I think the worst sin of the RE4 remake is coming out in the current year. Any faggot on youtube has the audacity to think their 3 hour "video essay" matters in the great scheme of things. That goes for all games really, like if Capcom is preocupied that the one little detail your autistic ass pointed out at 2:38:32 where a pixel was out of place is going to make a difference.

If the RE1 remake came out today there would still be people bitching about the smallest of things and how great the original was. The problem with 4 is that it had an uphill battle from the start trying to live up to the original. The RE1 remake blows the original out of the water so spectacularly its doesn't even matter discussion, the remake is pretty much accepted as the best way to play RE1 by far.

I don't think that was ever going to happen with 4, the gap between RE1 and the original is the Great Canyon but the one between 4 and the remake is more like the gap you have to keep in mind when boarding the subway or a train. The good thing with 4 is that the original with the HD reconstruction patch, the best way to play it imo, is still there on steam, right next to the remake.

And yes I played 1 when it came out (the ps1 version not the gc remake) and I pretty much erased it from my mind when 2 came out, I never thought about 1 or its plot until the remake, while 2 stayed as one of my favorites until its remake came out and blew it out of the water too. Even with 4, if you're old enough and read the Gamespot forums back in the day, you'll remember that even back then some people bitched about it saying that it strayed too far from the original. In fact, its funny to remember that people bitched about Silent Hill 2 when it came out too, even with Silent hill 3 saying the formula have gotten stale. People bitched about Majora's Mask saying it was too weird and different from Ocarina. This is to say that this "new game bad old game good" bandwagon shit from people who I'm pretty sure haven't played the originals themselves while saying everyone else hasn't is nothing new.

I know its almost inconceivable to the average zoomer but those game that are considered masterpieces now still had their share of retards criticizing pixels that were out of place in 2004, is just that the people doing it now are x10 times more embarrasing. I get it RE4 remake isn't perfect but its almost like if people attached their worth as a person to a fucking game of all things, be it to praise it or to shit on it.

I actually like the Ganados too. But yeah firearm sounds (& animations) definitely suffered a lot in a way. I'm mixed on the rain, but I like the OG a bit more.

The Ashley breathing needs to be patched tho. It's not even hot panting after a while, it's like an asthmatic pug. I'm also mixed on Ashley herself, I like the new one, but I also like the old one in a way.

The gun animations are great, honestly, they're competing with Insurgency Sandstorm and nu-Call of Duty for how realistically animated they are. It's going to be impossible to beat some of the legendary reload animations from the original like the bolt action rifle or Broken Butterfly but all the pistols, the striker and the riot gun are also really fun to watch in the remake. One thing I don't see get praised often is how genuinely insane Leon's animations are. Bouncing off of walls naturally when running into them, limping for a few seconds after getting caught in a bear trap, checking the ammo of his gun when pulling them out occasionally, wiping his face after winning a fight, etc.

The gun animations are great, honestly, they're competing with Insurgency Sandstorm and nu-Call of Duty for how realistically animated they are. I think the realism might be my issue, I prefer the cool reloads from OG, things like Rifle reloads lacking the en-bloc clip (making it slower than OG to reload), the Revolvers lacking the badass ejects, Chicago Typewriter actually needing to be reloaded (I do like the animation tho). Same with the sounds, there's a lack of power & punchyness in them. That said, I do prefer shooting while moving tho, genuinely an upgrade I wish was in the OG.

From a technological standpoint the remake is obviously great in many aspects. It's the art direction that feels a bit lackluster compared to the OG, same sound design in many areas (OST, Sound SFX, etc.), The soul is mainly about these things. These said technological standpoints leading to those those added animations, couter with the fact that there are some animations cut from the game. I feel like if Capcom, instead of cutting down, added more alongside it, there wouldn't be much to call out.

IIRC, & I could be wrong on this. The Remake gun sounds not being as good could is because it uses stock sounds, while the OG had the sound designer Yoshihiko Wada (not to be confused with the painter. He also didn't work on the remake, Hiroshi Tamura does) & Soundelux Design Music Group (worked with Capcom & Platinum, sadly went bankrupt in 2014) being too dedicated to his job. He actually recorded the guns referenced with IRL guns, he was so dedicated that there's 2 distinct sounds for Leon's walk/run, both for his left & right foot.

I could be wrong about the remake stock sounds part tho.

REmake still remains unchallenged as the best gaming remake ever, but 4make is worthy being in that conversation. Does it replace the original like REmake did? No. The original is still incredibly valid, isn't really dated at all and has aspects that are still better than the remake. But 4make is a breath of fresh air in a world of dogshit remakes for years now. The issues I have with it is a short list, but the things that bug me aren't enjoyment ruining. I would like U3 not being removed but that may appear as a Seperate Ways boss, although they changed the lore of the Plagas so it may be U-4 now.

I'm doing my first casual playthrough since grinding for S+. I have it on Hardcore since Pro is meme levels of difficult and I can't just enjoy it. They did a great job with the game world. The geography is very sound how it operates almost like a sandbox except it's linear. How when you're crossing the bridge to the Castle, you can see the boat dock you get to after beating Del Lago. The castle outside structure feels very thought out and coherent where as the original had nonsense walls to feel empty outside spaces. 4make has great spatial orientation. I love autistic shit like that, especially a game that's supposed to be one I grew up with. Even Island has that shit too when you first start on the rocks and you can get a full view of the mountain leading up to the last elevator.

I will say between the original and the remake, the remake is harder. But much of that is from the sloppy mechanics.

If you really want to pay for it, wait for a sale and try to get it with the classic soundtrack. Seriously, if there is something that these remakes and new games never get right, is the soundtrack.

The best compliment I could give to the game is that its was relaxing at times. That's not a very good one considering we're talking about Resident Evil.

Finally, I would rather have Sandy Cheeks screeching at me from a mile away than having a literal Onlyfans whore get pasted to my back. Coomers ruin everything.
