So, back in August Jay briefly talked about the new Ratched show
Capture.JPG
What's the hope that he'll both watch it AND review it with someone (though I couldn't imagine who, maybe Josh) on the channel? I kinda want to see him talk about it since every review, both negative and positive, have said it's basically Ryan Murphy making American Horror Story: Ratched and I dropped that shit hard.

I just watched One Flew Over ect. ect. and there is no reason for further exploration of Nurse Ratched. She's a nurse with a stick up her ass trying to do her job and the only questionable thing she did was keep Jack in the mental hospital when he could have been transferred out. There is no indication in her acting nor camera work that she did that to fuck him over for malicious selfish reasons. And the fact Jack had 3 separate opportunities of escaping make it hard for me to sympathize with him. The lobotomy was excessive, but don't go choking nurses.

All that is to say, I'm looking forward to RLM Re:View on the series to shit on the concept of the show. It's a cash grab plain and simple and whoever is doing AHS mist have a hard on for Sarah Paulson.

Yeah, it's always been impressive to me how much they manage to keep a low profile. The only other drama that I can' think of with them is when Paul Lottsa or whatever his name is (that "cartographer" fag who wanted to be Doug Walker) got trolled into driving to milwalkie to "meet with RLM" and they still basically had nothing to do with that.
I never really watched PreRec but I think I saw a clip where they talked about that. Almost hard to believe anyone would fall for an email pretending to be RLM inviting them on their show because any fan would immediately know that's not like them. But it's fucking Lottsa so...

See I blame George Lucas for this.

Because he did the prequel trilogy, people became obsessed with making movies explaining all the backstories of this that and the other.

Why does Maleficent need two backstory movies? Why does Hannibal Lecter need a backstory movie? Why does the Father Merrin need a backstory? Why does Dracula need a backstory movie? Why does Nurse Rached need a backstory? In most cases, we either already know everything that we need to know to make the story work OR the character works best when shrouded in mystery and its best to not pull the curtain back.

Hell, my biggest problem with GI Joe Rise of Cobra was that the crux of the story hinged on Cobra Commander's backstory....the character who thrives best when he's shrouded in mystery and you know almost nothing about it.

What is this obsession with having all the questions answered? Doesn't that, oh, I don't know, kill the mystique and take the fun out of alot of these things? Or in the case of Nurse Rached, just beat a dead horse because we already know everything that we need to know?

That isn't to say prequels can't work. The Planet of the Apes trilogy was very good, and Bates Motel worked much better than I expected it too, but as a general rule, the less you know, the better.

I would disagree and say that the Nurse Ratched in the One Flew Over movie was extremely evil - in that she was very obsessed with maintaining power and control over her charges; whether she did this because she thought it was for the men's own good, or because she felt it was what her bosses wanted, or because it fed into her egotism is unknown. All that is known is that the order that Nurse Ratched was trying to maintain was for a purpose, and it was probably because the State wanted these men to be warehoused so they'd be cheap and easy to take care of. When Jack showed up, he started rocking the boat. He actually helped them be assertive and work through their issues, but in doing so, he made their lives more chaotic. And there ARE clues to the nastiness lurking behind Ratched's calm, professional exterior. I found this video to do a good job of explaining it:

While I do think that Nurse Ratched is evil, I don't think she's aware that she's evil. I think she's totally convinced that she's in the right and that she really doesn't understand or observe the men in her care (except to look for aspects in their personalities that she can use against them.)

We can agree to disagree on evil being defined as being obsessed with maintaining power and control. That said nothing you said conflicts with anything I said. I made no claims on her goodness or badness. I don't think she is a "good" person. She's kind of a cunt. The OG Karen. I don't like her. There is not enough in the original movie to warrant a prequel series diving into her evilness. That's all I'm saying.

Because the studios don't have to risk money on new IPs and people are consoomers.

I love the Nerd Crew but I believe on Patreon they implied they packed up that set. I hope they do something like that again, ie something that is not just reviewing. Mike was really into it and seemed inspired, whereas he's really seemed checked out for everything else for a while.
They should make more just to fuck with Shatner at the very least.

BTW, can anybody link me the video where Mike and Rich keep “unsubscribing from CBS all access” by pushing a button? I’ve looked all over but I can’t find it.

Uhhhhh I don't remember how much of the book the movie leaves out, but in the book it's pretty obvious that, while Bromden is a bit of an unreliable narrator, Nurse Ratched is cruel and uses her position of power to essentially mentally (sometimes physically) torture the inmates. The reason Billy Bibbet kills himself is because Ratched constantly threatens to tell his mother he's being bad. Cheswick drowns himself because he realizes he will never be released, because his release depends on Ratched. The rest of the orderlies do it as well.

Movie's on Netflix and you can check it out for yourself.

That kind of behavior is probably why they have such a dedicated fanbase after so many years: they don't air their personal bullshit for the world to see. The fans don't see all of Mike, Jay, and Rich's negative traits and dirty laundry, the best fans can get are random lines in reviews or unverifiable rumors on the internet about their backstage drama. They are smart and manage to separate their personal lives from their professional lives to the point where only the most autistic fans know if Rich has finally married his fiancee or if Mike and Jessie are still together, married, or have kids, or if Mike and Jay had a falling out years ago over a girl. If they have a personal beef with another YouTuber they are smart enough to limit it to a few swipes at the beginning of their videos which won't start any real drama.

Compare their behavior online to Linkara whose porn writings are being uncovered every few years and acts like a pompous asshole on Twitter and in his videos. Linkaras terrible webcomics, novels, and smut has been exposed for the whole world to see so everyone can laugh at them and his messed up relationships are the subject of podcasts. The core trio of RLM have kept their internet presence on the down-low so the chance of the world finding out about their seedy activities drops considerably.
Null said it best on a livestream about mumkey: the key to continuous internet success is treating your channel/blog/vlog/site as a business. You don't let your business associates or your customer see your personal bullshit; that is just dumb. If it pays the bills, it is a business. Take it seriously.
