i dont like the new room system
before i could get around the stupidly large bedroom size requirements by putting an art station in the house for the artist, a sleeping area for my crafter into the workshop and so on, but now that designates the room and i lose efficiency

I have never played this game and probably wouldn't have the patience for it (kind of like Dwarf Fortress) but I liked this man's Rimworld videos.
I love the little bean people floating around, going about their business. It's all very charming. Also the above 5hr video in particular revolved around a highly intelligent cannibal running a drug lab in the middle of the arctic (he has to be a cannibal because the area's so harsh that visitors and raiders are the only food source), so that's interesting.

Is it because the game is too slow or is it because there's too many frustrating mechanics? This game is much faster than DF depending on what you're doing and a lot less frustrating.

i know i can just mod room requirements to be smaller, but i enjoyed building around the requirements, it made the base more interesting
ironically thats what the new room system was supposed to facilitate too, but it just doesnt work as good for me

Protip: Hidden Conduits, which were added in version 1.5, are invincible and cannot be short circuited, so if you only use hidden conduits for your colony you will never experience a ZZZTT event. (Edit: You also need to keep buildings that can be short circuited under a roof but you should already be doing that)
It also looks way better to have the conduits buried instead of running lines throughout your colony.

It does have its uses but most of the time it's just shit.
Should be rarer, but otherwise it's not too bad. Most of the time if you're suffering from short circuits it's your own fault due to putting electronics in the rain or you just don't have enough batteries (which also shouldn't be a big issue since you should send a pawn to fix it ASAP).

When you start a game, set a custom scenario. There's an option to disable any events you like.

flashstorm really never bothers me most of the time it happens pretty far from my base and sets some grass on fire and maybe kills a small animal. though i am currently playing in a arid shrubland so fire doesnt spread easily
