Shoplifting Tumblrinas

I work at a mall with a lot of shop lifters, these blogs are fueling me to work extra hard to catch them tonight. Not justifying it but younger shoplifters bother me less than the older ones because they're hopefully going to grow out of it. I have women come in with their children to steal, it's awful.
 
uh I just wanted to say, about the idea that the cost of shoplifting falls mainly on the workers, i.e. the "average Joe" ... well that's really only how it would work at some kind of collective, like a co-op retailer at a college, or a shop in a communist country. In a capitalist system the earnings belong to the owner. Wages for the workers go according to the supply and demand for that kind of labor. Of course everything that affects the owner's bottom line affects workers on the margin, like, whether the owner will feel incentivized to hire or fire employees. Workers may be more economically exposed in that they are poor and replaceable, but in dollar terms the owner is "hurt" more than the worker. That is what these people are getting at when they shoplift to oppose capitalism.

It may be stupid or wrong, but it is logically valid. If you think the money in the register is mostly for the workers and not the shareholders, creditors, management, and landlord (i.e. capitalists) then you either live in Cuba or North Korea, or you are really missing the point of capitalism.

ok, that said, I'm looking forward to the FBI ruining these people.

There is logic to that, like there is logic to killing 1 million people to save one important person. I'm not sure those guys or the chap who lost his job 'cause someone lifted mascara on his shift will listen to it.

Taking that logic to extreme, I can say that the robber barons who own those shops have salaries so big those ~1000 dollars a day is a drop in the ocean for them, so shoplifting doesn't even sting them.

Smarter lifters who operate in packs use this to their advantage. Send in a black guy to walk around looking sketchy until he picks up the LP, or actually create a scene, while the nondescript white guy steals everything in sight.

You have to admit, though, doing a "roleplay, tee hee!" blog that is all about giving the shittiest possible made-up shoplifting tips to Tumblr has hilarious possible consequences. "Stuff your mouth with lipsticks! Just don't talk to anyone and mime that you got stung by a bee in the mouth if anyone asks!"
 
I wonder how many of these people are the ones that break down and cry when security catches them and I wonder how many are still of the age where parents would be called if they got caught. I'm also sure it doesn't count as saving money if you had no plans to buy the stolen items in question. In the end I want to see the new system that would arise from an epidemic of shoplifting because I imagine it wouldn't be the paradise the lifters want.

It doesn't matter how many times you tell these people that stealing from a big business can be just as bad as stealing from a small one (because worker wages can get cut and people might even lose their jobs if too much stuff is stolen during their shifts), they'll just brush it off and ignore you.

And this is why I watch white teenage girls like a fucking hawk and leave black people generally alone. And I've never been wrong.

Idk if someone has already brought this up, but it's stupid for them to say "money saved" whenever they do these hauls. It'd be one thing if they were stealing necessities that they would otherwise have to pay for to survive , but all they steal is makeup from department stores and clothes and junk.

...granted, cops handcuffs are even more of a Tool of The Kyriarchy than D'n'D ever was. Probably triggers their headmates as well.

A thousand years ago I got robbed. One of the things that was stolen was a bootleg DVD set of a robot cartoon centered around people stealing robots. I still chuckle about that, but I don't think tumblrspeds have enough of a sense of humor if their pile of shoplifted crap got stolen.

But yeah, these people try to pass off petty crime as something that is noble. It's like illegalism for pretentious overweight teenagers.
 
I had some friends in high school that did this shit - it was before tumblr but they had the same "fuck the system" ideology about it. They thought that Bath and Body Works charging $12 for body wash was a worse crime than their shoplifting.

The one who was worst about it would walk out of stores carrying things in plain sight, and if she got stopped she'd act embarrassed and start apologizing profusely and pretend like it was a mistake and she just forgot she was still carrying something. It actually worked most of the time for some idiotic reason. A different friend eventually got caught stealing from Yankee Candle.

Of course these were all white teenage girls.
