No chance on the arcade version. I just tried, died for the first time on 9, game overed on 14. :stress:
You can get the candies by blowing, popping and jump on bubbles respectively, I usually manage to get all 3 by the end of stage 6-7, it makes later levels much better.
I find it quite amusing how no item reward in that game is randomized.

Edit: I'm rusty, got only up to stage 13 before dying.

because "erm actually Mario World is more retro than Dark Souls" and feel free to forget that Pacman is much more retro than Mario World. Just don't call them classics, most old games are shit, even if the proportion was much better.
SPONGEBOB HAS BETTER ERA MANAGEMENT, PRE-MOVIE, POST MOVIE.
why the fuck do I get sassy FAT black woman responses for wanting CLASSIC games to have the same standard as SPONGEBOB
Because people won't buy them otherwise.
I'll remind you, this is a 15+ year old budget DS game that was sold at the same price, and people still showed up to buy it

if the game can still stand on its own with no changes beyond hardware shit, that's classic, see? it's even in the description
classic games don't need to be remade, that shit is timeless. a lot of games from the PS3/360 era don't need to be remade for people to buy it.
Revengence comes to mind you don't need to remake it for people to buy it on new systems

I'm really sorry but I can't take anything you say seriously with this avatar
anyone with a puar in the name is basically screaming "I HAVE BROWN THOUGHTS IGNORE ME"
it's my fault for treating him like a dog.

fucking dragon ball fans

Did they? I thought this release didn't do so well.
it's at most like 5 guys doing bare minimum quality of life shit, and it's a visual Novel with puzzles.
I wouldn't be surprised if the budget was a sandwich and some coffee.

Overall I agree with you, however..

And I loved both the original and bought the "remaster" and I think the animations worked better on the pixelated screen. I know you're gonna dive into the semantics of "what's a remake/remaster/upscale/port/whatever"

Eh, it depends. I can think of at least a few games that, while fun, are flawed enough that they did need a remake to iron out their quirks. Like the Triforce quest from Wind Waker, or Dragon Quest 2’s endgame, or Pokemon RBY’s balancing and glitches. Hell, even the ability to save in Mario 1-3 makes the games infinitely better (though it really does nothing to help Lost Levels).

Your criteria for determining whether something is retro or not is based on the cutoff point of what other people are willing to buy? Why would you define a technical term on the arbitrary tastes of people who don't even like the medium to begin with?

What are you even talking about? Why should anyone consider retro to be a technical term? How is retro a medium? Obviously, when you're talking about a customary term like retro, the criteria needs to determined by the reason of the thing, which is entirely that normies are not interested in it because of the age. How is this so difficult for you to understand?

Isn't this exactly what you're trying to do by trumpeting some autistically specific standard of "People won't buy it unless its remade" that only exists in your head?

The concept of retro exists outside of the gaming space and essentially just means something from recent history that people are nostalgic for. For example, there are 50s retro diners, there are retro 90s dance parties, there are retro 80s movie marathons on TV, and there are retro radio stations that now try to ape the Morning Zoo format popular from the 80s - early 2000s and play music from those eras. If there is a critical mass of people who experienced something in their younger years that they are nostalgic for, they are going to consider it retro. There is no point in trying to gatekeep it. There are 18 & 19 year olds who are fucking as we speak who consider PS4 retro because it's from their childhood and they're nostalgic for it, and I'm not about to tell them they're wrong.

Oh god, you’re gonna make me create a “Retro Is A Quale” t-shirt, aren’t you?

I understand that this is just a generic insult, but you really ought to think before you speak. My criterion is neither autistic nor very specific. It's a vague criterion that is used by billion dollar corporations when considering whether their old games are old enough to need a makeover. Of course, PS4 games will be retro soon, and this could not happen unless people began to think that they are retro, contrary to people who want to gatekeep the idea of retro to some specific era of videogames. Also, like I said before, retro does not refer to "old things that people care about," it's the opposite: "old things that people don't care about because fashion moves ever onward." It used to be the case that everyone wanted to wear apple bottom jeans, but nobody wants to wear them anymore, so if you do, "that's so retro."

All this post is doing is confirming my initial assessment to be accurate.

Would you like to explain to the class?
Sure, autistic people show rigidity in their thinking and tend to try to apply rules to everything. They often don't understand when something is more based on feelings or "vibes" as the kids say these days, and will try to use rules to explain things that don't really have any.

Would you like to explain to me how you derived any of that from what I said? It would be epic.

I really enjoy watching Nerrel's videos even though I personally don't wanna play a lot of his favourite games because of a difference in taste. In the past I have seen him talking about PC N64 ports thought the idea seemed pretty cool.

But I finally saw Majora's Mask PC Port in action the other day from a Saint Riot stream and I was absolutely blown away by how good the game looks. Obviously its not a 2020s AAA game level of fidelity but it is vastly superior to the original. I was already mildly impressed by it, then I realised my video quality had been lowered to 480P and fixed it to 1080 and I was shocked. Some features from MM Port: high quality yet faithful textures for items characters and UI, gameplay enhancements including extra item buttons, reworked camera system in line with modern controls, higher FPS and higher display resolution.

Meanwhile Nintendog want £50 for the original ROM with no changes. Maybe some texture filtering if they are feeling generous.
