There's quite a few oldgoons here, and while there's a lot of differences in opinion, my experience is that Lowtax had been largely irrelevant to the culture on the forums, even from 'old' SA. The community of posters is what made SA good before it became a troon hugbox. It was a unique environment due to the paywall and forum rules that encouraged funny shitposting. Lowtax did pin good threads occasionally, but he wasn't an active participant.

The takeover of shitty mods was pretty slow. Not a lot of us noticed at first because it didn't impact what most people were posting. It started with small things like don't post ironic racism and snowballed out of control from there. A lack of direction from the top combined with a stressful moderating environment is what allowed shitty mods to take over.

I think the real decline of SA started with the disappearance of Helldump. It was circle jerky, but the threads making fun of forums users were great. Getting rid of HD started a trend of "we can't possibly make fun of certain things, it's too mean." Making fun of dumb shit was the original spirit of the website.

One of the funniest threads I ever read was the one about Kevin beetface the dollfucker who used to steal mannequins from behind Macy's because he couldn't afford a Realdoll. He was married to a paraplegic woman because she was "like a doll" and couldn't move. He mooched off her SSDI and stayed in her room at an assisted living facility, had a blog where he'd post pictures of his mannequins and plushy fuck dolls. At some point he found the thread and registered, and some other dollfucker came in defending him. Lowtax posted emails between him and the 2nd dollfucker.

Comparing how funny that shit was to the bullshit that's going on there now is fucking depressing.

A lot of you seem to think that SA becoming 'softer' or more 'social justicey' was what sucked the funny out, but you're outright wrong. Just look at this shit. This was (apparently) a well-respected funnyman from SA. This isn't just some random sped who got dredged up and landed here, this is a name from SA. When he came over, all the goon trash here seemed to immediately know who he was and seemed to have a level of respect and admiration for his funnymanning ; and this is what he brings. Goons absolutely "pozloaded my negholep" on that one. Someone contacted Kevin Havens' brother and bought him an account, pictures of his sister were posted, people compiled a document about him and sent it to APS in order to have him removed as his girlfriend's carer.

Contacting people associated with "legendary" threads and buying them accounts to come spill the dirt was SOP on SA back in the day so all of the claims that it was never allowed are bullshit. Internet detectivery is how the identity of zombaby's daddy was discovered.
