From what I understand, IQ is not really a number that shows how "smart" a person is; rather, it is indicative of their capacity to learn.

Yeah. It's correlated to intelligence but it isn't directly connected to it. It presents you with a lot of logic puzzles and just judges you based on your ability to solve them or how quickly you can solve them. If you think an IQ test is indicative of whether or not you should respect a person, however, you're most likely an idiot on top of being a bad person in general.

The mantra I like to live by is that if you need to tell people that you're smart, you're probably not. Actions speak much louder than words, and if you need to brag about your intelligence to people, you're also probably not that smart since you are actively proving you lack the intelligence to be self aware and conscious of what you're saying. What do you even gain by claiming somebody isn't as smart as you, besides enemies and a fleeting sense of validity? For goodness sake, just treat other people like people.

Case in point with how it doesn't matter how clever you think you are, you still look like an idiot if you have zero social skills:

Also I'm loving the typos in a lot of these images. These people will, in the same sentence, espouse their intellectualism while making a really obvious mistake that's easily noticed and corrected. I'm not perfect either, but I don't go around with a god complex based entirely off of my precious IQ points.

Yep. Simple errors in spelling made by people who bray about how intelligent they are make me chortle.

  • Thesaurus abuse
  • Pseudo-intellectualism
  • Bad philosophy
The alt right?

How could that work? Most IQ tests are just written quizes.

I blame too much coddling of kids in school. Kids these days are always being told how smart they are, and now they're grown up and acting like they know shit.

:powerlevel:I had that shit in high school, and my response was to be a lazy piece of shit. They still were saying I was so smart and shit, but fuck them, I get to determine whether I am a big brained faggot or not.:powerlevel:

When someone boasts about how smart they are, it produces one of two outcomes:

1. They successfully intimidate their audience, or

2. They come across as a jerk.

Both of these outcomes result in the 'smart' person alienating everyone around them. Considering how misanthropic they seem to be, maybe that's what they're going for? :optimistic:

Finally these little brats got a thread hell I knew a guy like this in high school he got a broken nose

The people in the images usually didn't create the meme. Someone just found the most autistic looking fuck they could find and put their words or someone else's words on it.

In this case the guy could have saved two days and looked it up on Wikipedia. Algorithms actually can't generate random numbers. Hence, most commonly used "random number generators," like Mersenne Twister, are actually pseudo-random number generators or PRNGs. They're random for all practical purposes, though, as without the seed, the future results can't be predicted from previous output.

"The definition of genius is taking the complex and making it simple." ~ Albert Einstein

I fucking hate tools like this who abuse the thesaurus in an effort to seem "smart." The purpose of language is communication. Being able to communicate your thoughts effectively is far more important than vomiting out a bunch of long, "complicated" words. Also, synonyms don’t actually mean the exact same thing as the original word, so his "large vocabulary" sentence doesn't make sense.

My favorite quote from such a person: “I disagree with your use of the word ‘dynamite’. I would have said ‘trinitrotoluine’.”

And he was being dead fucking serious.

As someone who actually skipped multiple early grades as a kid, and even had the opportunity to skip one more (My mom insisted against teacher's advice that I don't skip too much, so I can learn to socialize), I think those people are overcompensating assholes.

One thing I had to learn the hard way is that the more humble, respectful and approachable you are, the more well-liked you become, and the closer you get to attaining your goals. So whatever your motivations in life may be, they are just far, far easier to achieve with people on your side rather than against you.

This wasn't easy to learn at all, I was almost completely friendless for over 2 years of my early school days until I started getting off my high horse and working to befriend actual people. Thankfully, a lot of those friendships are still alive today.

Now that this thread has gotten rolling, it's time to introduce the patron saint of Smart Guys: Neil deGrasse Tyson. To be fair, he's an astrophysicist so he is actually smart, but he's also a complete tool.

The best part about this isn't just Neil himself. It's how this crowd will lap up anything as long as there's a picture of his face next to it.

This one apparently got passed around a few years ago and it's a complete fabrication. I think there was another one with a Hitler quote, but I can't find it right now.

Although the quote naturally applies to his fanbase flawlessly.

There's nothing like being pedantic and wrong. Dynamite is not TNT. Its active ingredient is nitroglycerine but it has other ingredients. TNT is an entirely different explosive.
