Female characters are better horror protagonists, period.

Not trying to go manosphere/incel whatever here but theres a degree of innocence and frailty thats just naturally attributed to young women, and thats why seeing Irons looming over a fucking dissected lady on his desk hits harder when playing as Claire, *another* young lady just like the one before her eyes, than it would if you played through the same scene as Leon, the policeman
There's also something implicitly unsettling about the fact that he knowingly lets a little girl run through his office to dead-end herself in the back of his trophy room.

Probably also why Haunting Ground is so beloved since it really tries to sell the "frail young woman" and weird, rapey, abusive, psychosexual stuff of the pursuers in the game.

Look at the corridor outside his office. There's a hole in the wall that Sherry can squeeze into. You can see it here between Claire and the Zombie (sorry for the watermark):

This hole would bring her out under the tiger statue here:

She's just lucky as hell she ran to her left and not straight ahead into Vlad the Impaler's office.

I hope they really change things up in RE4, I don't want to play the same game again.
There's a Moneky's Paw wish if I've ever heard one.

It's a fine line Capcom has to walk when remaking RE4. Change it too much and you'll put off the majority of old fans. Too little and why should anybody buy it?

Wow that's interesting. I have to get the original RE2 and replay that again as I can't remember this particular nugget. The old games sure had a lot of detail packed into them.
The OG games fucking nailed that. I used to hunt out any notes or documents I could find in the first few games. It was cool to read diaries and shit from people as the outbreak was starting, so you got snippets of its origin, its purpose, vague hints and who it might concern. It felt almost like a detective game, should have leaned a lot more into that, rather than the utter wank it ended up becoming.

Only good thing about the remakes is making Jill a chubby slut wearing BDSM clothing. Made me giggle a few times, then I just sort of stopped playing the 3make. 2 I at least forged on with, happy to not be seeing 7 and village style Resident Evil, which is pure shit (decent horror games though, not without flaws, should have been standalone IPs, you know, how people used to create a franchise worth milking).

When it comes to RE4, that was always going to be an issue. RE4 still holds up today and was released on everything under the sun. Any remake would feel unnecessary, no matter how good it is.

I own the CE on GameCube, I bought it again on the Wii and also for the PS4, and I'll be buying the PS5 remake. It's one of the best games ever made.

  • Predictable story line yet badly written.
  • 3rd person camera gameplay. Similar with Resident Evil 6 minus CQB moves.
  • The Duke is now resides as an evil guy.
  • Main character beats the enemy with superpower, sort of.
  • Young Eveline has returned, and even more annoying than before.
  • Mother Miranda somehow survived from the blast explosion from RE: Village. Thus the jihad Ethan Winter did was a fuck all waste of effort.
  • SCP-173 tier enemy appears in the game in an extremely small rooms. Not just one, but two, but there are thREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE of them.
  • None of the gameplay looks entertaining at slightest, let alone the story.
  • Dad Ethan returns and had a hug moment with his daughter for first and probably last time except he will not come back from death. His face is still blocked on screen for some fucking reason. (Note: His face can be seen on RE Wiki via Gallery in Art Concept section).

tl;dr was very painful and tiring to watch

There's a swarm of RE inspired videos going around but I thought this one did the most justice.

I understand why people think that, but in action heavy games that have some degree of realism I prefer a male character because it seems more plausible.

Personally, I also prefer it because it lessens the fear factor just a tad, similar to having a partner like in Resident Evil 0. Playing as Sherry or Ashley in RE2/RE4 are easily the scariest parts of the games imo.

I don't know how that fact can possibly be construed as incel or whatever, it's just true.

Well Sherry and Ashley are just regular people that were supporting cast, so it's supposed to male you feel very vulnerable to play as them.

RE up until recent memory portrayed female characters realistic enough. They were always not quite as tough as the lead men while still being tougher than most. They were tough in their skill sets and not portrayed as physically tough.

3make Jill is a case study on how not to do a female lead, especially in RE.

Looks like Capcom is try to dissuade people about REm4ke being neutered or sliced up in significant ways. They're saying that nothing has been cut and it's as long as the original. Also sounds like they're doubling down the Leon guro with some pretty horrific sounding death possibilities. In my opinion I don't trust them to not pull a fast one and trim/shorten entire sections of the game into brief rooms or areas and then claim, "See? Nothing cut. All there still!"

Either way, I remain cautiously optimistic even if I think they should have done CV/0 long before 4. I wonder which one will get the treatment next?

I don't think people would care if they trimmed down the 'Water Room'.

I think they’ll do it like RE2 Remake. Not quite as much cut as RE3 Remake but there’ll definitely be some enemies or small areas cut. Maybe all they’ll cut is the extra game modes, but they’ll cut something.

Probably. Although trimming areas is less infuriating than cutting an entire scenario. They'll probably leave the village intact but I see them cutting that fork in the road area right after the cabin siege and just make you fight El Gigante again without a choice. I also see them cutting a lot of goofy shit that was in the castle. Island will be very neutered or just entirely different.

I actually doubt they'll cut anything. RE3 remake was raked over the coals for all the things it cut, and even RE2 remake was criticized for cutting things. Since they had longer to develop this game, they don't have the excuse of R3make that they only had a year to make the game. And they know they will be under more scrutiny since RE4 is still so popular. The bigger issues will be the changing of things like character personalities, eliminating Leon's one liners, and removing the ability to look up Ashley's skirt.

I hope we still get Knight Ashley and Leon rubbing his poor back when catching her.
