If you thought you didn't want to live on this planet due to the last few weeks, the hatred looks like it's about to get even worse for you. Why? The Summer Olympics in Rio are about to be underway, of course. With the political turmoil and corruption going on in Brazil right now, what could possibly go wrong?

Oh, boy, this could get interesting. The Olympic Village has been so well-constructed that the toilets are often blocked, wiring is exposed and water leaks are commonplace. The Australian Olympic teams and Hope Solo are among people that are refusing to go anywhere near there for fear of their health and safety.

The part you need to know about is how the mayor of Rio responded. With no sense of irony whatsover, he offered them a kangaroo to make them feel more at home at the Village. Because a kangaroo is going to fix the plumbing and electrical issues the place has.

This may or may not be a complete and utter shitshow, but it's something to definitely keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

I think someone at BBC is taking the piss out Rio's attempts to calmn the Aussies.

Lol and he's trash talking the Aussies who complained too passive aggressively.
To be fair they just fixed the village problems:

After claiming structural problems and refusing to enter the Olympic Village on Sunday, the Australian committee changed the tone and highlighted an evolution in terms of the official residence on Monday. At a news conference at the Rio 2016 Olympic Park, the team leader, Kitty Chiller, said there have been improvements in the building for the country in the last 24 hours, it is expected that the delegation may move to the village on Wed market. She said, however, that the country is having a lot of extra expenses with the provisional hotel accommodation and other details like cleaning the official rooms. - It's been a very positive day. We had several Australian touring the village today with smiles on their faces because we had a great progress in the past 24 hours. Up to 15h, three floors were ready. Three other floors should be ready tonight. Australia will occupy 15 floors in the building 23. At this time tomorrow, we hope that the whole building is ready ... It was fantastic progress today. The works done were very good. They made a great effort and we are very pleased with it. According to our plan, we will be ready to move on Wednesday - Kitty said. According to the responsible staff, problems were found in plumbing systems, gas and electricity. The weather was even more uncomfortable after the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes tried to minimize the problems and said the Olympic Village of the city is more beautiful than Sydney. The politician also said in a relaxed tone that put kangaroos to help make Australians to feel "at home". The answer came by communications director, Tancred, who said they did not need kangaroos, but plumbers to solve the "lakes" found in the building. In the second, the tone adopted by Kitty was milder. The ruling also said that he will meet with the mayor this week. - The mayor of Rio and I have a meeting on Wednesday. I believe there will be a ceremony of the keys and we will prepare a gift for the mayor too. I'm looking forward to meet him after two years of jokes in the press, which is never fun. + Athlete archery remember cold shower in London and praises River Village + Australians expect solution to the Olympic Village: "Fingers crossed" + Australia need to afford food and transportation on days outside the village + Wiring exposed, leaking and broken ceiling: see the village problems + Check out the top stories of the day on the Olympics in Rio Collective of Australia in the village of Rio 2016 athletes (Photo: Gustavo Rotstein) Team leader explains the situation of the Olympic Village (Photo: Gustavo Rotstein) Australian sailing teams, slalom canoeing and boxing are already in Rio de Janeiro. While not enter the village, athletes and coaches are temporarily installed in hotels in the area and press accommodation. In this period, the Australian committee itself will bear the costs of hosting and food. They are still having cleaning costs and other details at the official residence of the athletes. Something that, according to Kitty, is not a concern at this time. - No one ever volunteered to pay for things, is not it? (Laughs) First we did was to make sure that the preparation of the athletes was not impaired in any way. The staff will see today that the accommodation they are are well suited and is in a building officiates. I talked to some teams that are coming and was a major premise have accommodation space for them what we have, and also transport, food, medical aid and all that providenciaríamos in the village. (About refund), we will solve it later. I'm just worried about leaving everything pronto.- said Chiller. Despite the disappointment on arrival at Rio de Janeiro, the team leader expressed confidence that the problem will be selected and still did praise the Olympic Village in Rio. - In the last two years I was saying that this was the best Villa of the six I've ever been. And he went on to say it will be when the problems pointed out are corrected. Other delegations with problems The delegation of Australia was the only one so far who refused to enter the village. However, other countries have also complained about the conditions. According to the very head of the Australian delegation also had problems the delegations of Brazil, Britain, New Zealand, Japan, Belgium, Holland and Germany. According to the newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport", the Italians also had problems and hired workers themselves to make adjustments. The Argentine committee was another who criticized the official residence of the athletes. According to the organization of Rio 2016, about 600 workers working in emergency regime in the Olympic Village to solve the structural problems. The expectation is that the repairs are completed until next Thursday, a week before the Games begin.

Christ man at least paragraph break that.

Every successive news report makes this sound more and more like a Monty Python sketch about the Olympics gone horribly wrong.

I remember Brazil from the 90's and everything I've heard does not point to improvement.

Do the athletes have armed guards? If not, a pool should be started on which nation will experience a kidnapping first.

Like, even though he wasn't part of the Olympics, some new zealand martial artist guy already has been kidnapped by the police and forced to take money from two ATMS.

These games are going to be remembered as one of the most messy of all time. They spent about 7,4 $ billion into this Olympics and is pretty obvious that most of it are in the hands of the corrupt politicians. The brazilian criminality is very high when someone tries to steal the torch http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2016/07/23/man-tries-to-steal-olympic-torch-in-brazil/8749013
And don't forget the aftermath, the infrastructure will never be used again, as we saw in past Olympics, turning into white elephants of a decaying Rio de Janeiro. The citizens always pay the waste made by the leaders who are going to be richer despite of how the games will be.
A bit of Powerlevel , but I'm glad that my city wasn't elected as olympic city, we dodged a huge bullet this time.

That was just an involuntary contribution to the local constabulary. I'm not sure it is possible to get kidnapped in Brazil without losing at least one appendage.

Not even the ceremonial outfits are getting any respect. Iranians are calling their own nation's outfits "erasers", and Georgia is fearing theirs "would make the whole world laugh at Georgia." and people are petitioning to have it changed, even though it's far too late at this point.

Meanwhile, our own great nation appears to have latched onto the "gay yacht owner" fashion trend.

fuck dude i tried and failed, tldr:600 guys are working to fix the olympic village, most of the clogging was caused by the painters who fucking started painting the village only weeks ago and the paint dried inside the plumbing.
most of the problems were fixed and the aussies will start to live there on wendsday.
also the new zelander kidnapped dint appeared on the media here, can confirm most bad news are being censored.

You know what I haven't heard much from in these past days? Terrorism. Given the recent surge in global terrorism, in Europe, and ISIS threats against the western world, I'm guessing it's fair to say there is a high risk of disaster occurring. How prepared is the Brazilian government to undertake these security challenges? If there is a high degree of corrupt practices in the construction and hygiene preparations, can we expect the same in terms of security at Rio?

According to reports and banners some public workers have been publicly displaying, the Brazilian government has fallen short of providing adequate pay to the people in charge of civil security (Cops and firemen mostly). It would appear, then, that I may have answered my own question. However, I'm willing to give the Brazilian government the benefit of the doubt, and say, maybe they are softening in respect to low-risk crime, whilst strengthening the anti-terrorist security? Perhaps? I wonder.

All I know is that I really don't want anyone to die from a terrorist attack during the Olympics. No one deserves to go through any of that shit because of a fucking retarded religion.

According to Brazilian news outlets, the recent arrests couldn't be made without the cooperation from international agencies. Also, the National Public Security Force agents who are providing security are unhappy due to their very poor lodging conditions and pay. Heaven help us if the terrorists actually try something with proper planning.

In short: Judging by recent reports? We are fucked

Gotta love how these woefully unprepared third world countries get selected for these events. Qatar for FIFA, Brazil for the Olympics. I guess it's because they're shameless enough to pull dirty tricks to get these events.

Brazil says terrorism isn't their main concern, meanwhile ISIS is claiming that they have"wolf packs" in place and ready.

Could be a bluff but my bet is it's real. Hopefully there are green berets /seals embedded with the US team.

They actually found a human arm floating in the bay back in february, IIRC.
