thinking irritates me but it esp infuriating within the political sphere which by definition needs to be exceedingly complex and deserves nuisanced discussion.

Trying to stifle debate or win points by calling someone racist, transphobic or a Nazi, is the same as calling someone a libtard, feminazi or commie imo.

What’s annoying about SA current lefties are they are just charity cases. My left politics came out of the labor movement, SA leftists come out of disability and dole leeches. Their leader is probably applying for disability as I type this.

Their disability is being lazy head cases that don’t want to do anything unpleasant or infers with shit posting, anime and vidya. Reading the problems of E/N is becomes obvious that most productive job holding members of SA, myself included, fled long ago. It’s gimme gimme and fuck you for expecting me to earn anything because I’m mentally ill, chronic pain, troon, anxious.

They don’t function in society but expect you to take very seriously their absurd opinions on how society should function. Lazy mentally ill shut ins have important opinions on how society should conform to their whims.

I liked 3 phases posts in the bit coin thread years ago. Sad he ate a ban and never came back.

I think the connection to vidya is interesting the gamer clan feeds the social need. But doesnt really help i think on sass someone mocked a E/N goon who was basically milking NHS services saying he cant work but when it came to some mmo or what ever he was very detailed and involved.

I wonder if goons could teach eachother to code.
