So can we just (continue to) say that the plot to this series makes absolutely no sense? Salem's "big plan" was to send Watts and Tyrian into Mantle to stir up trouble and attract Grimm. They plan to do this by staging what I thought would be an assassination attempt on Robyn Hill and pin the blame on Ironwood somehow. There are several reasons why this confuses me and shouldn't and wouldn't work:

1. Are you telling me there were no other eyewitnesses at that party besides Ruby and Penny? Correct me if I'm wrong but there were a couple of Faunesses there, right? Don't they have animal-like abilities like, I dunno, being able to see in the dark?

2. Penny's blades, in no way, match the type of wounds Tyrian's tail can inflict. Maybe the blades on his guns could pass, but he stabbed plenty of people with his tail. As soon as someone puts it together that multiple people were stabbed with a tail, no one will believe Penny did that.

3. Don't know how vote reporting in Mantle works, but Watts changed several of those districts from yellow to blue with a wave of his hand. They'll be at least several districts in Mantle crying voter fraud if their district suddenly changed hands after they'd submitted all their votes.

4. At the beginning of the episode Ruby is shown using her Semblance (which in a previous episode was classified as a speed-type) in a new, never-before-seen way. In this episode she is one of the slowest ones to react to anything: she doesn't try and tackle Robyn off the stage and she doesn't try to go after Tyrian at all.

5. Penny, who can see in the dark, also does not give pursuit to Tyrian. She just stands over Robyn until the lights come back on.

6. Why doesn't anyone make the obvious connection that if Ironwood wanted Robyn dead, why didn't Penny kill her? The lights come back on and she's just standing over her in a defensive position over Robyn after what looks like someone carved a bloody path from the stage right through the middle of the crowd. Which makes no sense because at the beginning of this scene Penny is standing guard at the foot of the stage so if she wanted to kill Robyn she could've just turned around and done it? Why kill a bunch of people in the crowd first and then kill Robyn?

7. Doesn't Mantle have a bunch of great defenses against Grimm? How are they suddenly in the kingdom, flying around in swarms, after this one little incident? Don't you have robots or turrets or that shield thing from the Amity Colosseum?

Gotta give it to the writing team of RWBY for consistently fumbling good ideas with Fridge Logic. The most obvious and straightforward way to go about writing this scene is to have Watts use his Semblance to control Penny directly and have her try to kill Robyn while Ruby tearfully restrains her. Maybe I'm just miffed that the writers continue to pick on one of my favorite characters, but this is clearly just artificial drama that will be cleared up by the end of the season in a very predictable fashion. I'm glad RenNora got canonized but the feeling is tinged with trepidation. If something bad happens to one of those two I'm officially calling Miles and Kerry out for being bigoted towards gingers.

I wanna know why there's any Grimm in Mantle at all, considering that it was established that it's cold enough in Mantle to freeze them to death. Grimm shouldn't even be an issue this volume.

The World of Remnant videos were disregarded a long time ago. And either they found a way for Grimm to survive in the cold or they had some designs they wanted to feature.

All your points are valid and I really am split on whether I like what's happened or if the show needed to be plot contrived to hell and back just to make the villains threatening.

Oh my bad; I thought Watt's ability to manipulate electronics was his semblance, not just a feat of his technical genius. Not to say of course that I doubt he is some kind of genius. I guess my idea of a character that gets by on their semblance alone rather than their semblance + weapon and fighting style is just not in the cards yet for this show.

Side note: Oscar mentions he doesn't even have a Semblance yet. Now I didn't watch all of World of Remnant, but does everyone get a Semblance or just a select few who are born with it/train to develop it? I don't remember Ozpin's Semblance (if he had one) but wouldn't it be the same as Ozpin's? I wish there could be a character on the team that doesn't have or doesn't need a Semblance to get by, but that's just not possible anymore given the powerlevels we're dealing with here.

So why not just hack Penny directly and have her try to kill Robyn on stage under the spotlight? Because then Tyrian wouldn't get to do anything? It's just so weird to me: their plan to frame Ironwood for Robyn's murder almost went off without a hitch expect for the part where Robyn was supposed to die. But her dying wasn't part of the plan at all? Why leave her alive, if only to create a loose end that could vouch for Ironwood later to put a stop to this artificial drama?

I don't remember Ozpin's Semblance (if he had one) but wouldn't it be the same as Ozpin's? I wish there could be a character on the team that doesn't have or doesn't need a Semblance to get by, but that's just not possible anymore given the powerlevels we're dealing with here.

Some people unlock Semblances in their childhood through training or just realizing they have a power one day (Ruby, Yang, Nora), others get them in their adulthood at moments of extreme trauma or stress (Jaune and Ren). Oscar's only been seriously fighting since the Battle of Haven so he hasn't had much time yet to unlock it.

Also with Tommy, if you stay on his Twitter long enough, you'll find some hot takes related to Bumblebee shipping and socialism as he wanted RT to unionize during the crunch scandal, which he sees as the way to fix the problems with the animators.

Ironwood, who was head of security in the Vytal tournament, also completely ignored every obviously strange thing that happened and didn't look into anything despite being characterized in Volume 2 as someone who wanted quick and decisive action taken. But even that didn't make him look as stupid as not learning at ALL from the fall of Beacon. seriously the characters in RWBY will change personality at the drop of a hat as long as it serves the plot. If someone needs to be an idiot for something to happen Miles WILL drop their IQ to zero to make it happen.

And the Renora kiss was definitely more damage control. I remember when they were made "official" at the end of Volume 4 when they had that dedicated scene of them holding hands. Then the show completely ignored it after that... at least until they needed something that would get fans excited after dropping ratings and the company being embroiled in controversy and scandal. It's the same with Penny coming back, or Neo coming back. This is just RT desperately trying to get fans to care. It's a shame cause Renora is cute and all but they're just being used to get fans excited.
