I’ve been sewing these little linen gift bags recently for mothers days presents I think they look pretty good. They’re a modified / sized down version of linen drawstring bags I made for buying bread and bulk items and stuff at the supermarket. You can put jewelry or soap or anything small in them.

Just finished a quilt for my youngest sister's wedding gift. She recently got into collecting heirloom quilts from family members, so it felt like the perfect gift. I hope she gets into quilting too, or at least the history and cultural significance of it, so I finally have someone to sperg with about it lol.

Its a surprise, so I worked with her mom to pick the pattern and colors. She likes traditional vibes, so I wanted to create something cozy and patchworky. I used the Same Sky pattern by Modernly Morgan. I made the bed size. It's a very easy and comprehensive pattern, in my opinion. I was stoked to find the perfect vintage bed sheet while thrifting for the backing. I used scraps from the top pattern to make the binding. All four corners on the back have a piece of the lacey top decoration from the bedsheet; one of the corners has my name and date on it, and another has a congratulatory message with my sister and her husband-to-be's names and their wedding date. Won't show names for reasons :)

It's really good work. Is that flower border machine stitched? I know the big quilting machines can do some really complex stitch patterns but it's really awesome.

It is! I splurged on a Bernina 590, and it is a fantastic machine. The sewing shop I bought it from didn't have the actual 570 they were trying to sell me on, so I upgraded a little bit and they threw on the embroidery module for free, which was cool. I am extremely novice to sewing though, and I have been very slowly exploring the bajillions of stitch options the machine already comes with. I've had fun using preloaded decorative stitches for borders and binding. I still hand embroider everything though, I'll be honest; I'm a bit intimidated by the extra bells and whistles, and I'm afraid I'll make some sort of catastrophic mistake somehow lol. It was an expensive machine 😭

You’ll be fine so long as you read the owner’s manual and take it easy to start. That’s some wisdom I learned a long time ago in the world of guns and it applies to nearly anything mechanical.

Berninas are what I consider the Cadillac of sewing machines. I'm drooling with envy right now.
And your quilt is GORGEOUS.

Thank you very much! I feel spoiled with it, but my husband is the type where if he's going to do something, he's going to do it the best way possible, with the best tools/resources he can afford, so he had a lot of influence on the decision. I'm usually the 'I can make do with tools I made from trash' type lol, I think that's where the fear of messing up something very nice comes from. It feels safer to be a beginner if it wasn't too fancy to begin with! I started learning to sew and quilt by hand first, but after taking months to finish one quilt, I think he got tired of waiting for a quilt he was promised the year before lol.

I understand completely. I know how to use sewing machines and often prefer to just hand-stitch my stuff anyway, idk, I find it soothing because autism. My mom yelled at me when she figured out all four of the curtains in my NYC apartment had been made by hand ("STAN, you stitched these by hand?!" "Ummm... I did some of the seasonal ones on the machine!!")

PS here’s the curtains I made way back when, I gave away the wine red ones I used to have in my living room to a neighborhood friend who needed curtains. You can kinda tell from the top seam they were done by hand for the blue panels the yellow one is good though
