This thread is for the SiN franchise of games and movies (in reality there's only 1 movie but you get the point), and maybe other stuff as well that I forgot about. I'll start first: why there was never released SiN game post SiN Episodes: Emergence? Specifically why no fans made the rest of the episodes themselves if only 1 episode out of the 9 was released? Why in general SiN episodes was really mediocre (only 3 weapons ffs) but at the same time really good? I just got so many questions

- Money. Making games is expensive.
- Lack of relevance. Sin is niche these days. Good luck getting a Publisher and Studio to go for it.
- A product of a different era. Today's mainstream media moralfags about hot chicks in scantily clothing unless they're tranny-looking uggos or men. A lot of today's devs are also trannies and/or trannylovers who hate the 00s aesthetics or regret working on games that promoted that kind of content.
- Lack of interest even from fans. Emergence/Episode 1 barely made money on release and there's no real large demand for it.

Specifically why no fans made the rest of the episodes themselves
Making games is hard, and most fan projects take years if not decades to make a competent release on par with a funded AAA equivalent.
Also whoever owns the IP can just come and sue the pants off you and/or make a legal nightmare for you.

Sin overall was mediocre. It's a cool idea but it's been done better by other games.
It can be a great game for you on a personal level, but objectively, there's nothing here Half-Life, Unreal, Deus-Ex, and other Sin contemporaries didn't do many times better.

True, it's not remotely as popular as other good games like skyrim (which is preety niche where I live, but it used to be extremely popular in the US at least I think.

I agree with you, but at the same time, doesn't fan service distract from the actual plot/lore/gameplay tho? I think it's well done in SiN because the female villain is good due to her sex appeal but like why does Jessica need that lol. And yeah I agree, fuck troons and shit, like if I have a female character I want her to look like an actual woman, preferably good looking just not full on porn look. Also at least had plain sex appeal not the weird degenerate shit of nowdays

By January 27, 2007 the game has already sold 150,000 copies. I would say that's definitely more successful than a lot of games and the number has probably already increased since then especially because of SiN gold and SiN reloaded (even though reloaded wasn't released nor did it finish development but we do know they started though and we even saw some of their progress)

True but wasn't dues ex immersive sim rather than just plain shooter? I never played it though so I don't know but I was mid way through system shock remake which is an immsim

I forgot to ask but were there any major games that were released beforehand digitally apart from the episodes of SiN? Like I'm just surprised that episodes was released from day one on steam despite releasing in mid 2006
 
Sin got clowned on pretty hard for being extremely buggy release. The patches to fix it up were a large download for the time and not everyone had Internet access. So many people had to wait for them to be distributed with the cover CD of a PC gaming magazine. At the time there was an expectation games should be released relatively bug free and playable out of the box. I'm sure many gamers at the time never bothered to go hunt down patches unless they were playing online. Half-Life coming out shortly afterwards massively overshadowed Sin. While I thought the interactivity was pretty cool in Sin, HL was just a much more polished and well executed game.

With Sin Emergence, it just seemed like they were trying to copy the HL formula too much. It's been many years since I played it, but I recall Blade being mute in Emergence?

I have been itching to play the first game again and have been waiting on Sin Reloaded for too long now. Sin Gold doesn't support ultrawide resolutions, but I came across a reverse engineered source port, Dominatrix: https://github.com/rohit-n/dominatrix

It has ultrawide support, Linux support and a bunch of other QoL features. Might give it a go soon.
 
All I remember of SiN is that you needed to rename the executable to trick drivers into thinking it was Quake 3 Arena to make it work because too many OpenGL extensions makes for a buffer overflow (driver developers put in the effort to keep a lot of games working but didn't bother with SiN). I should probably go play it again some time.
 
It still pisses me off the former CEO of Ritual purchased them with his new company MumboJumbo, just so he could kill SiN off and force them to make toddler games.

SiN episodes following the awful episodic game fad at the time did it no favors, it's just a shittier version of early access without the community feedback support.

Okay, started playing the original game using Dominatrix and so far running quite well, but probably not polished as a typical Nightdive port. The max FPS that can be set in the menus at only 120 FPS and had to use the console to set it to 240 FPS, and the input line at the terminals is cut off. Not huge issues.

The cheesy Mancini transformation cutscene is making me feel very nostalgic:
 
By not putting DRM in games cuz CDPR are the creators of GOG which has DRMless games
Sorry to derail the thread, but what are you yapping about? CP2077 *is* DRM free on PC. Apart from the offline GOG installer, for Steam and Epic versions you can simply copy the directory over to another computer and without the store launcher installed. There's literally no copy protection on it!

So the only DRM is for the console versions of the game, which they can't opt-out of. But excluding the console market seems pretty crazy from a financial point of view.

I wasn't talking about Cyberpunk tho, I was talking about GOG games in general
 
Was wondering what is NightDive’s next project. Hopefully we get a Wolf3D remaster drop in August.
Honestly, I hope we don't. Wolf 3D was amazing when it was released, but in retrospect the first person perspective, smooth graphics and violence were what made it amazing. Underneath that veneer it's a pretty basic 2D game. It seems like a waste of resources remastering what's there. To make it worth playing would require remaking it into a completely new game.
