Also, weren't all the early RWBY models copied from free poser models? I remember reading rumors about there somewhere. The werewolf Grimm(whatever it was called) was definitively taken from Skyrim no doubt.

HAHAHHAHAHHAHA I can't wait for this to bomb too. The first season was considered universally to be meh at best and atrocious at worst. Not to mention how much money this lost. They've been trying to pimp out Gen:Lock to try to get any money out of it. Also this is going on HBO Max as if anyone is going to pay money to see this crap.

Also this article is hilarious how it tries to frame them losing a bunch of employees as "a move to position itself for profitable growth." But with them announcing they're working on three seasons of RWBY AND another season of Gen:Lock that's going to be even more of a strain on RT than doing Volume 6 and Gen:Lock at the same time was.

Holy crap I just realized something. People will be paying for RT First to watch their shows... and unless they want to wait several months they'll need to pay for HBO Max to watch season 2 of Gen:Lock. So the main appeal of RT First was that they'd get RT shows first is completely shot cause they'll sell their shows out to other services. I'm hearing RT fans who are still trying to stick with the company are getting pissed.

MMD models, not Poser ones. Even the average Poser model looks like utter ass compared to the RWBY ones. Though that could be because I've spent too long in the dA horrors thread.

I think they should’ve been scrapped, because arguably the concept of the Maidens is poorly made/ thought out and Galaxy Brain Miles thinks he’s clever because they’re named after seasons.

Questions to ask would be:

-Are their Maiden powers tied to their Aura, or is it unlimited?

- How much full-scale damage can a experienced Maiden do? What magical abilities do they have besides just Elemental crap?

- Why aren’t they restricted to their corresponding season, and all have the same Elemental powerset?

-What truly is the age limit for a Maiden? Because the commentary on V3 said that Glynda was too old, but she looks to be around Raven’s age?

Imagine hyping a character that hard and their only power is "well they kind of shoot fire or do ice". Like...Dust is a thing, how is that supposed to be impressive? Dio stops a fundamental aspect of reality, Jiren was so strong he could tell said fundamental aspects of reality to fuck off, Uriel could collapse supermassive black holes as a side-effect from fighting a peer.

And the Maidens from RWBY...they do something everyone's basic gear already does. As expected from the dynamic duo of M&K, who surely didn't randomly write this shit in because they love Fairy Tail and thus think elements are OMG THE COOELST

I absolutely agree that they should have been scrapped. They were an underdeveloped idea from the start that was even more poorly written. They distracted from the actual running plot of RWBY and derailed everything that was going on. What was really important was Cinder's plans that were literally never elaborated on, Roman's involvement with them, and really WHY Cinder was doing what she was doing. All that along side basic worldbuilding that needed to be done to flesh the world out properly, and giving Ruby her own plotline because she's the freaking main character. And if they wanted to do the tournament arc they seriously needed to spend at least most of the season on that and actually do it right instead of the abomination of an arc that we got which was nothing more than filler until they got all dark and serious with the plot. The Maidens plotline was nothing but a plot tumor that damaged season 3 heavily and then ended up destroying the show as it goes on because it's just stupid.

And the age limit thing sounds like BS they came up with after the fact because it was brought up that Glynda would have been the perfect fit because she's already involved in the Ozluminati. It would mean they wouldn't have to bring in a random teenager. Any limitation on age is something the show does not establish and doesn't count. And this is even contradicted later by Raven who's clearly middle aged yet has Maiden powers. Nothing about this was thought through.

We've literally seen Semblances that are more impressive than Maiden powers. If they're supposed to have elemental powers it needs to be cranked up way past 11. I'm talking about summoning hurricanes, creating monstrous blizzards in an instant, creating earthquakes level of power. But what we got was lame and makes the Maidens look so stupid it becomes ridiculous that anyone would want Maiden powers when the increase in powers is negligible. Seriously Cinder looked like she was already strong enough to beat a Maiden before she got any powers so what was the point of it? All it did was give her a huge weakness to Silver Eyes, which is another thing that's been barely touched on and very poorly explained. If they wanted the Maidens to be impressive they needed to be able to do something seriously crazy like warp time and space to justify all that hype. But what would Miles and Kerry be without their terrible ideas and wasted concepts?

RWBY has some very shitty worldbuilding. Note: I'm still working on my rewrite but I've been preoccupied with... other matters and its honestly not that high on my priority list I hope to post something by the end of the month though

To Fairy Tail’s credit, at least they bothered explaining the Dragon Slayer concept and History...Not the God Slayers, but still they had an explanation for the Dragon ones.

RWBY hasn’t even told us what the full extent is...On the topic of Elemental Powers, other works can do something interesting and far better things with them compared to RWBY;One Piece comes to mind, Oda got decently creative and did make characters who could do cool shit along with Logias being established as rarer than Paramecia Devil Fruits.

I 100% agree with this, and should point out that Salem’s quest to obtain the powers of the Maidens makes less sense because she’s way more fucking above them to a HILARIOUS degree~ She can’t ever die, and has control over Grimm so why not use those insanely huge Grimm from Volume 2 that Oobleck and Ruby saw to study on the expedition?

She could cut the dead-weight lackeys of hers that shit the bed more than a bumbling drunk who had Taco Bell for dinner.
 
I agree with the maidens being pointless, but I would like to add that the "OMG magic is real GUYz!!!!" plot point is even more unnecessary.

I mean if in the real world we suddenly discovered magic was real that would be a shocker, but this is a world where literally everyone has superpowers. Just like in the MCU suddenly having wizards wasn't that big of a deal considering the avengers, who had a Norse god as a member, had been around for years.

How exactly is "magic" different from semblances? I mean I know there must be a BS explanation, but in practice they are indistinguishable. The only major difference I can see is that "magic" users can have more than one superpower and they have immortality BS.

This is another point that Volume 3 started on that just... doesn't make sense. When Ozpin said that magic was real I was like "Yeah Weiss can warp time with Glyphs, Pyrrha can control metal, Ruby can run so fast she creates a tornado, Sun can literally create clones of light, and Glynda has telekinesis" so what's the big deal? Then you have Dust which can create fireballs and walls of ice among other things. How is all that stuff not magic? I've seen people try to argue that Semblances and Dust aren't magic and aren't considered magic... but like you said how is magic any different from that? In a world where everyone has their own superpower wouldn't magic just be something that doesn't stick out?

This gets even more painful in Volume 5 when they all freak out about how Raven and Qrow can turn into birds. Weiss especially shouldn't be impressed when she can literally summon the dead Grimm she's killed to fight for her. The show has no consistency with its powers because Miles will get an idea in his head and ram it in regardless of how much it doesn't work.

Monty ran on Rule of Cool. One of the downsides of Rule of Cool is that the disregarding of rules is a double edged sword in that while any questions can be handwaved with "fuck you, it's cool" there has to b a point where things are grounded in in-universe rules. And honestly, given the Maidens are nothing more than four Avatars always in Avatar State that can be entered at will, I think the Maidens was just another thing Monty wanted to have awesome fight scenes.

At least when Monty was in charge of the show the story was never super important and the main draw was the fight scenes. I can imagine Monty had ideas for the Maidens for fight scenes but he only worked on a small amount of Volume 3 before he died (I believe he worked some on the Yang vs Mercury fight and some of the Roman/Neo vs Ruby fight) so how the Maidens were handled falls squarely on the shoulders of Miles, who took them in a very serious direction and tried to make the story front and center. And ultimately he made the Maidens look like chumps.
