I would like to acknowledge Rich Evan’s contribution in developing his own interpretation regarding the federation's currency and societal reputation within Star Trek. It is worth noting that many TNG enthusiasts tend to view TOS and DS9 with a certain degree of skepticism. The Star Trek fan wiki often revises information to align more closely with TNG-era perspectives. For example, the episode focusing on Sisko's Creole Kitchen presents inconsistencies with the Federation’s supposed moneyless society. In that episode, Sisko’s father owns a restaurant with employees, and the term "customers" is used, which suggests the exchange of goods or services for payment. Additionally, Sisko’s father’s concerns about losing customers during a period of martial law imply the existence of a market economy, which does not align with the Federation’s ideal of a society without money.
It seems that the writers of Deep Space Nine recognized the need to adjust the world-building and societal concepts of the Federation, especially after working on a darker, more mature narrative. Even systems based on socialism or Marxist principles inherently rely on the use of currency to function, as communism itself is built upon the presence of workers and economic exchange.
