And to be clear: I do think that criticism of that sort of shit is warranted. It's sickening how often we're seeing studios use misogyny (or whatever) as a shield to bludgeon valid criticism. But if all you're focusing on is just that, it looks and sounds really disingenuous. I'm asking because I really don't watch these guys and it seems like you do, but do they do other shit like what RLM does? By that I mean stuff like BotW or Re:view, where they either talk about stuff they like or just dredge up some random ass shit? Going back to Hambeast, he's incredibly one-note and, even if I do agree with his viewpoints (which I don't), it's fucking tiring.
  • Disparu only does play-by-play mocking of stuff. Snark is his bread and butter.
  • Doomcock is pretty the other one I know of that is 100% snark.
  • Nerdrotic will hang out with people on podcasts.
  • MauLer used to do video game defenses but nowadays he's most EFAP. Even then they have praise of stuff besides mocking. You can enjoy Troy with them (where they determine Hector is the true hero of the film) or their discussion of Boromir and Faramir from the films.
  • Film Threat does lots of stuff as established earlier.
  • Critical Drinker is not only writing his own novels, but is even involved in a semi-adaption of it.
  • Shadiversity likes to do videos analyzing weapon and barrels.
A lot of these creators even will split things up, with a channel devoted to the criticism and channels devoted to other shenanigans.

And that's not even getting into some of the Star Wars focused ones like Star Wars Theory (runs a lightsaber business, made his own short film) or Sheev Talks (will compare SW failures to more positive examples).

Ironically I dare same some people's impressions of these creators is a victim of the algorithm. "Oh you watched one of their critique vids? Let me show you the other dozens they have made instead of one of their other ones!" Some of their stuff you do have to hunt for.

In all honesty, I've never been a huge fan of those kinds of channels, going all the way back to the Nostalgia Critic, AVGN (and his clones), etc. I the more recent channels as being the spiritual successor based on the limited viewing I've seen of them, or from following idiot lolcows like Hambeast (who just appeared on my YT recommends one day and would not fucking go away.)

I'll admit a lot of it is based on my perceptions and preferences. Even if a good channel is providing interesting critique or analysis I might zone out on it, too (Noah Caldwell Whateverthefuck his last name is, for example, does like 3 hour dives on games and it's just...way too much.)

But it sounds like a lot of these dudes do do shit beyond 'Kathleen Kennedy = the Great Satan', so good on 'em. Thank you and @Tepes Thot for the info.

And pretends he's an artist

As I've mentioned, Shadow of the Conquerer* is one of the most atrocious piles of liquid shit it's ever been my displeasure to read. No, I didn't finish it, but the first 50 or so pages and some judicious skipping around, plus some in depth analyses online, convinced me the situation was not going to improve. I actually think it'd be a hoot for some Kiwis to get together and read it round robin style, like they used to do at cons with The Eye of Argon, passing the text around when the current reader can't hold in the laughter anymore.

* Definitely not the suspiciously similarly titled Shadow of the Torturer, by Gene Wolfe, first volume of the Book of the New Sun, which would truly elevate your life were you to read it.

I'm not talking about his shitty writing

I'm talking about him using AI image generation and pretending that it legitimately makes him an artist (which stems from his jealousy of his brother Jazza -of Draw with Jazza fame-, who actually is an artist, even if not that great)

Oh dear. I had completely forgotten about that, which is weird because his screeching defensiveness over criticism and the absurd pride he took in his skill at writing art prompts were absolutely what turned me off to him. Perhaps I forgot on purpose.

I love Hats Off. His podcast, Almost Cult Classics, with his friend Ryan is really good. Ryan is the star of the show when he gives his takes and small rants. They’ve also talked about movies I’ve not been familiar with and soon became some of my favorites

I'm late, won't watch the video but I hope Star Wars Man falls down some stairs for having this disgusting clickbait thumbnail appear on my recommended videos.

Gonna echo the Hats Off recommendation. I've done it already in this thread before so there's no excuse to not do it again.

Im pretty sure thats what every kid learns in school.
Its also correct. He goes out to face a half god to save his city.
LoL the Iliad being taught in schools. Maybe for us old fags.

EFAP has more fun with it as the movie has Hector being the only one speaking sense through the movie and yet is constantly asked to clean up everybody's mistake.

To echo a great comment on this: Space Cop should have been a quirky endearing movie about a group of guys trying to make a movie called Space Cop.
i think it would be better if they did it in the vein of gorilla interrupted. keep it low budget, and just goof off. dont take themselves seriously. i think they shot themselves in the foot when they tried to make it an actual movie. just have mike and rich goof off on camera as space cop.

yeah, hector being the hero isnt profound or even a 100 IQ move; literally anyone with a slight understanding of the Iliad knows this. it is along the lines of saying 'hey guys did you know Frankenstein is the doctor not the monster'

Illad is definitely not taught in public school. I only learned about it from Wishbone.
