I unlocked the Summoner Class by exploring and taking my time.

Game is full of build possibility. I'm loving it.

That aside, how well do the classes gel as a whole, and is there room for single player, uh, play? A big part of what I liked in Remnant is being able to collect and level everything on one character. I hear the skill and passive limits here are kind of restrictive.
The only thing class changes is what you start with. Everything from the classes not picked are acquired from the vendors at start. You can switch classes as much as you want to no ill effect outside of experience going to the ones you have equipped. It's exactly like the first in that you probably will do everything and rerolls on the same character. Only real change is the account wide things in the past now are purchased and not gifted to you to make Hardcore runs, well, harder. Outside of Hardcore, the only reason for alt characters are coop. If you're playing with multiple people, it would be best to play on separate characters to keep power levels closer.

The main changes to classes just make it so you don't really just end up as the same character towards endgame of just dumping skill points in everything because you have a surplus. So there's just a bigger focus on active abilities and mechanics and less just "number goes up" things.

Edit:
Fun fact: the game actually takes place sometime around the 2080s; Chronos and Remnant took place in 2062, and Remnant 2 takes place two decades afterwards. The devs confirmed it on the Discord. The Root invaded roughly around 1968, I think.
Chronos predates Remnant by a few years time and the protagonists of both are from the same world with the starting set in the first game referencing that. I never played Chronos but that was the events that set up Remnant with the Destroyer (the final boss of the base game) being the PC of Chronos who killed the Guardians of both the Labyrinth that allowed the Root to spread to other worlds and Yaesha's which is why they've been invaded. I may be messing up a few details since I don't do VR shit so didn't play Chronos. All the terminals in the locked section of the Ward hub in the first game were all 70s/80s tech computers and yeah, the whole thing was a Cold War project to stop the commies.

Well, that answered my one big lore question on how the Root showed up. Weird psychic dream project to stop the Commies, someone opened the fucking door, and a hundred years later it finally almost won.

It got confirmed by the devs in an interview that only about a month passed between Chronos and Remnant: https://www.reddit.com/r/RemnantGame_Lore/comments/dem1fu/confirmed_lore_by_the_developers/

Other than that; yeah, the whole issue with the Root was that it started as a Cold War project by America to fight the commies, and... well, everything went wrong.

That all being said... the finale of Remnant 2... certainly puts forth a lot more questions. Not spoiling anything.

I do admit, I am just a bit interested in this game; Remnant 1 was one of my favorites, but from what I've seen so far on the second game, I'm not sure about making the purchase when I get the chance.
Remnant 2 is literally just Remnant 1 with everything good expanded upon. Actual classes, more secrets, more areas, bigger maps, and more loot to make a build with.

@11 Herbs and Spices Gunfire Games actually converted Chronos: Before the Ashes to a 3rd person melee focused adventure if you want to give it a try. Its kind of mediocre but fun in its own little way.

At least the gameplay sounds like it's going to be better overall; hell, in the original Remnant, half the fun was literally just wandering around Earth. For whatever reason, just being able to walk around this Earth despite how repetitive it got, never actually ceased to be fun; I can't explain it, but there was something that was just... timeless and relaxing about walking around, taking in the sights, no matter how much I saw them.

To be honest, though; it's not the gameplay that has me worried, but rather the story. I got spoiled on the ending thanks to a couple of jackasses, and... well, let's just say that it's a very interesting direction that they're going - can't say that it's good or bad, just... interesting, especially with how Clementine features into it. Really trying not to spoil here, but it's very blatantly a set-up for future DLC that could be very interesting... assuming that Gunfire doesn't waste the opportunity with some story hooks like they did in Remnant 1. I've got some confidence this time around, mind, but it's a bit... concerning.

The endgame story hooks do give me some really cool and potentially interesting ideas for things - more than you'd think, actually - but at the same time, it also dashes a few hopes I had. Not a deal-breaker, exactly, but... well, I just hope Gunfire knows what they're doing.

I actually feel that way N'Erud. The whole place has a heavy Prometheus/Engineers from Aliens vibe to it that I just find fun to explore. The fact is has some of the more of the interactive puzzle/locations secrets is just icing on the cake.

And the Engineer secret class from there is so damn good. Can really melt boss while still giving time for you to dodge boss attack patterns.

Ok, Enigma is a bullshit weapon. This almost isn't fun.
Ha ha, yeah. Once you find that sucker its realllllllllllllllllllllllllll hard to give it up. Makes any area/boss fight with mobs a cake walk.

Really enjoying the Pulse Rifle through. Having a accurate as hell three short burst weapon that can take mods makes it one of the most flexible weapons in the game.

Anyone have any suggestions on weaponry or Archetype yet? Not too far into the game as of yet - still on the first world, N'Erud - but I'm wondering which weapons and Archetypes I should try and keep an eye out for. Solo player, looking for a solid build.

Also, when do we get Adventure mode? I presume it's after each world is completed.

Handler is very good. Just having another body to keep aggro off of you is great but the dog also does okay damage and the passive effects and howls are fairly useful. Since you got N'Erud first you should hunt for Engineer to use. Its out in the poison mists in a little hidden spot along with its armor. It is also very powerful with a turret you can place but also pick up to use yourself as a heavy weapon. I got to the final boss as Hunter/Handler.

Weapons I feel are personal preference. I played through 90% of the game with a bow and the double barrel but I've been using the lmg on my co-op save and been enjoying it. I think the only weapon considered too good right now is the lightning gun you get in the second world.

And yes you get Adventure Mode for each world once you beat the World Boss on it.

Thanks for the info. I'm currently running the Medic Archetype - still don't have it to 10 yet - but when I get it up, I'll give Engineer a shot. Also got the Bonesaw for my primary, MP60-R for my secondary, and I'm planning on grabbing the Spectral Blade once I get the chance; might swap it for Edge of the Forest later, not sure.

Also thinking about grabbing the Double Barrel and Nightfall later on, once I get through Losom; don't know if they'll be my mains yet, but I've heard some good things about them. I do want to give the bows a shot as well. There's also a few Archetypes from later in the game that I'm looking at; looking forward to it!

You only need to spend ten talent points to unlock the second archetype slot. If you want to keep the Bonesaw talk to mudtooth to to hear all his stories to unlock the Gunslinger to help with it reload speed.

New Patch Dropped, now you don't even need to do that. The second you get a second engram(which now has a lower crafting cost) you can equip a second Archtype.

Besides bug fixes:

Quality of Life

QOL OVERVIEW: While we still have quite a few things we are working on regarding Traits and long-term grinding (for those that wish to partake), we wanted to make a few changes in this patch to ensure players had more freedom to experiment. Players should find it much easier to Respec and they should also end up with more Scrap overall. We aren't done here by any means, and these are not the larger changes we've mentioned on Discord and Reddit, but in the short term, they should help to ease the burden or reconfiguring your build and experimenting with different options.

  • Increased Trait Cap by +5.
  • Tome of Knowledge now grants Scrap and EXP when the player has reached Trait Cap.
  • Orb of Undoing now has unlimited uses. Players can sell any extras for Scrap.
  • Removed the Trait Requirement for equipping a second Archetype. Players may now slot their second Archetype as soon as they obtain / convert another Engram at Wally.
  • Removed the Scrap Cost for converting a Mysterious Item into an Engram (1000 to 0).
  • Lowered the Lumenite Cost for converting a Mysterious Item into an Engram (10 to 5).
  • Slightly Increased Scrap Gain from Breakables.
  • Increased Scrap Gain from Regular and Rare Chests.
  • Increased Scrap Gain when killing Aberrations.
  • Reduced the cost of Bloodroot.

Now all the devs need to do is make it easier to upgrade weapons to try out new builds.

AAAAAAAAA my Enigma is ner- oh wait, it's still really good.

Trait cap should have probably gone up like +15. Classes have 5 points put in varying traits by default and before, if you were maxing out the traits you wanted to use, there was probably one that was only half maxed once everything was allocated. +5 lets you finish or almost finish that, but +15 would let you also add another full trait entirely.

I just wish that the classes were as good as dog class, like a passive + a basic + a hold that has the longass cooldown.
Like for example, the tap basic for melee class should be a charge attack with auto tracking for enemies that has like a 5 second cooldown - while the passive is just an attack speed/dmg res/fire rate buff depending on whicever skill you slotted.

Like for the mage class (the ACTUAL mage class) it's infuriating that the spellcasting stance only has like 10% uptime, to make no m,ention that cooldowns only start cooling down after the skill duration ran out. Rendering full-on skill specs useless unless you dual class duration classes.

Also my save got corrupted after I tried rerolling too hard too fast. RIP my everything save that I totally didn't cheat in.

Without spoiling, I don't know if I got a weird roll, if my friends are bad at the game, or something.

I've been having a rough go of it. I'm 9 hours in. Level 8. That rolling cube boss took ages for me to beat. The first world (the forest) seemed to go on forever and had 3 bosses back to back. I have found Clementine and the tutorial seems to be mostly over as it feels like the game has just opened up.

However, my friends were playing co-op, are 25 hours in, and have just reached the same point in the story and just hit level 10. Given that one of those friends 100%ed the first game I find it hard to imagine it's a skill issue.

The game is terribly unbalanced. A lot of classes are dreadful and will make the game 3 times more difficult than it should. Weapons are all over the place too, some of them are just not viable.

During the final boss you need to destroy a bunch of orbs before they explode on you. I and my brother simply couldn't manage that, it was impossible you the crap weapons we were using. Yesterday I was watching two dudes on Twitch playing on Apocalypse and they were destroying all the orbs in a matter of 2 second using a post-patch nerfed Enigma gun

What kind of amulets + rings are you using? Did you guys all at least have a second Archtype going with your primary? I mean it sounds like you guys pumped up your weapons a bit to hard to try to out race the content.
