Why does Tumblr have an obsession with vitiligo?

The people that don't care list their characters sexualities/genders as bullpoints. You try to ask them about their personality, you can't get anything out of them. I've literally seen asks on Tumblr in which people asked what their personality was like, and they couldn't give you a straight answer unless it was some poorly-drawn "quirky" scenario. You don't like the character? You're XXXphobic and deserve to be shamed.

The artist will complain if you misgender them even if they present themselves as entirely as feminine or masculine when stating a complete contradictory gender. You're expected to know what the character is by the artist's fucked up logic even when they clearly are masculine or feminine. The artist also doesn't think to include a backstory for their characters. So how they became the way they are isn't clearly defined leading to confusion on the viewers part.

Their characters fail because the artist failed to separate themselves from their work and be humbled. They can't make a decent LGBT+ character because to them, it's an insult if you don't like it and instead of learning to improve, they can just shout at how XXXphobic you are.

The people that DO care, honest-to-god, struggle in making a LGBT character. Because they understand that if they push a character's sexuality wayyyy too much it'll be annoying as shit. If it's not relevant to the story, it's going to come off as forced. And the character has to be likable or else they'll be called ___phobic and panned if they aren't.

HOWEVER,they understand the character is not them. They understand that other sexualities and transitioning is still not accepted by the majority and that they either have to suffer popularity because of that or tone it down a bit to appeal to a majority. They also understand how colors work and that people in the LGBT normally don't look for attention and want to be NORMAL (or at least as normal as you can be).

What am I getting at here?

They, for the most part, understand that a character needs to be well-rounded. No one looks at a character who's black or gay and thinks because it's just that trait that makes them important and it's the only reason to care. It's bullshit. You make a relatable character, anyone will love them. And that shallow thinking is why these artists will NEVER have a good LGBT character.

Honestly, what I think bothers me more though is when people do put in the effort to make well-written, realistic LGBT characters, it’s the tumblr fandom that ruins it.
I’ll use a couple examples.
Krem from Dragon Age is a transgender man. He’s a very normal guy, funny, and a side character that stays with you the whole game (as long as you don’t let him be killed). A lot of people have just completely reduced him to “transgender.” The rest of him doesn’t even matter.
Tracer from Overwatch is a lesbian. A lot of people on tumblr have turned her entire personality into “energetic lesbian who is a lesbian and very gay.”
Sometimes, even characters who aren’t canonically LGBT, but are widely seen in fanon as LGBT (to the point where people just believe it’s canon) get this treatment too. Lance from Voltron is about as straight as you can get, but popular fanon is that he’s bisexual. Despite the fact that he’s a flirty straight guy with a lot of personality and actual character development, tumblr has reduced his personality to “bisexual and Cuban and dating Keith and super bi.”

It’s just really depressing to see actually well-written characters, especially ones who are actually LGBT, reduced to just being LGBT. Like they can’t write LGBT people as actual people? Yeah it bothers me. But then they take LGBT characters written like actual people and treat them like how they do their shitty OCs... I shouldn’t be surprised, but it’s just honestly depressing to see. This is the same group that cries they want representation, and well-written representation at that. But when they actually get it, it’s very clear they just want a toy to use to fuel their gay/trans fetish.
 
Makes you wonder why they don't latch on to hentai doujin or games. If they look hard enough there are LGBT fetish games, even lesbienne NTR that they could scratch it to instead of wanting Incredibles 2 to be NTR.

I saw people make jokes about how D.Va is tranny Shinji Ikari because they both use mechas (which isn't that good of a joke to begin with) so of course people on Tumblr would take it seriously.

Don't we have a cow who LARPs IRL as Social-Justicized versions of some really "offensive" characters from Fallout (or Bioshock / something similar) with their partner to "cope"? I remember finding it really weird because the one character she latched onto wasn't an attractive young boii like usual, some gross dude with a curly mustache.

If that's the case. How the fuck is that white-washing? As far as I know Pearl is as white as a daisy. Why is it to these people that the first thing to associate with these characters are their races? Isn't that kind of racist? So regular people are secretly racist for not seeing a character as their race, but these people totally AREN'T racist because they see a character for their....race? What?

I'm not too familiar with Fallout, but I can tell you the Dragon Age fandom is awful but varied throughout tumblr.

Most of the discourse is race-related, not sexuality-related. Dorian has like 2 things like that on tumblr, but he mostly escapes unbutchered.
1. A lot of people love him, but there is a minority of people who hate him because he can defend slavery in Tevinter to your elven character.
2. A lot of trenders on tumblr are obsessed with him, a homosexual man who's story arc is heavily focused on this, eating trans man pussy. Because "trans men are real men and if you wouldn't eat a trans man's pussy cause ur gay ur a transphobe!"

The characters that get it the worst are Morrigan, Alistair, Fenris, and Sera, along with some minor characters. On the flip side, tumblr despises characters like Cullen and Aveline.
Morrigan, Alistair, and Sera all get racebent. Tumblr claims it's racist and whitewashing for Morrigan to be white because she lives in the Wilds and she's part Chasind. They also claim she's a lesbian because she has a dislike for men, even though she's canonically heterosexual. Sera should be dark/black because of her whole "rebel/fuck the system" stuff, cause that's not racist at all. Alistair... is a bit more complicated.

Alistair is a character people try to claim is canonically "brown". They claim it's because he has a darker skin tone than his half brother and because they firmly believe his mother is dark skinned. They believe the books his mother is originally in prove that she's dark skinned because of some... very unclear descriptions, when another description directly contradicts it. She also appears in Inquisition being very clearly white, but people claim she was whitewashed.
What they believes proves Fiona is dark skinned: "Fiona snorted indignantly. It was an unladylike thing to do, she knew, but her patience was rapidly running thin. The Enchanter who had trained her had been an elegant woman with perfect manners and porcelain skin, and she sighed laboriously every time Fiona had so much as twitched an eyebrow."
Meanwhile, her description at the end of the same book: "Her black hair was slightly longer, and her pale skin looked reddened, as if she had been spending a great deal of time in the sun."
The counterargument is "oh but she was under a lot of stress at the time" and sure, she was, but you don't think they would describe it differently if she was unnaturally pale?
They also claim that because Alistair had darker skin in his appearances in his first two games and became much paler in the next two games, it was whitewashing. Even though he clearly spent more time in the sun in the first game then in the next two (which makes more sense if you follow the canon path and make him king). Not to mention he's slowly dying from the blight inside of him, meaning it also makes sense for him to be more pale.

Fenris gets it bad in both the race drama and the lgbt drama. A lot of people believe Fenris is dark skinned when his exact skin tone is unclear in the game and his sister is white. A lot of people also believe Fenris is transgender (ftm) and get angry when people disagree.

You can explain Alistair looking darker in the first game because it had terrible lighting. The skin tone you picked in the character creator would often look nothing like what you look like when you actually play the game or in cutscenes.

The future games allowed you to see what you look like in different lighting.

krem is a really well researched and respectful transgender character too, and you can ask about his past and why/how he realised he was transgender, and has an interesting past with his boss, iron bull. but apparently he's not good enough? wild.
