I remember seeing that post floating around Tumblr claiming that if Mermaids were real, they would be fat because biology or something. You know, completely ignoring that mermaids are fictional characters who's mere existence already contradict actual biology. I mean, if you wanna imagine all mermaids as fat, then whatever. But what was obnoxious about that particular Tumblr post was that it seem to imply that if you disagree, then you're a misogynistic dudebro or whatever. Insert as much SJW buzzwords as you like.

Although if I had to say something nice about that piece, I will say I like the colors. Idk dark tan skin with pastel hair looks nice. Everything else is horrendous though.

Also, not only is that clearly not the body type of someone who is constantly physically active, but others have pointed out that human fat actually does jack shit for insulation in the water. If you want to make your own inspirational fat character, the least you can do is make them vaguely plausible.

Looking at the mermaid, I will only ask what hasn't been already been asked: What is with the shape of the head? It looks like a head one would find on an alien. It also looks like said mermaid also lacks a chin.

I'd say I actually like the flipper-hands given that they kinda fit a marine creature but I don't think that's intentional.

Well according to them, the world already caters to those eeeeeevil mens and those eeeeeeevil mens are never mocked or shamed for being fat, despite them and the rest of society doing exactly that on a constant basis.

Never seen a tumblrina draw a fat man unless it was a character who's already fat or for some fetish shit. The most I've seen is them making men a little chubby or flabby, but nowhere as fat as they like women.

Heck, I swear I've even seen them slim down some male characters who are fat in canon (which actually kinda pisses me off since I'm kinda anal about people prettying up characters who aren't attractive in canon, but that neither hear nor there).

Usually when I see they design or redesign male characters they usually look like the skinny nerd or a hipster.
Also, all that body fat on those manatees are beneficial to them, unlike those tumblrinas

Basically the problem with the double standard is that superheroine designs are less about looking like the perfect powerhouse and more about looking like the perfect sex toy. To the extent it’s hard to take them seriously and people spend no small amount of time pondering the hazardous of the outfits.
