Slight tangent: I play video games but I'm not what you'd call a gamer in that I don't get many new games, I'm happy replaying the same ones many times and I don't follow gaming news much.

When I play games on platforms like Steam or GOG, I am always surprised by what seems very low completion rates. Almost every achievement I unlock has a low overall rate.

For instance: I've been playing Bioshock 2 on GOG lately. It's a 16-year old game that was a hit back then. No achievement reaches 50%, and the one that is nearest that is for completing an early portion of the game. This is very odd to me; it's extremely rare that I buy a game and not finish it. The game has to suck super hard for me to give up on it. But it seems many people buy lots of games just to give them a go.

This isn't really to do with Rowling derangement but it's a fascinating insight into the economics of social media and why reply guys swarm around big accounts. (Ben Ryan is not a reply guy, he's a pretty serious journalist.)

Someone needs to kindly tell that ugly troon EssenceofThought to shut his ugly piehole, there's literally nothing here of note.
They truly, honestly believe this is the killer blow against Rowling (and everyone who thinks they're disgusting perverts, which is everyone). I've never seen such a desperate narrative form up so fast and with such fury as this one. It's like a collective narc extinction burst.

Oh, Noes, does that mean that every time a troon argues with Joanne on Twitter she gets even richer. Maybe she can dedicate her next yacht to India Willoughby.

Himdia finally blocked Rowling, so now he can't make bank by standing in Rowling's shadow. Maybe he'll have to go on another Celebrity Big Brother where he terrorises women for noticing he's a man.

Look 'Sassy', you really don't get to imply JK Rowling is old and ugly when you look like this. It's not really twink death if there was never twink life. I'm sorry you got bullied in school, but sadly you're just not that funny.

Holy negative canthal tilt Batman. Imagine being gay and looking like an alcoholic frog. Like pick a struggle.

Just to illustrate how they are lying here (going with Steam stats, but I doubt consoles are that much different)

On steam, 89% of the reviews are positive. How is this mid? And it's not like these are all reviews by people with less than 10h play time.

The completion rate is normal. I guess it depends on whether you see "beating the final boss" as completion or "meeting the rest of the conditions for the final-final ending" (it's possible you have to finish all the optional relationship side quests, I don't remember), which a lot of people generally do not bother with once the story is over. That still doesn't mean they hated the game.

I don't know what kind of finishing percentage they think you need to be successful, but 25% is normal for a lot of games, and it does not tell you whether a game really failed or not. Also, people will finish the main story and not care about "end credits". And 100%ing as in collecting all achievements is a bit of a pain because you need to restart the game with 4 different characters for each house and play up to a certain point. While you do get a unique quest for each, it just is not really worth it.

As for the Games Awards, I am sure it was intentionally ignored to avoid any controversy. There are so many crap games that get nominated, it makes no sense why Hogwarts Legacy shouldn't at least have appeared in best action/adventure or rpg if not for political reasons.
Also, didn't Baldur's Gate 3 win GOTY that year? Being beaten by BG3 isn't really something to be disappointed about since that game was the most hyped up game of that year. Also no troons, the game didn't win because it gave you the option to make your character trans. Most people who talk about how awesome the game is say that its main strength is its replay value. The game has so many options to choose from when you do a playthrough that you could replay it 10 times and still have a good time. Hell, despite the option to make your character trans, I hardly see anything pro trans in the game. The only thing I remember in the game was there was this one TIM tiefling in a obscure Shadowheart quest. Its literally a quest that the player can never actually discover unless they did certain things in the game.
