I haven't even seen it, but like ?? @jallsballs
i heard on 4chan that the plot of this movie is that ryan goslings wife cheats on him and leaves him for a nigger, then gets put in charge of nasa and then basically kidnaps/maduros ryan gosling, black bags him and throws him in the spaceship to go out and save the earth. and the gist of it is “hey white man go sacrifice yourself out there to save the earth for all the niggers k? byeee” or is it really just heckin wholesome me and my rock bro eatin lucky charmz and groovin to 80’s music?

If that was in the movie it was in a throwaway line so short you could sneeze and miss it. As far as the film indicated, the person in charge of the space program is not related to Ryan at all.

Most of it is about him overcoming the challenges of the universe. Like the perfect storm only the storm is in the vacuum of space and so much worse.

It's been awhile since I saw it but I don't think it shows his ex wife at all

edit: yea apparently he didnt even have one, just couldnt remember if it was mentioned briefly or something, as the core theme of the movie is his loneliness and isolation

I think you might have taken a shitpost too seriously, in both the book and the film, Ryan Gosling's character never married.

It’s a good movie that kicks in the face of nihilism, cynicism, fear of being genuine (le cringe ), or the overplayed ”humans are the REAL monsters” types of sci-fi we get now.

Good work dynamic between men and women, diversity that makes sense (they’re dealing with aliens so there’s essentially a council of nations type set up), Gosling’s character is redeemed for his beliefs and interests rather than humiliated and broken before diverse “betters”, characters that behave like human beings and not demons in a psyche ward, etc.

It’s also something the whole family could watch across age spectrums and enjoy which helps the box office.

I am kind of curious what they’d say about this one, especially Mike and Rich.

Haven't seen the movie, but in the book
the scientist spot on the ship is supposed to be taken by a nog, with a spare woman scientist in reserve. They start having a romance (just a few throw away lines.) God punishes them for race mixing by exploding both of them just before the launch. Ryan Gosling's character who had no connection with either of them outside helping to prepare them for mission is asked to be a new scientist for Hail Mary since there's basically no one else who can take the spot at this point. He refuses since it's one way trip and a woman (again no personal connection) in charge of earth's combined efforts drugs him and puts him on the ship against his will.

Regarding the movie. I've heard only positive things about it and seems fun enough so I'll probably stream it later. Although I'm pretty sure they skip a lot of hard sci-fi plot points that were my favourite part of the book. On the plus side Ryan Gosling is a perfect casting choice. Protagonist of the book is literally him. I'm not even meme'ing.

I don't want them to waste time talking about movies that just came out, or Plinkett reviews, or Previously Recorded, or any of that tired old shit. I just want more videos about box office returns and how people don't go to movie theaters anymore.

I watched Hail Mary a few days ago. I didn't like it. The premise was fine, but there was a lot that bothered me.

Don't waste your time reading all this, lol:
It was frequently cloying, tonally discordant, the somewhat childish and exaggerated comedy annoyed me, and I CAN'T STAND Ryan Gosling. I can't buy him in semi-serious roles, and it's kinda hard to get past that.

I don't know, it was like a movie for stupid people pretending to be a movie for smart people. From what I've read, it wasn't a great adaptation and a lot of the more complex problem solving and characterisation from the book were stripped away to make it more of a kids' movie. I can believe that.

So basically, glob all the negative reviews together and that's what I think of it.

There's also something fundamental about it that I really disliked, and I'm having a hard time articulating it. There's a point of view in some quarters that superhero movies are evil, because they portray massive problems being brought about and then solved by supernatural or preternatural forces, and condition us to believe that normal people are not agents of change. That they make people more passive in some subtle way. I don't know whether that's valid or not, though it's probably naive to assume that the bazillion capeshit movies that have been released over the past couple of decades have had absolutely no psychological impact on anyone. You could apply this to hollywood generally, but that's a whole other discussion!

That's not exactly the sentiment this movie made me think of, but it's something similar. It was just such a strange kind of fantasy where nobody was a real human being, and everything works out in the end even though it abso-fucking-lutely shouldn't have and I didn't expect it to. It was like it wanted to infantilise its audience.

Blah blah.

Anyway, best movie in a long time? I don't know, I haven't seen them all.

I CAN'T STAND Ryan Gosling
I never got the appeal.
