What a player! I don't know why I'm just hearing about this now.

Zaid & Shortround should compare notes.

It's no secret Zaid has been involved with two of the biggest players in high end comic book collecting and grading, Overstreet and The Certified Guaranty Company (CGC). What is secret, and probably just dumb nerd shit, is Zaid's motivation to associate with Waid. I highly doubt its "social justice" or "truth, justice, and the American way" bullshit they'd have you believe.

Maybe when it's all said and done and Waid loses, Zaid's master plan all along was to obtain some super rare comic books Waid owns. "Look Mark, I know losing stings and you're going to owe Mr. Meyer a lot of money, but tell you what. Here's a list of comic books in your collection I'd happily take in exchange for a certain amount of billable hours you owe me. Think it over..."

Zaid’s motivations are a total mystery, so far he’s done nothing favorable to Waid other than empty virtue signaling.

It really makes you think he’s just fucking with Waid, making him think he’s on his side and having some secret motivations for getting involved.

It gives off that impression at least, I’m pretty sure it’s just us falling into tinfoil hat territory because of Zaid’s odd behavior and seeing random dots to connect.

Fixed.

Anyway, Zaid having an ulterior motive for associating with Waid? Say it ain't so?
Not sure who is worse at this point: Zaid or Waid?

This comic book thing totally makes sense, tho. I've heard of lawyers doing shit like that more than once.
I can't believe it. He must've planned this so far ahead! He must've been eyeing some choice books, for a long time.
I wonder what the crown jewel of Waid's collection is?

Just saying we might be seeing connections that aren’t really there. It’s plausible though and something someone really into collecting would definitely do.

Excuse my 'tism, I didn't read the sarcasm properly first time around.

Zaid also owns a comic store or business that specializes in selling shit like Waid’s stuff to overfunded whales. I suspect Waid was one of his best (dumbest) customers.

So when Waid goes broke thanks to his shitty representation, he'll get a chance to buy back what he sold Waid for a song, essentially getting to keep the comics while having charged Waid a multiple of their value just to rent them for a while.

The dark powers of Disneys legal department looms over all of this. A shadow in the force if you will.

That’s my hypothesis in it all. He can even get extra as some of them are now splattered with the blood, tears and other substances of “Marvel’s Mark Waid” an icon of the industry.

Call me paranoid, but he seems the kind to have enough dirt on enough people in the industry to ensure he can afford the lawsuit.

My evidence? The fact he hasn't buckled yet. He has not one but two lawyers on his case, one of those lawyers is as exceptional as he is and way, WAY overpriced, and he got significantly less than Zach on his gofundme.

Only way this makes sense, is if someone is bankrolling him outside the gofundme, cause there is no way in hell Zeid is doing this pro bono.

You are forgetting someone who most likely is the biggest funder of Waid's legal team/hiring someone like Zaid: Grant fucking Morrison.

Morrison, who runs Heavy Metal Magazine, hired Waid for a cushy do nothing editorial post where he "scouts new talent"; IE do nothing but rake in a huge salary. Most likely this is how Waid really is funding the magazine: basically Morrison's paying his boy several grand a month to do nothing, money that goes directly to Zaid.

I also don't see any ulterior motive for Zaid defending Waid. Zaid's a figure in the comic scene legally, plus Zaid's a true blue Kool Aid Drinking Anti-Life zombie, so he probably believes Waid's lies and more than likely, agrees with Waid and his ilk in regards to the idea that the rules don't apply to the lunatic left in terms of them being allowed to break the law and do evil, so long as they are doing so to "stop bad guys".

No wonder Heavy Metal went to shit. Boneheaded decisions from on high. That mag used to be my jam.

Its hard to say with Zaid. Based on his other cases hes either legit nutty or he just sees an easy mark for either money or fame.

He likes easy jobs that will make him money and fame as is the case with Libya bombing case. And you can easily spin the nutty cases the same way. The Diana case got him fame and money. The UFO cases could have had wealthy backers and he got an article out of it. Suing governments doesnt come cheap. If Waid has a regular income then Zaid could be chasing this for both reasons. Zaid loves comics. Imagine being the champion of comics that defeated comicsgate. If he loses then hes probably not gonna worry about it.

That Libya bombing case where he was basically a 2nd stringer to the many other lawyers in the case...He's overblown his significance in that by putting himself forward as the main guy to do it on his website. The Fayed case where he basically takes his grief stricken billionaire client on a roller coaster costing him fuck knows how much in billable hours in which basically every allegation was thrown out minus negligence of the driver of the car. Was involved in some shady shit regarding clients of his who were whistleblowers, ratting them out to the feds. There is enough shit to suggest he's bent.

or a conman who sees an easy mark and saves his own skin.

BTW do we know who those whistleblowers are? Id love to see Rackets do an interview with them.

I've been mentally worrying on this for a while, and I think I might have realized what deal Weid and Zeid made.

To start, I highly doubt Weid would put up his comics willingly as collateral. The man is a complete manbaby, and the idea of sharing is foreign to this man, let alone giving away anything valuable. So, he'd either need to be tricked or coerced.

Coercion is... off the table here. No way would he keep quiet about that. So, tricked?

Zeid: "You have a strong case since this is totally frivolous, but I will need to be paid."
Weid: "I don't have that kind of cash lying around though...."
Zeid: "Well. we can always counter sue for such a frivolous lawsuit, but I'll need collateral to make it look above board.
Weid: "Well, I bought several comics from you, and I have a few rare things. We can pretend those are up if anyone asks..."

Something like this is what I suspect is going on. Would track with both parties personalities, the legal... history of Zeid, would explain why Zeid is being so exceptional so frequently, and would be a much better use of okhams razor to explain how Weid can afford this.

Two questions to any lawyers for my hypothetical speculation above:
1: Just HOW unethical would this be?
and 2: Would this have any effect on a settlement or judgment for Zach?

It'd be a shame if Morrison is tied to any of this considering I really like his work but I know how to separate art from the artist. Though from what I've seen of the guy, I imagine any attachment is due to them both being silver age fanboys rather than any "SJW kool-aid". I recall some interview where Morrison gave an amusing answer to some reporter trying to bait him into some self-flagellation about diversity where he had a slightly annoyed stare before saying "some people are harder to love than others".

Disbarment. Lying to a client in order to secure fee or other goods from them is fraud, full stop.

The American Bar Association said:
Rule 8.4: Misconduct
......
(b) commit a criminal act that reflects adversely on the lawyer's honesty, trustworthiness or fitness as a lawyer in other respects;

(c) engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation;
