  • Predictable story line yet badly written.
  • 3rd person camera gameplay. Similar with Resident Evil 6 minus CQB moves.
  • The Duke is now resides as an evil guy.
  • Main character beats the enemy with superpower, sort of.
  • Young Eveline has returned, and even more annoying than before.
  • Mother Miranda somehow survived from the blast explosion from RE: Village. Thus the jihad Ethan Winter did was a fuck all waste of effort.
  • SCP-173 tier enemy appears in the game in an extremely small rooms. Not just one, but two, but there are thREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE of them.
  • None of the gameplay looks entertaining at slightest, let alone the story.
  • Dad Ethan returns and had a hug moment with his daughter for first and probably last time except he will not come back from death. His face is still blocked on screen for some fucking reason. (Note: His face can be seen on RE Wiki via Gallery in Art Concept section).

tl;dr was very painful and tiring to watch
I wish Lady Di would return. I wanted an expansion exploring more of her character, like they did with the early access of the servant girl in a definite nod to Countess Bathory. As she was the breakout character in RE:V, my hope is that she'll be utilized more in the future.

Hoping the same. Lady Di stole the show in RE: Village.

My personal guess is that the RE4 remake won't be fully intact but it'll have way more kept in than RE3's remake and probably a bit more than the RE2 remake.

Capcom knows people were pissed about the RE3 remake's brevity and unlike RE2, where the original game hadn't been easily available on current systems AND you had the mystique of it being a long-awaited remake finally coming to life, RE4 has been easily available on current-gen and next-gen platforms consistently since the PS2 port, it's Capcom's equivalent of Skyrim or GTA V. So they are going to be a bit more careful.

This is all just conjecture on my part, so take it with a grain of salt but here's what I personally think's gonna be cut...

1. Assignment Ada. Despite it being one of the OG minigames for RE4 since the Gamecube, it's not tied into the main storyline like Separate Ways is, nor is it as iconic as The Mercenaries. While RE3 remake got Mercenaries cut despite being where the Mercenaries minigame started, that game was a clusterfuck and I still suspect it was originally going to be a story DLC for RE2 that was supposed to be just the SparkNotes version of the original RE3 before they spun it off into its own game.

2. The fork in the road after the iconic farmhouse stand-off, though I think they'll cut out the El Gigante part and keep the Bella Sisters since it's slightly longer and we already have another El Gigante fight prior to this.

3. The majority of the QTE's will be cut, save for the really big ones that still hold up like the first Krauser fight. I'm 50/50 on whether or not they will cut out the laser room since it was well-known but it was also one of the goofier elements of RE4, and I think this remake is trying to go for a more somber grimdark feel overall.

4. Relating to the previous point, the infamous Salazar Statue chase near the end of the Castle will likely be cut and is the most likely of all the QTE's to get removed.

5. The extra costumes will be different. I might see them let Leon keep his RE2 outfit and the Mafioso outfit but I don't think we'll see Ashley in knight's armor or dressed like a popstar.

6. The village and the castle will have the most intact in the story mode and the Island will probably have the most alterations since it's often seen as the weakest part. The really big moments on the island like Oven Man, the Regenerators, the boss fights, and maybe Mike's helicopter raid will be kept around in some form but the rest is up for grabs, IMHO.

It's just not realistic to think it'll be a 1:1 remake. They've shown twice they're not interested in giving games move dev time to make it complete. Although there's no indication 3make was going to be anything more than what we were given. It's better to expect it at this point and be surprised. I'll buy it and give it a chance. I know it'll be better than 3make, but even from what they've shown I'm not crazy about it and with how many times the game has been release and you can download the HD project for free, it feels very redundant.

The Island is the weakest part of the game since it's just not interesting, but it's not from lack of content. It has no atmosphere or character like the village and castle. I've always felt the castle should've been the conclusion. Although, the mines are very important to the plot even though I don't enjoy that area.

As for your points. If Assignment Ada is in it, it'll be DLC. I wouldn't doubt it's not even in it at all honestly. Both RE2-3 didn't get post game content worth even messing with.

The fork I feel like they'll cut one side of that and make it more linear. Which way that goes is anyone's guess. Personally I always do both whenever I play it.

I feel like the laser hall will make a return since it's become such a meme. Although I definitely see them trimming down or removing the QTE fight with Krauser.

The statue will get removed. And honestly it's probably the biggest cringe nonsense in the original since it's really out there and cheesy.

I think his RE2R outfit will be in there. It's using the same engine so I wouldn't doubt they just repurpose the existing skin and upscale it a bit.

In a perfect world, the Island will have all the excess fat cut from it and give it better pacing. That was always my issue with it. It's not a slog but there's areas that I just don't like. Like the first half of getting with Ashley up to the wrecking ball area I hate.

Everyone has their fears of cut areas, but I'm more concerned with cut enemy types which seems like it would be the first content that would be on the chopping block. Will there be three types of head parasites like the original? I don't think it would be game breaking stuff but stuff that'll irritate you in repeated playthroughs.

Mercs has to be in it since it's such an integral part of the RE4 love people have for it and since coomer DC Douglas leaked the Wesker artwork.

Shadows of Rose was so pointless, the mannequins and dolls were kind of creepy, but it adds nothing interesting story wise and no new locales, just remixes of already existing assets from 8 (to comical degrees at some points) and they really went through such straining believability reason to bring back Miranda and Ethan but not fucking Lady D? WHAT was the point of making DLC? (I mean I guess she's in Mercenaries, big whoop)

If this is all they wind up using Rose for it feels like a big waste and definitely feels like it was originally intended for a lot more, bit worried about the future of the series now, we'll see of RE4R turns out.

I was saying RE8 needed an Ada DLC instead. It would’ve been simple but who the hell cares about Rose?
I have no interest in ever playing RE8 but that Ada concept art did make me interested. Keeping her in tune with RE2R is appealing since facial consistency is something RE hasn't had in a really long time. I'm good with just a general flavor of a character's face and hair being the same but they've really shit the bed with Chris with RE7. I do like his RE8 look, but to me his canon face is a combination of REmake and RE5. Voth Jill I think had the longest run for one character in the series. REmake, RE5 and Umbrella Chronicles.

Dude, have you played an RE game in the last 10 to 15 years? The faces have been amazingly consistent. Claire's face post CV was distinctly based on her voice actress, Alyson Court, Jill's face was based on model Julia Voth for years, and every other character kept largely consistent designs post PS1 era, especially Chris. One of the biggest complaints of the newest remakes, along with RE7, is how the returning characters went through massive redesigns that changed how they looked for no good goddamn reason, to the point that Chris in RE7 looked nothing like Chris from any of the past games and many people were actually wondering whether or not he was supposed to be the Chris Redfield. Its why he was redesigned again for RE8 to look closer to his previous design. If anything, this new era has gotten lambasted for the sometimes baffling redesign of fan favorite characters. The only character whose redesign hasn't gotten shit on is Leon's, and that's just largely because its inoffensive, not because its an improvement.

Chris' face in RE7 is one of the worst things about that game, it's so fucking bad they should have put in the effort to patch it post RE8.

Another thing about Shadows of Rose is taking place in an Evil Within style mental world is really starting to push it, they implied the fungus keeps people's consciousness in RE7, but the fungus being some entire mental world you can walk around in with all sorts of crazy stuff feels a little too far for RE.

On a aside note, this happened all the way back in September but the Farms downtime made me forget to ever mention it here, I actually went back and played the orignal RE1, not REmake, had never played the whole thing before.

And honestly? While at first it felt really dated and I wasn't sure I wanted to continue, sticking with it I did get in the groove and found it holds up better than I was expecting, I like that it's the one RE that's truly not fucking around (I played as Chris, iirc Jill is easier), even REmake is more forgiving, the game is absolutely a hardcore experience, the deadliness of the Hunters and their commonality after a point surprised me (and killed me a few times), I used up every single ink ribbon I had found, which has never happened to me before in a RE game, during the final stretch I was out and had to face the Tyrant both times with no saves in between which made the final fight amazingly intense and gave me an unbelievable sense of relief when I just barely managed to pull it off.

One thing that was cool is while the Crimson Head mechanic in REmake was cool, being able to one shot the zombies with the shotgun after struggling so much with them was amazingly satisfying (but then of course the hunters show up), so much so I'd say that's arguably a better sense of progression than how REmake does it.

I then played a quick Leon playthrough of RE2 and while never before have I appreciated as much how much higher a leap in production values the game is, it's piss easy when compared to the original.

I'm glad I finally went back to see where it all began and can now say I've played all the classic mainline entries, while all in all REmake is better, I did find the challenge of RE1 refreshing.

Is there actually any knowledge of what happened with the 3 Remake? I know it did not have the RE2 team working on it did capcom really just think it was good enough with the cut content? If IIRC it was rushed out a year after the 2 Remake.

Anyways if I understand correctly the RE2 team is doing the RE4 remake so I am not expecting cut content. I think Capcom at least knows they have to do this right considering RE4 status as a classic game. Things will be reworked and streamlined.

I'll throw out a prediction: Salzar's right hand man will be a stalker enemy in part of the castle.

The story is they were "assisted" by M-Two and Redworks but it feels like they probably did almost all of it.

And what would you make think that? They cut easily 40% of RE2.

I loved Lady D, thought her section was the best part of RE8, but damn do the coomers make me not want to see her again

Poor fish dude, nobody ever gave a fuck about him

If anything that'd only appease coomers more. I doubt most people actually cares about her background history aside her NSFWs on adult websites.

Then again, I don't remember we have a campaign to play as antagonist in RE series beside RE Chronicles with a bit of story lore how Wesker escaped the mansion and does a bit of killing on prototype BOWs in Umbrella's factory somewhere in Europe or something. CMIIW.

I calls this the Capcom jump; granted it's not present in all their games, what I call it when they were trying something new and while their first attempt was okay, the sequel is better in every conceivable way. The jump from OG RE1 to RE2 is massive; environments are entirely fleshed with a lot more detail, where RE1 would have rooms that would feel empty. The same can go for Dead Rising, it's competent enough, but parts would feel empty; then Dead Rising 2 and there's just a lot more effort put into the design and making things feel more alive/populated. I can appreciate a company trying something new, but I also appreciate a dev team learning how to build on their experiment and create a completely better experience. Keep in mind the original RE2 was around like 70% complete, before they scrapped everything and restarted from 0.

RE1, RE2, RE3 and REmake were all massive leaps from one another, it's too bad Capcom didn't keep that going before switching to full 3D exclusively.

Though to be fair, what specifically I played was the GameCube port of RE2, which I assume runs at a higher resolution than the PS1 original, so the difference between it and RE1 was even more dramatic, I used to think RE2 looked pretty dated, but it was gorgeous compared to RE1.

However RE2 is way easier, generally 2 is about creating an intimidating atmosphere but gives you so much ammo so long as you're not totally incompetent you'll be ok, the only hairy moment was when I arrogantly marched into the basement without saving for a while and forgot about all the dogs and was chased to the next save point, that an was awesomely frightening moment, but other than a few moments RE2 is more about creating the illusion of danger, whereas RE1 everything really is fucking dangerous.

As a longtime fan of the series RE1's challenge really was refreshing, it's too bad that's it and there's none of the classic style games I haven't played now, but it honestly felt like an interesting high note to end on by going full circle back to the beginning.

As for your "Capcom jump", I'd argue DR1 is better than 2, though 2 was obviously a little more polished in some respects and DMC2 was worse than DMC1.

I wish we would've gotten RE2 and 3 with the same REmake treatment and not half assed attempts nearly 20 years later with gigantic portions of the games are missing.

I really hate that we'll never get that.

I remember when REmake came out and they ended up porting the rest to Gamecube, there was a magazine that said something along the lines of "Don't even complain that these are only ports and aren't getting full remakes, otherwise we might not see Resident Evil 4 until 2004"

It always stuck with me to this day.
