I think the biggest issue with Jaques is that he is a supposed abusive father written by people who had normal lives and
simply have no idea what an abusive parent is actually like or even bother to research it. So he just comes off as a jerk with temper issues.
I'm still shocked they think the slap was the epitome of evil. I mean, I guess, it works for a generic raging alcoholic father, but that isn't what they were going for.
An abusive father would've also destroyed her psychologically not just with a mere slap.
I get what they were trying to do. There are many flavors of abusiveness, but I personally would've gone for the classic cycle of abuse:

Basically a real abusive father would've destroyed her self confidence, all while pretending he was doing it for her own good. Which is what makes them facinating: your character is trapped in a toxic relationship; torn between loving a toxic relative that is both hurting and kinda helping you. Think Mother Gothel of Tangled or Fire lord Ozai. Zuko and Rapunzel had trouble leaving because they felt something positive for the abusers at one point.
Toph's parents from TLA were also a good example: They loved their daughter and were overpotective; but they also made her feel miserable and useless by treating her like a helpless blind girl.
Psychological abusive parents are hard to get rid because, they are bad; but also pretend not to. Without that doubt, then there's no dilemma as the solution is simply to go away
The dilemma should be that Jaques gave her a comfortable life, and tried to keep her safe, but also made her feel miserable, alone and helpless, and useless.
What they did instead:
Jaques: "Weiss, You are gonna inherit a huge corporation. Behave yourself! I don't want you to get in danger"
Me: "That's actually a reasonable stance for a father"
