Well the cuts are laying in already, it looks like. The only candidates who currently qualify for the September debates are:
Joe Biden
Cory Booker
Pete Bootygig
Kamala Harris
Robert O'Rourke (How?)
Bernie Sanders
Elizabeth Warren
It's possible that Yang, Castro, and Klobachwhatever could qualify by then too, but currently they don't.

Everyone else is going to need 130,000 unique donors and register at least 2% support in four polls. The deadline for these requirements is August 28th, and also again how the fuck is Robert still in the race he's at 0%.

Gabby got cut. Literally the only candidate who could conceivably beat Trump.

Its rigged. Gonna be between Biden and Warren in the end as the left has gone full exceptional individual and only knows how to lose.
You really think, after Kamala Harris has been given carte blanche to pillory the senior citizen standing next to her in two successive debates now, that Warren is the one who's going to be the final candidate opposing him? Warren looks genuine compared to the scripted takes Harris has been delivering.

Where do you guys look up polls? I'm looking here and O'Rourke seems to have reached the 2% requirement in a few national polls, but then again, so did Yang. I count like six national polls where Yang has 2% or more, but the NYT article says he's only got three out of four required. Do some polls simply not count? Who picks the ones that do?

The DNC picks what polls count and what polls have obviously been hacked by the Russians. The DNC will play kingmaker, or more accurately, pick which person gets to get obliterated by the Don.

Is Beto the designated nice guy loser that gets in to every debate to make everyone else look good? He's been even less interesting than he was facing Cruz.

I hope Yang makes it, because as exceptional as UBI is, at least it isn't the same endless droning that the rest of them have as a platform. Same goes for "Dark Psychic" Williamson. At least she's funny.

She was the only one I would have voted for. I swear the left is full of republicans who have gone deep under cover to make sure no democrat is ever elected again. They cant possibly believe Warren or Harris will win against trump. Harris especially after Gabbard murdered her live for the whole country to see.

How do I cast a vote for nobody winning this debate? Being the most sensible lunatic isn't a win in my book.
Republicans obviously aren't much better than this, but at least they know how to move on from 2008 and 2012 talking points. If I have to choose between Occupy Wall Street politics, or the Space Force and Beaner Wall, I'm going to pick Space Force and Beaner Wall.

The only rule that matters anyways is that the DNC can just choose whoever they want, and they generally do that based on who's going to "pay off" in the long run, not whoever the polls actually favour. The polls could be 100% for Candidate A and 5% for Candidate B, but when they all meet behind closed doors to decide who to go with (IE: Who's paid / stands to pay them the most) then the polls mean neither jack nor shit. It's not always monetarily either, it could be a "pay-off" in terms of their ability to pass legislation or push agendas forward.

Hillary may be a nasty piece of work but she can wrangle up some unbelievable payouts for people on her team, and she has a track record of at least pushing bills through, however flimsy it might be. Bernie can't even be arsed to pay his own staff the "livable wage" that he touts and despite being in politics for longer than almost anyone here has been alive: Try and list his political accomplishments. Have you noticed that even he never tries to do that?

That's probably one of the bigger reasons he got so screwed in 2016. He didn't have the money or the willingness / ability to generate the kind of pay-days that Hillary did, so he got hurled to the curb. You can't miser the Miser Kings and expect to be chosen as the forerunner.

Elizabeth Warren used to be a Republican until 1997.

Where's all this support for Biden coming from? Maybe its just the people I associate with but I don't see any support for the guy. Most everyone I know is either in favor of Yang, Gabbard, or Sanders. I'm fairly sure he doesn't have a shot against Trump especially with all the creepy uncle Joe stuff going around.

Obama nostalgia still resonates strong.

That and he's old as shit and really slow and low energy.

Harris was the biggest loser last night. She kept swinging at Biden and missing, and then Tulsi hit her with the sneak attack. I want somebody to call her a dirty cop. There goes all that black support.

She'll win 2024.

Really? I don't see what there was to be nostalgic about. At best he did nothing memorable except make healthcare worse. Whose Nostalgic over that?
People that care more about a president looking and sounding "presidential" than anything else. Obama was really good at that.

The one thing I took away from these early debates is that this is Trumps election to lose.

The Democrats don't have a single decent candidate and sure as hell have no positive message to push to energize thier supporters. I feel only the die hard progressives will turn out to vote and as long as Trump stays on message he will easily win.

Tulsi could be a serious threat if she ever actually got the nomination.

Harris isn't a serious candidate, no matter what she thinks or what the media says. She's as dislikable as Hillary Clinton, but has far less power and money. But don't take my word for it, after her record as a prosecutor was legitimately criticized by Gabbard, here are Harris's own public comments on the matter post-debate:

"This is going to sound immodest, but obviously I'm a top-tier candidate and so I did expect that I'd be on the stage and take some hits tonight," Harris said. "When people are at 0 or 1% or whatever she might be at, so I did expect to take some hits tonight."

Wow. No rebuttal even post-debate after she had time to step back and think up a positive spin, just pure arrogance.

Even Chris Cillizza, one of CNN's resident DNC dickriders, couldn't reconcile how a candidate could be that tone-deaf.

Given the way candidates were handled during the debate my guess would be a Binden/Warren ticket as the DNC pick.

Which is a terrible idea as Trump will easily shred that comp.

Sadly the Drns really don't have a clear leader as all the debates told us was every single one of the candidates will go hard left to please the Twitter crowd.

Too bad they still haven't learned those Twitter warriors usually don't vote cause a re-tweet is enough to change the world right?

The Democrats deserve to loss and loss bad. No pity until they smarten the hell up.

This is what I don't understand about the dems current "strategy". They're all courting a minority of the people who already plan on voting for them. The democratic nominee already has the vote of the woke twitter crowd. Why not try and appeal to people in the middle?

The only interesting candidate on the stage for me was Andrew Yang. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with his political prescriptions, he was the only one there who had anything prescient to say about the economy, and the only one who didn't have to resort to tired platitudes. He performed the best in the debate by some margin, followed in second place by Gabbard.

Harris was a stuttering, shaking mess, and failed to live up to the energy she had during the first debate (was she feeling unwell this time around?). Biden looked similarly flustered, and I doubt he'll be able to maintain the lead he's enjoyed for much longer.

The rest were time-wasters, and should just drop out to save everyone else the bother of having to listen to them.
