What I like about Smart Guys is how quickly they go from a simple nitpick to Deep Thoughts level stuff just to look smart. For example, this conversation. With that in mind though, the fact that they think talking like a Victorian Era Brit instead of a normal person kind of has the opposite effect here.

Dumbfuck used the wrong too. It should be "I'm far too intelligent" but he wrote "Far to intelligent"
Unless far is supposed to stand for "Far too stupid" Then technically he's probably right, but that's a pretty wide range.

Related, isn't it amazing how "smart" people can't get promoted at even the most menial jobs? Must be a grand conspiracy of some kind, not that they have shit personalities, toxic egos, and suffer from Dunning-Kruger effect, all at once, in one neat package!
The number of self-professed "smarts" who are still languishing in entry-level occupations after a decade as the "stupids" go blowing by them after a few months can only be explained by management being rife with window-lickers too obsessed with pop culture to know genius when they see it!
I love to ask those kinds of people "If you're so smart, how come you can't figure out how to fake being stupid for long enough to get a few promotions and then kick out the dummies under you? Seems like the kind of plan a truly smart person could come up with and carry out........"

It's because a lot of "smart" people hold their incredible intelligence to be self evident. Usually their criteria for what makes a person "smart" include random selections of literature and art that some other "smart" people said make you smart if you like it. There's also some Dunning-Kruger, at least in the cases where the person actually is intelligent and competent, but can't explain any of that to a "normal" person.
But then, most "smart" people are just members of some social group or another that has awarded themselves the title of "smart" because they consume certain media, agree with certain idea, etc. And a person with an inflated sense of their own intelligence who doesn't actually bring anything extra to the table are exactly the miserable jackasses who will be working retail their whole lives for their "stupid" bosses.

Knowing facts doesn't make you smart. Anyone with functional long-term memory can do that. It's knowing how to apply them that makes you smart.

Reminds me of this one user on deviantart way back who claims he was 12 years old. I don't know if he was telling the truth (he did look youngish) but my God was he an insufferable prick who thinks he's better than everyone else just because he read a bunch of big boy books.

I just found this thread and wow, I really really love pseudo-intellectual/"intelligence" signalling stuff on the internet. I'll try not to post things which have already been posted, but I have a friend who runs a page dedicated to this stuff on facebook so I have a decent amount of this kind of content saved.
Probably my favorite kind (outside the usual politics stuff) of intelligence signalling is when people say they "didn't study" for an exam and then got a B on it or something (with the implication being that, had they studied, they would've gotten the highest grade in the class) to try to turn their laziness into a posturing mechanism. Generally people outgrow this kind of thing in middle school but apparently some people miss the boat.
Not sure if you guys have seen this or not but here's an eternal classic.
I don't know why you're trying to bother reasoning with TJ, he's demonstrated a willful divorce from reality time and time again. Whenever someone argues with him, they simply feed more coals to his delusions. I'm not saying I disagree with you, I'm just saying that interacting with him in any meaningful way is almost definitely wasted effort.
Getting back on topic, how do you guys feel about "phone bad," "millennials BAD," "TECHNOLOGY BAD!!!" baby boomer political cartoons?

Well people have to be really exceptional if they believe a caricature of certain aspects of a changing society (Darn Millenials!) is a total representation of the truth, and totally not a partial reflection of their own various failings. I mean it's a shit-show all around but the contempt boomers can have for their own creations really makes me laugh, more so the fact they seem to believe that the world changing is somehow the greatest sign of disrespect that the 'youth of today' could possibly show.

Well no, that's just the thing! A lot of people aren't aware, but the whole "tide pod = FORBIDDEN SNACK" joke started as a trend on ironic meme pages on Facebook. Why, you might ask? Well, because some news article released a year ago talked about a study which found that, as a demographic, senior citizens consumed more Tide Pods annually than infants did (due to dementia). "Millennials" doing their "Tide Pod Challenge" videos came in the aftermath of the joke, and I guess most old people don't see the irony in making fun of kids who, originally, were making fun of them.
Do you guys like intelligence-signalling webcomics?

If we're going on the tangent of "millenials r dum", what I find most annoying about it is that millenials are so ill-defined. They're lazy AND they work too much. They're snobby AND they don't know quality. They're addicted to technology AND they like doing things the hard way.
