I find it noteworthy that Red Letter Media appears to be less protective of the new Star Trek franchise in comparison to their stance on Disney's Star Wars.
Trek was a slow decline ever since Enterprise left the airwaves. Mainly though, I think for the most part, every "era" or cast of characters mostly had their own definitive ending to their arcs or stories. Of course, there's Generations, Nemesis, Picard, etc, but those can be ignored, one can still watch TNG or TOS and have a satisfying, self contained experience.
Star Wars though was effectively and suddenly murdered overnight. Making the entire EU noncanonical, bastardizing all of the existing characters, replacing
everything about its identity with the cheap plastic Disney version of itself, etc. That was almost thirty years of lore and stories and fan curated culture that was suddenly swept aside for what Disney suddenly declared Star Wars to actually be.
And most importantly, they took what was a satisfying, closed ending (ROTJ), and made a spectacle out of bastardizing the characters and undoing their development. Effectively it was declaring that what those characters had endured throughout the OT didn't matter at all.
IMO, the murder of Star Wars is far more painful and egregious, but at the end of the day the ruination of these properties doesn't really negate the original work.
There's still a fandom and a community for Trek, whether it's TOS or Berman era. Can't say the same about Star Wars. Closest I can think of are people who are into the prequel trilogy, but even that's tainted by Filoni's OC DONUT STEEL malarkey.
I really can't think of any good Star Wars of any type since about halfway through Mando season 2. I keep hearing how great Andor was but I was bored out my mind after 3 eps and just gave up. At least even the worst (Except those damn Vespas in Boba Fett) mostly look in-universe. This Trek stuff is actively repulsive to look at, from the characters to the ships to the bridges.
You're missing out with Andor. Gilroy's stuff (Rogue One and Andor) are the only things to come out of Nuwars that I enjoy at all, and for me are the only things that actually look and feel like Star Wars since Disney bought it.
Even Mando, Booba Feet, etc, look like garbo, and that's thanks to them insisting on using the Volume technology for everything, and also the shitty cosplay tier costumes. Wait, actually, that's a disservice to cosplayers. I've seen cosplay that looks
better than the wardrobe for Nuwars.
