This video seemed like:

"We need something to release this week."

"That's right, Jay! Let me ramble about yellow cartoon people for about ten minutes... and no, I'm not talking about you, CHINAMEN."

*slide whistle sound effect*

Their takes are getting worse and worse, or their novelty is wearing thin. Rich and Jay's opinions on Karate Kid were terrible (Cobra Kai was mostly on point though). The Karate Kid movies were fun in a schlocky way, no meant to be taken seriously. That finale in season 2 was great because it was retarded.

It was much better than Last Jedi, which admittedly isn't saying much, and some of the imagery was fucking sweet. I watched it finally the other day and the shot near the beginning when Ren is flying through the rain to the menacing-looking inverted pyramid temple really caught my attention. Unfortunately the rest of the movie feels like it takes place over the course of 20 minutes and has no real feeling of energy or high stakes.

Whoa there.

See I blame George Lucas for this.

Because he did the prequel trilogy, people became obsessed with making movies explaining all the backstories of this that and the other.

Why does Maleficent need two backstory movies? Why does Hannibal Lecter need a backstory movie? Why does the Father Merrin need a backstory? Why does Dracula need a backstory movie? Why does Nurse Rached need a backstory? In most cases, we either already know everything that we need to know to make the story work OR the character works best when shrouded in mystery and its best to not pull the curtain back.

Hell, my biggest problem with GI Joe Rise of Cobra was that the crux of the story hinged on Cobra Commander's backstory....the character who thrives best when he's shrouded in mystery and you know almost nothing about it.

What is this obsession with having all the questions answered? Doesn't that, oh, I don't know, kill the mystique and take the fun out of alot of these things? Or in the case of Nurse Rached, just beat a dead horse because we already know everything that we need to know?

That isn't to say prequels can't work. The Planet of the Apes trilogy was very good, and Bates Motel worked much better than I expected it too, but as a general rule, the less you know, the better.

The best prequel I’ve seen in any medium is Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

It answered the question “Why was Big Boss a legendary soldier?” and that was something that was 100% worth going into, it made the story of the whole saga richer.

But part of that was maybe due to the specific context of video games, prior to that game we had only ever seen Big Boss as a batch of pixels, so it was worth showing more of that character, that’s different when you’re talking movies or whatever where you don’t have quite those profound technological leaps

Somehow I don't think Mike will ever make his Plinkett Rise of Skywalker review. The time to have done it was many months ago when it came out on video. And you can't say he just doesn't have the time to do it now.

I totally forgot that’s not a thing that has happened yet and I question whether it’s really even needed.

I'm more looking forward to hackfraudmedia's Rise of Skywalker review. His review of The Last Jedi really hit it out of the park. And he doesn't handle Disney properties with kid gloves.
I don't think it's handling them with kid gloves as much as they are obsessed with saying something "new" and don't want to repeat things.

And or being a little burnt out with Plinkett and only doing it out of obligation. (Though Ghostbusters was great) As I said before on this thread, for RoS, they should just point to hackfraudmedia with a thumbs up. Let them carry the torch now.

Well, it was called "The Last Plinkett Review" for a reason.

I don't care if we get more Plinkett or not. I prefer BOTW and Re:View better.

I believe they outgrew the format. Mr.Plinkett's reviews became the blueprint for a bunch of copycats that have saturated that style of video. If I wanted to listen a neckbeard imitating Plinkett and ranting about feminism in movies I'd watch Critical Drinker's abysmal content.

Uhm, did you forget the Picard review?

And that was really good and proves Plinkett is still worth using every once in a blue moon, but I'm fine with him being on the backburner if it means more time devoted to stuff like Best of The Worst.
