I dunno about that, the way Umineko ended it was very much leaning into "dude just mindkill yourself to how shit your life is lol it's not delusion it's magic". But then that was at least 50% "stop critically analyzing the work because it's full of holes I'm not competent enough to fill, here's some emotional slop to distract you!"

I read the first arc of the manga, and now I'm seriously struggling to try to get back to it.
It was so painful to read.
Oh my god, what a waste of potential this was.
So Ryukishi is trying to do an alternate post WW2 japan story where china and the US did to japan what japan did to korea.
That already left a kinda sour taste in my mouth, but I let that be. So in the aftermath of this cultural purging the people of japan are just trying to survive and live their daily lives.
The story is about a madam who doesn't know how to madam, and is only the madam because all of the other, more competent ho's who put her in charge... did so, so that they can over throw her later... but they never do. Why? Cause are main girl is the holy virgin uwu mary who's innocence and purity is so great, that none of the others ho's no longer have the heart to take control anymore.
In fact, holy virgin uwu mary's powers are so great that anyone who dares tell her the reality of how the world works is swiftly smited into the hereafter!
I shit you not. This the whole plot of the first arc.
Holy virgin uwu mary just wants the Japanese to get along, actual Japanese people who've suffered more than she ever could have during/after the war tell her what does her halfa ass know, and then they are smited for dare doubting the words, for not believing in the holy virgin uwu mary!
There was potential in this, however it's all squandered because Ryukishi wants to force in a message of overly sacchrine hope, with caricature of a character trope. There's nothing wrong with that trope in and of it's self, (the holy virgin maiden) but, that character archtype is simply not suited to be a main character. They're an ideal, a goal, made for other characters to pursue, idolize, etc, etc, They don't grow cause they're already perfect, already the ideal. There's nothing more to them.
I honestly felt more for the main bad guy of the first arc.
I didn't like the path he going down, I wanted so bad for him to see the light and try to change, but I completely understood why he was doing what he was doing, only for it to all be pissed on by Ryukishi and what I said in the spoiler.
I do still want to try to at least finish reading the manga. I heard that he managed to shoehorn ol' Fredrika into this though...
Ugh, I'm still gonna try though.

I liked it (the VN version though), though it's probably more cringe than I remember. The later arcs gets fucking brutal and it gets better than the Japanese post war victimisation. At least the cast is old enough that it doesn't become child torture like his usual material.
So I just finished the second arc, or rather "season", of Rose Guns Days and...
It was all right.
I found it much better than the first season all things considered.
A quick dirty rundown of the plot in the spoiler below:
So the story starts with what will be the main girl for this arc.
Turns out she's gone an lost her memory after getting it by a car.
No worries though, she's OK!
Aside from having no memories.
She then gets to become besties with three orphans who wanna be just like their Idols; the wild dogs, only...they suck.
Don't worry though our main girl whips them into shape and, omg, they're actually all really good at doing kinda pointless, random things!
But oh no!
Main girl gets her memory back and it turns out she's an assassin sent to kill the holy virgin uwu mary from the first season! But don't fret, holy virgin uwu mary's powers are so great, they converted the assassin girl too!
So now, in order to free our main girl of her fate as a sad assassin, she leads her new group of friends to go kidnap her dad from the chinese mafia that has him held hostage and is the reason why main girl is doing the assassin things she do.
SO HUZZAH, turns out all the things the the trio could do well, are now super important and help in rescuing daddy! YEA!
Holy virgin uwu mary has a completely undeserved reverse card on the main bad guy, and oh, lookit that, turns out the baddies from the first season didn't die, they got converted to become followers of the grand order of the holy virgin uwu mary!

I wanna rant more about how fucking stupid this is, but fuck it, this is already too long...
Anyways, turns out that since kidnapping a prisoner of the chinese mafia puts you on their shit list, main girl and her father have to flee the country, thus the other three also decide to split up and go their separate ways, promising to return to meet up one day when they can all do so together. End.
Now even though I'm being kinda derisive in my summary of the plot, I found it to be a big step up from the first season, the main girl for this arc was just better overall, as well as her dynamic with the other three, and I really appreciated the bittersweet ending.
It also helped massively that Rose, the holy virgin uwu mary I've been harping about, has been pushed to the background where she belongs. She's still important to the story, make no mistake, it's still about her, but she's no longer the focus, and the story overall benefitted from that greatly. It makes me hopeful that the third season might be okayish.
I'm off to read that now.

I don't know why but I remember the series having 4 seasons. Like first is the prologue, second is the rival yakuza and his ass buddy, third is the orphans and the fourth is the conclusion. Anyways I recommend to strap your seatbelt since season 3 is going to be a wild ride.
