So I'm at the castle and really enjoying it. Is it better than the original? Not really but it has the thoughest job being the remake of what is basically the most acclaimed game in the series. You could argue that 1 or 2 are probably the better remakes but its also because their original versions have "aged" the worst, specially 1. RE4 on the other hand its still the best RE imo so this remake has an uphill battl, but I'm enjoying it for what it is.

This being gayming in 2023 means that we won't get mercenaries until april and I would bet actual money in how they're only going to give us Leon, Ada and maybe Krauser, the rest is going to be fuck you the characters are probably already in the game but you're going to let us spit in your mouth and pay us 10 bucks for Hunk.

I'm currently watching Snythetic Man's stream. The knife now being breakable is more full of fail and AIDS than a gay krokodil addict.

Ashley for mercenaries!

What fucking game did you play?
Nigger, you have to be kidding. Out of all the remakes you could have mentioned FFVII is not something you could have picked.

They really changed Wesker's voice actor, that's fucked. D.C Douglass gave so much personality and charm to the character, he was perfect.

Also gotta love those consumers in the YT comments going "oh yasss RE5 Remake hype baybeeeee"

Seriously, fuck these people.

Look when I play a remake I want a REMAKE. I want a highlight real of the good shit mixed with new plot and gameplay. It's like how mister x went from being a mid boss to being the big bad in Re2.

Granted ff7 goes off the rails a lot, because more then one character has already experienced the events of the original, but It gave me everything I wanted for nostalgia while adding an exciting divergence in the narrative towards the end.

Also D.C Douglas is a piece of trash who had it coming.

I remember Lot of petty kick vic twitter spats he inserted himself into, but even excluding that he recorded himself in the women's bathroom listening to someone take a shit. Had a whole fucking manifesto too about why it was ok to touch fan girl boobs and some other raunchy crap. That he got fired over leaking info ( and lying about it) is the cherry on top.

Re5 remake would be kinda cool. They'd actually have to innovate, and besides Wesker, the lickers and the cultural enrichment, I thought the setpieces where rather forgettable.

if they go with the original drafts of re5? I'm here for it.
that'd be the only reason to do a remake, but then the question is if Chris will be solo or there'll be co-op. they've been very averse to any actual networking in mainline RE games lately, and have only done so with their pre-failed async multiplayer slop that nobody plays and nobody ever asked for. i still think about the one conceptual event in the original RE5 ideas where Chris has to handle a room full of explosive barrels so one stray shot and it's game over.

The only thing I was disappointed was the Chief Menendez Boss fight cutscene. The fight is ok but in the cutscene after one grenade he is already mutated. Would’ve been cool to see that like in the original. Also when you beat him his eye doesn’t grossly pop out of his skull in the remake.
But I had a blast at my bros house. Definitely going to buy it for myself.
Mendez was a bit too easy. It may be because my weapons were mostly upgraded though, but he mutated after just some shots from the riot gun.
It's the same guy who voices Wesker in DBD. Instead of trying to bring something new to the table in terms of Wesker's voice, he just did a lackluster version of Douglass' performance. Wesker's voice has always been very all over the place, so this is one of the few characters that Capcom could have given a new voice to!

why
The voice for nu-Wesker is extremely bad. Now that I think about it, I want D.C. Dumbass back.

NuWesker's still not as bad as Ada or Krauser though. Stale, yes, but goddam Adas so fucking bad, Krauser is over the top to the point of parody. I feel sorry for the voice actor on that one, it sounds like they hired him to imitate Wolverine from the old x-men cartoon series, but also is gay for Leon to kill him for some reason.

I really got no clue what the fuck they were thinking. Odd dialogue from the original aside, the character had an aura of mystery about him and never said too much about himself. Probably because they never had much planned for him outside of this one game.

Now+ he never shuts up about Leon being a rookie, power, and failing the training and all that silly shit. Its very

So far I’m having fun. Just got to our favorite merchant.

I didn't love RE7 but it at least went back to the classic formula and had its own identity
It’s identity being “This wasn’t a Resident Evil game until we tacked off brand Chris onto the end and slapped Resident Evil on the cover.”
Also no, it didn’t go back to anything.

this is what i've always said in regards to RE7 too. RE7 was isolated from the franchise's world outside of a few references to shit like Alyssa from outbreak or, as you've noted, an angry gun man stealing Chris Redfield's identity showing up at the end with 'Blue Umbrella'. there was no attempt made to build the brand or expand the RE-verse, but capcom sure loved wasting everyone's time with the retarded paranormal demo that had absolutely nothing, whatsoever, to do with the game, because i guess the ARG autism was in full swing still. and then there's all the hyper conspiracy shit that never gets answered, tackled, or covered ('The Connections', which is somehow more underdeveloped and fucking pointless than Simmons's Family in RE6, aka the illuminutty) and then there's swamp hobo saving his fam'ly with a power glove. in another title that could have been memorable, but it's not endearing in a game that could have spawned another successful and innovative trilogy of games instead of playing peekaboo with Jigsaw's favorite Ethan Winters.
That really what happened? I can believe it if true.
before all the dlc, this was the sole thread connecting RE7 to the series. he appears at the ending, for only a few seconds.

subtle, near-obscure references like seeing a paper written by Alyssa Ashcroft aren't good enough.

The worst thing I can say about REMake 4 is that the voice acting can feel flat flat. Ada Wong's VA is so incredibly bad it's amazing they let it slide. Still this game is pretty much everything I loved about Resident Evil 4. The combat just feels really good and like everything on the RE Engine it's just a good looking game. What I hope the future entries strive on:
>Good enemy design. More Ganados and disgusting zombies. Less generic mold monsters
>Game design gives gives the feeling of encouraging player freedom/creativity. Either give me lots of weapons to mess with or multifaceted levels that feel rewarding to backtrack through

Just please Capcom never go open world. I love Resident Evil because it feels focused. If they ever want to do Open World revive Dead Rising.

The video game outlet has already produced four different articles praising that gamers could no longer “up-skirt” Ashley. In the original Resident Evil 4, Ashley would berate Leon for it, including if it was only from Leon’s perspective and not the game’s camera.

The Gamer’s James Troughton called those who got mad over the change “idiots” when reporting on the censorship. Author Stacey Henley defied “Ashley’s Underwear In Resident Evil Is Not Censorship,” and that “angry gamers” had “bastardized” the term censorship.

Similarly, writer Jade King wrote how “Resident Evil 4 No Longer Sexualising Its Women Is A Good Thing,” insisting Ashley “dotes on Leon like a wide-eyed, weirdly horny puppy” in the original game. Comparatively, Ada Wong’s form-fitting jumper and arguably chest-emphasizing harness is championed as “incredible and practicable.”
This is followed by how female characters can look “sexy, dominant, and powerful without falling victim to the male gaze or giving away her confidence in service of sexualisation.”

Tessa Kaur also attempted to convince readers that “Not Being Able To Look Up Characters’ Skirts Is A Win,” on the same day King’s editorial was published. Kaur asks, “When will gamers stop feeling entitled to creepshot female characters?”

“I’m not sure why gamers feel the need to look up the skirts of animated female characters, just to get their rocks off,” Kaur mocks. “The reaction to remasters or remakes covering up characters’ panties is usually that this is ‘woke PC bullshit’ or ‘censorship’, and that they’re taking a crucial part of the game’s appeal away.”
“It’s incredibly weird that people feel entitled to creepshot women and young girls in video games, just because ‘nobody real is getting hurt,'” she added.

“I generally believe that it’s bad to look up skirts, both in games and in real life,” she declared, arguing that it is bad for game developers to include such mechanics. She also objected it being rewarded via achievements, as in Lollipop Chainsaw, Nier: Automata, and Nier Replicant (the latter also undermining Kainé’s story and character arc).

Along with rejecting players needing to get an up-skirt to get all a game’s achievements, Kaur claims it’s “an indicator of a larger pattern of misogyny in gaming, in that even when women are written well, they’re sexualised and dehumanised – you, as a player, are rewarded for making a woman uncomfortable over and over again.”

“This is behaviour that, I’m sure we all agree, should be discouraged, and not incentivised.”

“What is added by giving players the ability to do this, especially while adding in the expressed discomfort of the characters? Why do players want to do this at all?” Kaur implores. “Yes, they’re just characters, but it adds nothing to the games, and instead reflects and potentially encourages misogynistic behaviour in real life.”

Despite wildly claiming sexual content in video games can cause misogyny, this was disproven in a 2022 study from the journal Computers in Human Behavior. Specifically, the study found that “sexualization in games was neither related to well-being/body dissatisfaction nor sexism/misogyny.”

“These games are created by men, the female characters are heavily sexualised for men, and their discomfort is a gag, for men,” Kaur asserts. “I’m glad that developers are starting to remove this from remasters of old games, but Nier: Automata and the Nier Replicant remaster came out relatively recently.”

“Perhaps it’s time for us all to stop being weird when developers choose to stop unnecessarily sexualising their female characters, and be grateful that this is a pattern that’s being stopped,” Kaur concludes.

Vara Dark denounced The Gamer’s editorials in her YouTube video, opening with how “Game journalists love to support things that hurt the industry, like censorship.” Along with advocating for creative freedom, Vara argues a remake, like Resident Evil 4, should be as close to the original as possible while being remade, and that any removal is going to upset people.

She also disagrees that keeping the up-skirt was purely so gamers could “get their rocks off,” as it is, instead, a form of appreciation and respect for the content the developers put in the original game. She further claimed Kaur didn’t care, as she was was willing to “play a part in the destruction of this industry.”

Vara also defies Kaur’s attempt to deceive readers by using the term “young girls”— almost implying they are underage, when Ashley is 20. This is despite King, Henley, and Troughton mentioning so in their articles.

King claims “the most dominant fan conversation surrounding her personality concerns her being a teenager in over her head,” while Troughton declares she is “teenage-coded.” Juliet from Lollipop Chainsaw is 18, while 2B from Nier: Automata has the appearance of a young woman, but being an android is technically only a few years old.

Vara challenges Kaur’s lack of scientific citation on the claim that up-skirts in video games will result in real-life misogyny, deeming it just as flawed as journalist’s past attempts to push the claim video game violence caused real-life violence.

“Sexual [content], in fictional games, with fictional characters, does not cause misogyny,” Vara proclaims. “Looking up skirts is a comedic trope that’s been in anime and Japanese video games for a long time, and they even admit that at the beginning of the article! No matter how hard these people try and pretend and convince you it’s harmful, this isn’t real life, and it isn’t harmful to any real person.”

Along with doubting its erasure would prevent such incidents occurring in real life, Vara believes “it’s part of this larger plan to desexualize characters, which is part of the grand ‘modern-day’ message.” She notes a trend where remakes being censored are backed by publishers or developers citing a need to update the game for “modern audiences”— as Resident Evil 4 VR did.

Vara also took a similar swipe at Henley’s article, brushing aside King’s as merely reiterating Kaur’s work. She opposes Henley’s editorial, avowing once again than the change is censorship, and noting that the game being a remake doesn’t justify it. She also mocks The Gamer finding objecting to fan-service over gore and violence, and their demands for female empowerment contradicted by puritan desires to “cover” women.

I remember days ago people in this thread were seething because the dog you rescue in the og was dead and full of maggots. Turns out the dog is still fucking alive and helps you against El Gigante, fucking identical to the original game.

People are trying to find the most ridiculous excuses to hate on a game that's just really fun to play.

I can't believe people were shitting and pissing their pants about this for over a year, the game is fine. Its not REmake1 but nothing is, and holding everything to that standard is retarded because no one involved is with the company anymore or in a meaningful development position there. This game has not been worth making the same posts whining for over a year.

I'm guessing infinite durability knife is only a new game + option? I thought it might be the final upgrade but someone in Synthman's stream chat said the exclusive knife upgrade is 1.25% attack speed.

If they did RE5make with the original intended ideas (the desert being a threat in itself, hallucinations, etc) thatd be really damn interesting

Not looking forward to NuSheva though
nu-sheva would just be a saints row character.

Have you actually played the original? The remake plays significantly better and is following dead space's lead this time around. No autistic tank turret aiming controls like the original had. It now plays very similarly to Dead space with some RE8 autism added in. Hunnigan doesn't have constant codec calls anymore either and is more like a RIG popup.

10 bucks in 2023 is generous. They will probably hike it up to 30 and add a "season pass" consisting of a pissant excuse of 1 map every 3 months. No easter eggs, no unlockables , no replay value. The redditors will eat that shit up with their battered gaymer syndrome bullshit.

I’m nearly at the end of the castle and the knife’s durability hasn’t meant dick so far. Git gud with the bolt caster and doing stealth kills and you’ve basically got infinite ammo outside of set pieces where a load of enemies come at you at once. But even then I’ve never felt like I’ve been unfairly left without a means to survive, just the good old heightened tension and wave of relief after gunning down the last sprouty head dude lurching at me.

It’s a really solid remake, favourite part so far was the expanded lake area. Glad I’m playing on the hard setting like the game suggests if you’ve played the original because I can imagine being bored and steamrolling on something lower.
