I really wanted to hate this. I really did, but I can't.

Five hours in, just beat Del Lago.

Cutscenes aren't pre rendered, so it was a treat seeing Leon in the villain outfit in the back of the cop car with Wesker Shades.

Combat is great, this 5 hours I've had infinite more joy than re3 make.

I'm playing on hard, the suggested difficulty. It literally says pick this if you've played RE4. Prices are higher and enemies are smarter. Feels good.

Everything that they changed, for the most part has been good. You can't cheese the village fight by hiding in the tower or the one room, Big Cheese is absolutely menacing.

I'm liking it.
How is the Del Lago fight? Does it have the same gimmick? I was a little worried that they’d change the tense Jaws-like music.

Just tell me if Salzar's right hand comes off in this one too and also if the fight is as tense as the og

The Del Lago fight is pretty much unchanged, except for the ending. There's no QTE of having to cut the rope, instead something entirely different.

Cutscenes are relatively the same, but dialog is changed to reflect the tone. Don't worry everyone, they kept the piss Cutscene from the original.

Oh yeah, cheesy dialog is still in, but regarded to achievements. Killing Verdugo gives you the "Your right hand comes off?"

Knight and gangster outfits are included, too.

Not to old fag or hipster, but I feel like one anymore; and I think part of it is how quickly "communities" will astro-turf shit. Yeah Resident Evil 4 is a great game, it was truly a "game changing experience" back in 2003 or whenever it was... And people will question my refusal to fellate something I experienced 20 years ago.

I was there when it was revolutionary. It's nothing new, a fresher coat of paint and some rework; but Ashley still needs to be saved, Krauser still wants to stab Leon, and it's not gonna have the same impact like it did when I was 20 years younger.

And I will play it, I'll probably even enjoy it... But I'm not gonna get all fluttery, because the game I love is on the GameCube (and everything since). Everyone else is having, something like nostalgia glasses, and that's if they even played the original (in any form).

See this is a why I love ff7 remake. It keeps all the stuff you love but changes enough to keep it actually interesting. Here? Its just the same dam dog and pony show.

I hope the comically overpowered Chicago typewriter and laser cannon are in this game. Laser cannon probably isn't since they seem to be intent on stripping out any goofy elements.

if you have any questions about the remake, I'll ask you quote/ reply to this and I'll reply whenever.
The main thing I want to ask is how "woke" it is. eg. Has anyone's personality been changed to fit "the message"? Is there any out of place wokeshit, etc.

Everyone else is having, something like nostalgia glasses, and that's if they even played the original (in any form).
It's more of an anti-nostalgia, which is what makes it confusing.

I'm having an anti-honeymoon phase.

Everyone's falling head over heels for it so far but I just... Can't! It's not like I vehemently hate it either. My excitement dropped off last month and cannot bring myself to download it.

Playing the demo in my potato PC - can't hit shit, literal tank control, i hate not having a dedicate running button, Leon looks like a crack user. Probably skill issue of my part, but i playing RE2 (PS1) this week in my cellphone and having a better time with it.

So, I guess the closest thing I can say is there's one thing missing.
On the way to the village, you can see a woman who's been impaled and Leon says "guess they don't discriminate here"
I could say that counts, but that's the most I've seen. Take it with a grain of salt, I'm only 5 hours in.

The only thing I was disappointed was the Chief Menendez Boss fight cutscene. The fight is ok but in the cutscene after one grenade he is already mutated. Would’ve been cool to see that like in the original. Also when you beat him his eye doesn’t grossly pop out of his skull in the remake.
But I had a blast at my bros house. Definitely going to buy it for myself.

This remake really stinks. Considering how they said they were gonna tone things down from the originally they sure found ways to make things worse on the story script. Krausers change in character and voice acting are hilariously stupid, Ada sounds like a block of wood and has been retconned to be more of a good guy, Luis is now a stupid comic relief sidekick, The Wesker scene at the end with the new voice actor and character model feel....stale.

Its weird how so much work and effort got put into the gameplay, but the music, pacing, cutscenes and characters feel worse than the original game. I didn't have any real expectations for the game and opted to watch people play it and the cutscenes and couldn't get through it. its weird but this game doesn't feel as engaging as the original in the cutscenes. It feels like you're watching a video game, where as the original during the cutscenes you felt like you were watching a movie with obnoxious quicktime events.

Even with some of the new additions I liked, the parry system is overpowered but a nice addition, the instakills on downed enemy's are welcome, I liked Krausers new monster design(but god did I want him to shut the fuck up), the Giants new design, the spider Plagas new feature where it latches onto Ganado's and controls them.

The game feels manufactured and artificial as hell. Its strange how the original felt natural as a finished product where as this game which has photorealistic graphics and more features feels contrived, sterile, and bland. But then again all the remakes and recent games the devs have made have been pretty fucking terrible. I didn't love RE7 but it at least went back to the classic formula and had its own identity, all these remakes feel like retcons designed to help create a new narrative so the producers can still use Umbrella, Wesker, and Spencer for future games because the series has no direction to go without any of these entities. Just my thoughts, I've learned whenever I see that spherehutner tranny on youtube love something its usually shit.

Nigger, you have to be kidding. Out of all the remakes you could have mentioned FFVII is not something you could have picked.

They really changed Wesker's voice actor, that's fucked. D.C Douglass gave so much personality and charm to the character, he was perfect.

Also gotta love those consumers in the YT comments going "oh yasss RE5 Remake hype baybeeeee"

Seriously, fuck these people.

It's the same guy who voices Wesker in DBD. Instead of trying to bring something new to the table in terms of Wesker's voice, he just did a lackluster version of Douglass' performance. Wesker's voice has always been very all over the place, so this is one of the few characters that Capcom could have given a new voice to!

why

the re4make voice for Ada is so unsexy and the performance is absent any sultry mystique that even when there's moments between her and Leon it feels alien. i say this as a fan since 1998. but tbh Krauser's character is the most raped and burned in this game lol. the worst part about all the bosses is they're all talking too much. mendez shouldn't be speaking at all. salazar makes sense being a whingy midge, but Krauser's... god damn.

^ Exactly. Had to mention this on Steam forums as well. The bosses don't keep quiet so it destroy's the serene and formidable quality about them and also humanizes their monstrous form.

Also, the scene with Mendez in the original had way more urgency in how the battle escalates. It's funny how he rambles on about religion now, even after he's transformed. That was Saddler's charade. But he also rambles on and on in the final battle.

Call me a retard, I enjoy 5. It's the most fun I've had with a coop game when I played with my brother, if they just do the re2/re4 treatment to it, I'm fine, if they go with the original drafts of re5? I'm here for it.
