Four-and-a-half years.

I purchased in June 2020 a pair of CDs that I happened to find on sale on a whim on some Japanese retail site I had never heard of then. Of course, the coof put a hold on things, but my order was confirmed and I actually did pay it, which was pretty lucky considering I ended up needing to get new cards, twice, and open a new account in between that waiting game, of which I honestly forgot about and never expected because the two Amazon purchases I made at around the same time never made it.

Suddenly, last month, I got a message to pay the shipping fee, which I did. And then I got the shipping confirmation.

A few weeks later, I got to hold the pair of CDs I never expected to ever lay my eyes and hands on ever.

Godspeed, Solaris Japan, you beautiful crazy diamond. I can't believe you actually held on to my order for that long.

EDIT: Duuuude the anime soundtrack came with a trading card LMAO. Fun stuff.

4.5 years of no Ciconia and the Higurashi lore shitting itself. Good times.

I would not be surprised it is used in part. First time I hear about this, thanks for the find! I love this kind of behind-the-scene thing.

For me the GHD "Toxic Swamp Gas" in-universe theory is taken from the Lake Nyos Incident (which took place in August of 1986) and Lake Monoun in Cameroon. I only fully read the manga and anime, so if this is in the TIPS somewhere or mentioned directly I apologize and might have missed it.

According to the latest Transmission, both xaki and dai are joining R07 in Silent Hill f. R07 also confirmed that he was the scriptwriter directly and not a lesser role like I had assumed he would be.

At least we can be sure the OST is gonna be GOATed.

No news on how this is tied to other Silent Hill games or the When They Cry series. but they sure brought up Higurashi a lot.

It's available for wishlist on Steam here; https://store.steampowered.com/app/2947440/SILENT_HILL_f/

The R07 fans have already begun schizoposting about Lambdadelta in the /r/silenthill subreddit. Will, through combined autism, Silent Hill and R07 fans completely figure out Silent Hill f before it's even out? Or will they create a black hole with the weight of two colliding stars?

Personally, I'm looking forward to the reveal that Hinako is an intersex person with a botched circumcision (they fell off a cliff)

As a longtime Ryukishi07 fan, I wanted to share some thoughts on Silent Hill f’s protagonist, Hinako, based on the trailer and his signature writing style. In Ryukishi07's writing, names matter a lot. He's known to use something similar to Osamu Tezuka's Star System, even in his non-WTC works, but in less direct and more meta ways as identity ambiguity and different levels of fiction are recurring themes. Across his works, there are lots of recurring character concepts as "players", "pieces", different characters and roles. One of the most prominent is the "34" character archetype.

There's a form of japanese wordplay called goroawase (語呂合わせ, "phonetic matching"), number substitution. Different numbers can be read in different ways to make words, such as 573 being Konami (Ko=5, na=7, mi=3). Trying to avoid spoilers, the "34" character archetype is identified when a usually blonde female character, sometimes with a name that can be read as 34 in some way (such as Lambdadelta and Vier Dreissig), representing the concept of "Certainty" (絶対) and notably being very obsessed with something or someone and often needy and feeling lonely.

In the trailer's initial two monologues by Hinako, the character's way of thinking reminded me of Higurashi's Satoko Houjou, specially her portrayal in recent anime sequels Higurashi no Naku koro ni Gou and Sotsu. Despite Satoko's name not being read as 34, her character was finally confirmed to be a "34" in Gou and Sotsu. Hinako's mention of being dead and Silent Hill f's setting also reminded me of Hotarubi no Tomoru Koro ni's Miyoko, which was explicitly stated by Lambdadelta in Hotarubi's prequel short story The First and the Last Gift to be one of her "black pieces" (and I believe the white "34" pieces are the "Satokos". Lambda also mentions red and blue pieces, but I don't believe there's a clue to indicate which kind of characters are the blue and red 34s).

Then there's Hinako's name: Hi=1 Na=7 Ko=5 But I don't think the ko (子) here is meant to be read as 5, just like in Miyoko's case. Then we have Hinako meaning "17子", "17 girl/child". 17 is half of 34.

TL;DR: Hinako’s name (17 girl) being half of 34, combined with her dialogue and Ryukishi’s common themes, suggests she may be a new iteration of his “certainty/obsession” archetype.

It's not much of a concluding theory, more of a guess of who Hinako's character is supposed to be like and her lines in the trailer appear to confirm that. Her appearance also reminds me of Satoko but realistic, so no blonde hair. Maybe a Heather reference too? What do you all think? Is this a stretch, or does Ryukishi’s fingerprint feels intentional here? Could “17” symbolize a fractured or incomplete version of the 34 role? Maybe Lambda's red or blue piece?

I feel like this is an alternate account belonging to a very prominent Higurashi-Umineko schizotheorist I've seen on the subreddit for Higurashi whenever the conversations pertain to the Umineko "connections". The writing style and number-names thing are really similar; it always starts off semi reasonable related to the thread topic and then they quickly inundate their comment with tangents of the most back-breaking reaches and conjectures I have only ever seen be made manifest by that particular person. They confuse me and amuse me at the same time.

The Silent Hill fanbase and WTC fanbase will either collaborate to solve the Forte mystery or it will be an autistic thunderdome the likes of which haven't been seen since Sotsu aired.

Honestly that could work as some kind of Sadako/Ring reference but I'm sure Ryukishi would fuck it up in every way humanly possible.
> muh red and blue pieces
Ryukishi should just fucking kill himself already if he's going to go for more of this fucking autism. Yeah every single fucking one of my characters is the exact same archetype of a puppet of some character who was only supposed to appear as an easter egg but who somehow became an inherent force of the universe or some shit, real good writing.

So is this slant going to further tarnish the SH brand by making another, predictable SH2 knockoff plot? Or is there a shot SHf will be worthy?

is there a shot SHf will be worthy?
I speculate the themes of SHf are going to be about gender roles and conforming to / defying society's expectations. It's not new ground for R07, but it is fairly unexplored ground for SH. The closest thing in SH would be SH3, a game old enough to drink legally.

So if you're worried about SHf being another SH2 clone I don't think it's looking like it's heading in that direction. But people that read R07 stuff know the dude likes to soapbox feminist narratives.

It wouldn't be a bad story concept for the time period and area of the world, honestly. I'm not sure how in the world the existing "lore" could explain SH stuff happening in Japan, but at least that's interesting.

Thanks for seriously responding to my question.

I don't think there's even going to be an attempt to link to the original SH lore. From the interviews surrounding SHf, I'm under the impression that they just made a game using the "Silent Hill" rules of fog + world shifting + horror + "inner demons reflected as enemy monsters".

It's not like it CAN'T, but if they did I feel like they would have said something in the interviews that imply they have a plan beyond "It's silent hill because we say so"

For example, the cult of Silent Hill could have sent missionaries to other countries. If they happened upon another site of spiritual power in Japan and found another clairvoyant (Japan is full of them, especially during this time period), that's all the ingredients that birthed the first "Silent Hill".

A sort of sugar, spice and everything nice concoction.

Are there any leaks? From the trailer it looks more like small town drama a la' Higurashi only with Silent Hill gameplay.

I'm not saying I even want a 100% "lore-accurate" explanation. One or two vague, throwaway clues that connect it to the original games in some unexplained (or unexplainable) way would be fine. Nothing might be even better.

[rant] One of my biggest problems with SH post-Konami's in-house development (and especially with the "fandom" at large) is the obsession with lore. Cataloging and discussing lore and Official Interpretations™️ in a wiki, arming every big fan with the same facts, is not scary or interesting. Horror that's effective is scary and interesting, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the logistics of how *groan* "The Order" was influential in Japan when this story is set*, or why ACKSHULLY Pyramid Head can show up in other SH games, or whatever. Psychological horror becomes less effective the more people dissect and explain it, and proper Silent Hill (all 4 of the original games, I will maintain) is made to be interpreted like a nightmare. They have plots, sure, but the plots aren't the point. The overall effect is the point. It's art.

Even 4, which most people hate, is layered full of interesting numerology and shit like that. Nobody call tell you for sure what it means. None of it is logical or factual or related to plot, but it all makes a kind of "sense" in the way a Lynch film does.

None of the post-Konami SH games have gotten that part even close to right. They're all obsessed with trying to prove they're just like earlier games (read: Silent Hill 2), but that's not what Konami's teams would have done. They would have done something different with the basic idea and framework, because they wanted to keep it fresh and interesting, and they weren't playing in someone else's Silent Hill Extended Universe. They were just creating cool shit. [/rant]

So if SHf is more it's own thing, that's good. I want to see something I haven't seen before. But I have no faith at all in current Konami or any of their SH projects. (And fuck the SH2 remake, no interest in that shit at all.)

*That's not a shot at your post, just a reaction to the kind of mind-numbing irrelevant bullshit I'm sure they're autistically discussing at Reddit with a chibi P.H. dancing in the sidebar.
