I need to read Higurashi and Umineko at some point, will come back here when I start.

When you're feeling motivated to try them, I think Umineko is the better one to start with in spite of it being the 'sequel'. You don't need to read Higurashi first to understand anything in Umineko (and if anything Higurashi might give you the wrong idea about certain Umineko characters).

noted, I do know that the two are barely related and are pretty much their own stories

While I'm thinking about it, I wanna post one of my favorite pieces of music from Higurashi, as composed by a doujin group.

Some of you might recognize these motion graphics.

I guess Umineko motion graphics were made by the same person, but I still haven't watched them. Was gonna wait until I completed the series (which is taking forever, but oh well).

Does anyone have tips on collecting English Umi manga? I've snagged some good deals for the earlier and later volumes, but the middle-half or so seems like quite the nightmare.

I don't know why Yen Press and other publishers don't put a stamp of sorts on their website saying "Oh this title is out-of-print", but I think the physical copies are SOL, and had been like that around 2019 even before the final volumes were released. Buying the digital copies are most likely the way to go at this point, especially since they're legit cheaper than the books themselves.

Yen Press started to rerelease some of the Rose Guns Days manga in English earlier this month so there may be a tiny sliver of hope that one day they'll get a rerelease. I'm not a fan of the manga whatsoever but the art is fantastic, so I wouldn't mind owning a volume or two that doesn't break the bank one day.

Mei got a “school days” collab that materialized out of nowhere a week ago.
I don’t think he’s going to win with the current direction the franchise is headed.

The level of eroticism found in the School Days cards is honestly pretty mild. They're far more focused on murder than porn, which really doesn't make it a bad fit for Higurashi.
Last year's Christmas Hanyuu card that featured her as an underwear-clad "Santa" was far worse.
Funny thing, the wiki refused to upload it because they have no balls.

I dont remember if they uploaded the Kazuho card that released alongside it either.

I want to wait for an English version but man this arc is kind of a letdown even if you didn't give two shits about Teppei's redemption arc. Tatariakashi shitting the bed this hard wasn't on my bingo list of When They Cryisms for the year
Why do you people even care? Higurashi is pretty much done and has been for the better part of 15 years already. The. story. is. OVER!
