A rare success story. Few manage to survive goonism and get their lives back on track.
It’s kind of strange if you look around 2011. The successful goons got banned by the NEET Crowd. Happened again around Occupy time, because god forbid a goon with their shit together suggest drawing anime, blogging about fringe politics or doing first level tech support isn’t a good path to financial freedom.

So got a question for this thread. What's the half life on the decay of something awful as a whole? I'm guessing five years at minimum

I'd argue until Lowtax dies or gets some serious shit in his life that makes it untenable and he gets forced to sell by his wife or whomever. He'll leech it to the end and then sell it way under what he could have to some self obsessed troon or shady Asian company . Both will hope they operate the same with unpaid staff that just attract the same broken late Gen-Xers and early Millennials who never moved on from 2006. At which point it will thrive again for a few months and then bottom out hard and get sold again to another user for even less and just repeat the cycle until the demographic moves on to the great beyond or their SSDI payouts start drying up

Who knows, really. Lowtax is like DarksydePhil, at the end the only thing we know about SA's financial state is that it's "really bad" according to the guy who's incidentally trying to push for more donations. Something Awful could, even in this sorry state, probably remain self sufficient for another 5+ years if it wasn't for Lowtax hanging off it like a tick.

Should we expect Something Resetful?

Personally, the way I see something awful dying off, is Lowtax being forced to give up the site and the costs of running it for the new management become high enough that it's unprofitable to keep it running for long periods of time

It'll probably just continue it's slow, agonizing death for a few more years. But there's also the possibility that LowT will get intoxicated, forget that he's pretending to be a woke progressive now, and post /tweet some wrongthink. Thereby causing what's left of his brokebrained user base and admins to ditch him.

There's a ton of those already. Whatever the LF offsite was, Something Sensitive and even Skullmund and entire corners of twitter and youtube/twitch
Hell people will just go to the remaining message boards that match what they're looking for. Nerds will go to reddit, the rest will go to one of the offsites and I bet a fair few will come here.

Yeah, but I was talking more of direct creations due to the fall of SA. This place and reddit are just separate evolutionary tracts for the internet as a whole, not really the offspring of anything the goons have done.

4chan otoh exists because Lowtax and FYAD decided they didnt want animes having too much fun in their own subforum, so they branded a bunch as pedophiles and expelled them.

Lol like anyone would buy SA.
Oh I’m sure someone would for the user data. They wouldn’t pay much though.

I just checked one of those valuation sites. Estimates almost a million for a sale price with 1k per day in ad revenue. I’m thinking 10% of that is closer to accurate.

Edit for reference it values this site at about 600k and 600 ad revenue per day. So obviously not very accurate

The SJW crowd would buy it, alone to keep it as their personal treehouse. If they'd pay well is another question but before lowT makes a monthly loss he'd sell. He'd act like he's stepping back gracefully while the people who always have ran the site are keeping it.

The more I think about it though, the more it could be that Lowtax wouldn't leave the site behind that easily. While it's true that he loathes SA and it's community, it's his only claim to ecreed and relevance. He will not let that go that easily I think.

Low-T will never sell SA unless he has absolutely no other option. This is the only way Dear Richard will ever have any sort of power, and he knows it. Sure he could have been a millionaire if he'd sold at the peak, but then he wouldn't be able to ban people from SomethingAwful.com

Maybe at the beginning he liked the power but for the past 10 years or so he's been too lazy and depressed to even enjoy that aspect of the forums. This is the same guy who was bullied into giving Shmorky a paycheck for years.

I am leaning more towards his arrested development and apathy. He wont sell because selling a business is fucking work/cut throat.

Imagine some media start up company calls and offers to buy a majority stake in his LLC, they would pour money into content creation, and upgrading the forums. Lowtax would get a editor and assignments to turn articles/video/podcast.

He would just start reeing about some stupid monkey cheese wacky zanny shit.
