I could have lived without knowing that Lara was also raped by the Netflix shittification trend.
Also lol nigger game, you would think they would cancel this shit with how bad the publicity has been. Next Hyenas/Concord/Highguard like disaster?
Nah, this ain't like Concord. This never got the level of coverage to qualify.
I think similar Concord-like, we also need Dustborn-like to start becoming a term as well.
My conditions for concord-likes were:
1: It
must be a game which the corporation(s) behind it believe is likely to be a smash hit, and give it an extremely high amount of resources as a result.
2: Despite (1), it is immediately panned or written off at the moment of it's announcement by the larger audience, and flops immediately on release.
3: The reason for flopping is the game obviously being made by a group that's out of touch with the wider gaming market, ideally due to being some combination of:
-3a: Being behind market trends, such as a late arrival to it's genre, when said genre is falling out of favor.
-3b: Seeming to be self-evidently derivative of previous offerings it will compete with.
-3c: Having an outdated cultural outlook, particularly tropes associated with negative aspects of early 2020's pop culture (millenial humour, deliberate uglification, virtue signalling taken to obnoxious or overtly hypocritical levels, manchildren stuff).
4: And not as strictly but still helpful, it is a game that is online or some sort of live service offering. Something that will
only be playable long term if it gets mass appeal.
So if I were to define what a Dustborn-like game is:
1: Relatively large team for 'Indie' game. At least 10, and usually a lot more.
-1a: Especially if this is weighted heavily in artistic developers. Artists, writers, etc. Something something many cooks.
2: Game Journo darling, not supported by larger corporations but makes media rounds where possible. (Usually because the game is spearheaded by a journo darling already).
3: Extremely low max player count, instant flop at an obviously unsustainable level. Less than 10 max players per dev.
4: Criticisms include but are not limited to:
-4a: Extremely basic, buggy, or otherwise lacking gameplay, with few to no interesting ideas or executions.
-4b: Heavy-handed left-leaning political takes, to the point of often being openly racist/sexist/otherwise biased and/or accidentally playing directly to negative stereotypes.
-4c: Because of 4b, characters that are supposed to be heroic or sympathetic become seen as assholes or outright villains, and possibly vice-versa.
Games I'd put as Dustbunnies include Sunset, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, Goodbye Volcano High barely scrapes under to nab a spot for point 3, and of course we can't forget Validate. If you want to set a hard limit of sub-100 max players, even two of these failures don't apply.
