Can you think of a more thin skinned fandom? I can’t
I've genuinely seen them start harassing people for daring to rewrite the show because the mere implication that something in the show can be improved sends them into a seething rage. Thinned skin barely scratches the surface of their ridiculousness. It doesn't matter if the people rewriting it are doing so out of passion and love for the show, the fact that they don't worship everything RT makes means they're the enemy. Another reason why I've avoided doing a full rewrite of the show. I have ideas but I don't want to deal with these speds for all the work it would require.

I mean to be fair a lot of those rewrites do suck or usually approach it from some arms-crossed-take-that-libs angle of doing it to try and prove they're better than M&K, all while giving themselves more budget than HBO and making a lot of basic rookie mistakes.

That said, there are people on the fandom, especially on Reddit, who go nuclear at rewrites. Being a Youtuber and going there is like begging for death threats.

“Abuse”. He slapped Weiss once and cut her off for not returning his calls.
And Winter slapped Weiss more than Jacques did when she arrived back in Volume 3 yet we're supposed to see her as a good older sister. Like Weiss gets excited when talking to Winter when she comes in and Winter just slaps her publicly and it's portrayed as funny. Then she slaps her again when Weiss is trying to practice summoning and none of this is seen as bad. But Jacques slaps her after Weiss made that obvious "screw you dad" song and THAT is what justifies him being seen as an irredeemable abusive monster.

I think Jacques may be the most under appreciated character of the entire franchise whom the FNDM gives unwarranted hate instead of warranted praise. He...
  • Is such a high T gigolo who can get any pussy, to the point he got to bang Willow like a bongo drum and literally fucked himself into the Fortune 500.
  • Disinherited Winter after she joined the military, realizing that as long as his daughter LARPs as a man, her eggs will be dryer than the Sahara desert.
  • Pimp slaps and disinherits Weiss for being an uppity bitch who forgot her place.
  • Wants to secure the existence of the SDC and a future for Schnee children by putting it in the hands of a man and designating Whitley as the successor.
  • Is thus a responsible patriarch who maintains a strong pimp hand.
Fucking based! 👍

Here’s the thing: I feel this show wants to present “one good Schnee”, the one person that Weiss can turn to in her family that’s an island of good in a sea of awful...though this could also expand to Atlesian society as a whole of you want to expand it to the kingdom of Atlas. V3 it was Winter, V4 it was Klein the butler...and in V7 we have Willow taking the role.

Well, it seems that even with all that, the fans hate him for laying a hand on their precious best girl Weiss. And we all know what happens when fans/CRWBY hate a character. Even though some of my friends actually think that Jacques is one of the few people trying to fix the problems Atlas is facing and that there really hasn’t been any abuse as bad as what fans say there is, physical or otherwise. Honestly, everything about Weiss’s motivation seems to be more family issues centering on Jacques being a douche than anything resembling the way the SDC is run because we don’t see anything about how the company operates under anyone of note.

Well, that and they never saw Adam absuing Blake in the same way Jacques did.

We return with another galaxy brain take, courtesy of that Bumblebee tard from pages ago~ There's just so much wrong with this shit, it's just hilarious to see;

-The whole abusive relationship between Adam and Blake is nothing but forced garbage, shoehorned into Volume 3 because Miles wasn't interested in keeping what their creator wanted (A Student-Teacher *Platonic* Relationship) because he had a different view and decided to Retcon what he saw fit.

-Nothing in Adams's appearance screams Bishonen, at best he's the epitome of Tall, Dark, and Handsome but nothing about his design screams "feminine uwu boi" a tiny bit~ I refer to point one in regards to his abuse, so I won't repeat again.

-With Jacques, once he had appeared on screen you could tell he was a major league asshole and shitty dude even before slapping Weiss but Adam was characterized as a extremist who wanted the world to burn and humanity to pay for what they did to him, until he became a Yandere Kylo Ren clone who ended up as a joke that DIES because Miles, Kerry, and CRWBY hated him to not actually doing good writing.

-The logic that only abusers, males, and those who didn't suffer from abuse not seeing Adam as an abuser is r.e.tarded...As expected of a current year tart who probably thinks the Galaxy Brain Duo writing the 2016 Election in RWBY was a genius idea.

In general, you're a dumb hoe.

Yeah they only manage one person per Volume on that and it's never consistent. I'd like some consistent family dynamics with the Schnee family. And for them to properly flesh things out. They could have started doing this back in Volume 4 when Weiss was stuck in Atlas by showing her whole family, but they didn't do anything of value with it.

And this is where Miles and co.'s big problem of telling and not showing destroys their writing. We're told that Jacques is an evil scumbag who we need to hate, but at worst he comes off as an obnoxious dick. I recall someone pointing out that in Volume 4 he talks about how he pays his Faunus workers properly and we're given no information that proves he's lying about it. If we had seen the SDC mistreating Faunus on screen then we would have a solid reason to hate him. Even him slapping Weiss isn't even that shocking given she publicly sang a song against him. Sure it's bad to slap your child like that but compared to what we're supposed to see Jacques as they have failed to portray that. They need to show, on screen, that Jacques is a monster if they want us to believe it. Show him being a racist bigot that makes anything Weiss said in Volume 1 seem kind. Show him hitting Weiss/Winter/Whitley/Willow or at least causing some kind of harm without any reason to and with no remorse. Show us that he's lying about treating Faunus well. Just making him a snooty douchey rich guy isn't enough to make us hate his guts.

But I think they have the same problem here that they had with Adam. They hate him for their own reasons and assume that everyone else hates him too. The FNDM hates Jacques because they're supposed to. It hurts not only the overall story but Weiss's personal plotline because it shows they won't put the work in to back up what they said, even after Miles claimed he was totally fixing all the show don't tell issues after Volume 5.

Okay, so people are supposed to hate Jacques? That’s a good thing though, you wrote a villain correctly. Is the problem that people hate Jacques for petty reasons? Also, now that you mention it, it is weird they do the one good Schnee/Atlesian in the first place, let alone have it change with the volumes.

I think the biggest issue with Jaques is that he is a supposed abusive father written by people who had normal lives and simply have no idea what an abusive parent is actually like or even bother to research it. So he just comes off as a jerk with temper issues.

I'm still shocked they think the slap was the epitome of evil. I mean, I guess, it works for a generic raging alcoholic father, but that isn't what they were going for.

Basically a real abusive father would've destroyed her self confidence, all while pretending he was doing it for her own good. This is what makes them fascinating: your character is trapped in a toxic relationship; torn between loving a toxic relative that is both hurting and kinda helping you. Think Mother Gothel of Tangled or Fire lord Ozai. Zuko and Rapunzel had trouble leaving because they felt something positive for the abusers at one point.

Toph's parents from TLA were also a good example: They loved their daughter and were overprotective; but they also made her feel miserable and useless by treating her like a helpless blind girl.

An abusive father would've also destroyed her psychologically not just with a mere slap.

I get what they were trying to do. There are many flavors of abusiveness, but I personally would've gone for the classic cycle of abuse:

Some, Psychological abusive parents are hard to get rid of because, they are bad, but also tend to pretend not to. Without that doubt, then there's no dilemma as the solution is simply to go away

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. C.s Lewis

The dilemma should be that Jaques gave her a comfortable life, and tried to keep her safe, but also made her feel miserable, alone and helpless, and useless.

What they did instead:

Jaques: "Weiss, You are gonna inherit a huge corporation. Behave yourself! I don't want you to get in danger"
Me: "That's actually a reasonable stance for a father"

My point with Jacques was that we're supposed to see him as this extremely horrid irredeemable villain, but they failed to write him in a way that comes across as bad as how they tell us we're supposed to feel about him. I find Jacques to be more annoying and dull than anything. I mean am I supposed to take him cutting Weiss's credit card off after she stops taking his calls and slapping her in Volume 4 as proof that he's completely evil? Yet Winter slaps Weiss twice in Volume 3 yet we're supposed to like her. And so much of Jacques' crimes have been told rather than shown, and the closest we got to seeing how it directly affected anyone was the SDC branding on Adam's face, which comes out of left field then he dies right after that making the entire reveal pointless cause they didn't want us to sympathize with Adam. They should have gone the full 9 yards to portray Jacques as the scummy abusive dickwad we're supposed to see him as. It reminds me of how Raiko was written in Legend of Korra, where we're supposed to see him as this slimy politician but he actually makes sound decisions like not wanting Korra to start a war or being mad his city is being destroyed because of her.

Yeah that's a good way to say it. The writers really don't know what abuse is like and are writing a watered down version of what they think they're writing. It's a very complex thing to write in a story and Miles and co. really aren't up to the task.
