I'm not even sure how Comix Zone would work as a movie. The main gimmick in the Genesis game is the ability to move between "comic book panels", something I don't see translating well to live action, but, without the comic book panel framing, the world within the comic is a fairly generic post-apocalyptic future dystopia.

Comix Zone is also a property with more or less zero brand awareness outside of the niche of people who still enjoy playing 16-bit games.

Ulala fat black tranny incoming. "Best" case scenario she's a racially ambiguous independent womyn in a burqa. No way they can do Space Channel 5 right these days outside of maybe a port.

I'm surprised they chose Comix Zone from Sega's lineup for a film though. You'd think they'd want to keep going with furry animals and just do a Super Monkey Ball movie. It would be the safest, but I guess they want to branch out.

the time for a Space Channel 5 movie was a lowbudget JP CG/live action pile with Deee-Lite as part of an out of court settlement shortly after the first game, with special guest Space Michael as Space Michael

Hyenas just looks like every other generic Battle Royale live-service shooter that I have zero interest in ever playing except with Sega merchandise as collectables. Why should I even care about virtual merchandise? I can get as many pictures of Sonic the Hedgehog as I want for free off the Internet, where there are already way too many pictures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

I wouldn't bet on any of those films ever seeing the light of day. People are being dumb because the sonic film was a success but they've already forgotten that SEGA had similar announcements for films of Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Crazy Taxi, Rent a Hero, Phantasy Star: Mota Restored and dozens of others

I mean, they came out after the DC was dead, buried and being eaten up by worms.
Do you think it would be possible to decompile Lego Star Wars and make a Dreamcast port?
Ask GameHut/CodingSecrets on youtube and probably twitter, he made the game and might take a stab at it or pontificate about it. He even tried to make a PUBG style game into a Megadrive game some time ago.

To me GTA3 was the thing that really finished off the DC.

I know exactly jack and shit about serious under-the-hood programming stuff, but it certainly seems more plausible than doing GTA3.
iirc the stages were mostly in-line with what you'd see in Super Magnetic Neo or the DC Sonics

A Nixon mask. That's so relevant! A president that died in the 90s as a mask! Jeez, don't you have any Tor Johnson masks to use? The kids all love Tor too!
I'd put money on this game being based in the 80s so they can excuse all out of touch references. Don't hope they actually stick to the theme though because it's gonna be a cyberpunk 80s made in 2022.

Cyberpunk as a whole sort of loses its purpose when you already live in a corporate ruled always online clownworld.

I'd assume with enough work most PS2 games could run on Dreamcast, they weren't far apart in terms of power from what I can tell. I'm sure there's exceptions like particularly big games or ones programmed in such a way that they rely on particularities inherent to the PS2.

I actually got to witness Sega's consoles. The genesis was one of the first consoles I got to own. I missed out on the Dreamcast since I was more invested in the PS2. Still. The game library that Sega had to offer that weren't on the Super Nintendo or that wasn't Sonic the hedgehog was something to behold in a gaming era. Won't get that kind of experience again.

I missed out on both the Dreamcast and Sega CD (also Master System if that counts I guess), but had the Genesis, 32X, and Saturn. The Genesis was basically my childhood, and I only got the 32X for Knuckles Chaotix but had plans on getting more shit for it had it not been canceled. The Saturn however was fun as fuck, even it's CD player UI with it's multiple settings and boppin cubes in space background. Pitch shifting some CDs made them sound better than their original versions. But obviously the best part of the Saturn were the games.

I had a Genesis growing up. Don’t like it as much as the SNES but had a lot of fun with it. Ristar is still one of my favorite platformers from back in the day. Toejam and Earl was a neat little rougelike. Phantasy Star is a solid RPG series.

Sonic was just ok to me. I had Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles but I never really got into them that much. My big bragging right was beating the Genesis version of The Lion King (notoriously unfairly difficult game) as a kid. Genesis version of Aladdin was also so much better than the SNES version

RIP, Reiko Kodama. Thank you for making the light of SEGA burn that much brighter.
