That gives him an out. He can just be dumb.
I suspect there's some underlying personality disorder combined with his natural stupidity. Phrases like "I didn't know that", "I was wrong", and "I misunderstood" seem to be foreign phrases to him. There's the Dunning-Krueger Effect, there's being stupid, and then there's whatever the hell Shane has.
When you get right down to it, it's pretty likely that the dude is compensating for a major inferiority complex. No rational person would go through the ringer as many times as Shane has over something that doesn't even directly concern him. The man is grappling with some major insecurities about his lot in life. He has a desperate need for validation and attention, which can be shown in a number of his behaviors:
- His bragging about his wife's blowjobs (and trying to brag to Kiwis in general)
- The fact that he married a woman twenty years his junior
- His commentary about his physique and his subsequent sensitivity to being called fat
- His desperation to find questionable or inapplicable sources of information that "proves" he's right (e.g. citing things happening in Britian)
- His complete inability to internalize any information that contradicts what he thinks.
He's likely the sort of person that's never actually won an argument in his entire life, and has only succeeded through implementing the strategy of wearing a person down into submission. In this regard, Shane is truly exceptional, and I suspect that he may still be tweeting about how he was right all along because Sri Lankan Admiralty Law says so, long after everyone else, including Vic, Monica, Jamie, and co., have buried it.
Get help, Shane. You're putting your mid-life crisis on full display in front of everyone, and it's deeply, deeply embarrassing.
