MIA is pedobait, dyed in the wool pedobait, from character designs, to the lore, to even the behavior of the primary antagonists. The main characters are children who constantly get naked, the series relishes in torturing and stripping children, the creator is basically an open pedo. This isn't a case of "I really like this but it has that scene, the entire show is about "that scenes". Separating the art from the artist only works if the art isn't infested with the artists's perversions.
I think there is a very good story and world independent of the pedobait shit. I think some of the appeal of the world is how cruel it is, even to kids, which we naturally hold sacred. But that doesn't mean it needs to go as far as it does. But perhaps the discomfort is part of it....
Still, it's too much, and it makes it hard to ever recommend it because on top of being cruel, it has an unhealthy obsession with the robot boy's penis and sexual attraction the rabbit, for a set of examples.
I don't think it is designed as a pedo bait or some kind of dog whistle or whatever else you want to call it. I do however think the author is mentally unwell and it heavily bleeds into his works. But I think there's enough there independent of the pedo bait shit to not claim the whole series is pedo bait.
For the exact opposite, look up something like Gushing Over Magical girls (don't...). It's basically just pedo lesbian port. The former has an actual story and other boons besides just the weird shit. This show's whole shtick is children having their sexual awakening into the world of BDSM. No, I'm not exagerating.
But yes, I was losely aware that the creator is basically a confirmed pedo in everything but the legal system. I don't bother looking into it because frankly I don't care. I try to stay out of the anime fan drama bullshit. But I also have seen enough fucked up shit in my lifetime to just bear through the weird moments and appreciate the rest.
If you want a more relatable example, think of a show you watch that has woke BS in it. Sometimes you just accept the woke BS and grit your teeth through the woke moments. It might not even be a good show, but it's something you've taken to watching, and you know the woke shit is coming and it's gonna be annoying/uncomfortable, but it passes.
