Why would you share this with the internet? Doesn't this guy have friends to bitch about this? Also, why do I have the feeling his wife is banging someone else while he works and takes care of the kids?

I can't trust stories like this anymore. For one thing it sounds pretty fake. But even the "true" stories even up not matching reality. Too many times I've read these awful stories, only to later find out after some digging, the OP is a huge asshole and deserved whatever bad thing happened to them, or they're technically telling the truth but wildly exaggerating for pitty/karma points.

The real kicker is so many redditors eating this shit up.

It’s also missing him implying he could do much better than his ungrateful bitch wife and that she’s lucky to have him. The guys in these types of stories usually describe themselves as gym rats with six-figure jobs in IT and above average dicks. Outwardly desirable but not completely unrelatable to the reader.

I think the all-day PTA meeting is what convinced me this is fake. She's allegedly too lazy to do anything involving childcare or cleaning even though she's at home all day, yet she's willing to spend all day at something for her kid's school? The rest of the story sounds like a plot to a terrible sitcom episode with the male and female characters reversed. It's just too much bad behavior for one day.

I can believe it. No one said happy birthday to me this year. When i decided to stop feeling bad about it i used it to help me work out how i drifted away from people i love. Turns out the world is complex, busy, and being forgotten about isnt always because youre a piece of shit.

Not that I'm trying to give validity to his story but I can completely see a mom who doesn't generally do mom stuff getting involved in something like that for the look and especially if the new school is somehow minority or equity focused and especially there's wine at the end of the meeting or going out for wine.

The obsession around "birthdays" as soon as you have actual responsibilities is basically proof of still being a man child.

You are a full grown adult. Pick a restaurant you like. Make a reservation. Invite people to your birthday party. Pay for it, because you are an adult, and you chose the restaurant, and it is your birthday. Until you arrive at the restaurant, do your fucking job and responsibilities because the world keeps moving forward.

The professionalisation of leisure activities is fucking tragic.

A whole generation has been told that being unproductive is a moral failing, and that life consists of alternating between work and time where you perform maintance on yourself to work better.

My baseline position is one of doing whatever i want regardless of how productive it is, and everything outside of that i do only so i can maintain that baseline. I work so my productively when im not working is irrelevant.

It seems that people dont feel comfortable saying they spend time relaxing. Instead they schedule time for self care. Rather than spend time chilling with their friends, they 'reach out' and agree a suitable time to connect where they communicate mindfully, ensuring they set clear boundaries while remaining open to feedback.

The pandemic was a missed opportunity to build character from adversity. Instead it was those with the least character who were most protected.

I think it started as a thing for people with real mental health issues that make them inclined to neglect the basic maintenance of their bodies and lives. Eating healthy food, going to the dentist, having a good sleep schedule, are things that certain people have trouble with and need to work on to make their lives better. But like body positivity for people with disabilities was overrun by fats, self care was taken over by people with self diagnosed anxiety or autism as an excuse to do whatever they felt like and now and it’s turned into “sit on your arse eating crisps all day because it feels good”.
