If you thought you didn't want to live on this planet due to the last few weeks, the hatred looks like it's about to get even worse for you. Why? The Summer Olympics in Rio are about to be underway, of course. With the political turmoil and corruption going on in Brazil right now, what could possibly go wrong?

Oh, boy, this could get interesting. The Olympic Village has been so well-constructed that the toilets are often blocked, wiring is exposed and water leaks are commonplace. The Australian Olympic teams and Hope Solo are among people that are refusing to go anywhere near there for fear of their health and safety.

The part you need to know about is how the mayor of Rio responded. With no sense of irony whatsover, he offered them a kangaroo to make them feel more at home at the Village. Because a kangaroo is going to fix the plumbing and electrical issues the place has.

This may or may not be a complete and utter shitshow, but it's something to definitely keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

Believe me, stadium subsidies are a ripoff. They're a waste of taxpayers' money and they go directly to the pockets of corporations.

I'm no fan of big business, but I'd much prefer them building their shit with their shekels, not mine.

I don't know about FIFA but if I wanted to watch someone give themselves a hand-job for two hours I'd probably go onto PornHub and watch for free instead of paying like $30 a pop to see it in a theater. But then again I really don't get turned on by people jerking themselves in front of a camera, let alone spend millions of dollars in the process.

Impoverished shitholes with crime problems and rotting infrastructure shouldn't be selected to host the Olympics. That sounds harsh and flies in the face of muh diversity, but the safety and security of the people attending is more important than that crap.

I hope something too big to ignore (besides everything obvious in the general area) happens so it ruffles a few feathers on social media, and they bitch about the participants who wise up and leave. I want to read something from the Olympic Athletes like "You were on your fat ass preaching diversity, you weren't experiencing what WE had.".

Honestly? Not well received at all.

As a Brazilian and Carioca myself, I can say that there are two "camps", so to speak: the people who usually are oblivious to most issues, these are the ones that welcome the Games. Everyone else, however, agrees that we shouldn't be hosting the Olympics, as the city has way too many problems to deal with right now. And yet our government rather spend money with these dirty dang olympic games.

Here are some examples:

- The long-standing war on organized crime, which gets worse every year.
- Our state-funded Hospitals and Universities are terribly underfunded at the moment, as the government is prioritizing the Olympics in spite of everything else. (Source: me. I am a student at UERJ, Rio de Janeiro State University)
- Over the last decade, the number of traffic jams has skyrocketed. Many people say Rio is now among the worst traffic congested cities in the planet
- How the hell they want to hold swimming, sailing and rowing competitions at FUCKING GUANABARA BAY, which is polluted to the core??? Seriously, it baffles me.
 
All the controversy surrounding the possibly hazardous water and the opening ceremony literally begins with brown water flooding the stadium.

I'm glad they included the Favelas in the show.

Favelas: a place where black people dance merrily to dubstep.

Also: the acoustics. One set of speakers is apparently repeating the primary audio source, and in addition to that there's another pair of speakers repeating the first audio source for the big screen only with a one second delay. How do you fuck up something like that?
