I wonder if one of the many reasons the guys don't stream (in a time when YouTube rewards livestreaming over standard videos) is that they have to deal with awful audience bullshit like that instead of just making their videos and going about their days.

Not that they've escaped the Culture Wars, as we can see...

I've thought that for a long time. I know Mike has been Obergruppenfuhrer Stoklasa to a lot of people for a long time, but I was shocked to see Rich being cast in the same light -- maybe because as someone who's genuinely on the right I've never gotten that impression from him. If anything he seems to be the normiest of the bunch, fedoraish tendencies notwithstanding. God only knows what kinds of stuff they've seen on other message boards and reddit to put their guard up.

Oh wow that’s dumb. There were no valid points in the Apu documentary, it’s embarrassing it even exists. One faggot overthought a pretty good character, and now the Western VA industry is fucked.

On top of that, really Jack? Too privileged? Why speak on something if you believe your race makes it so you can only have a pre-approved opinion? As critics don’t they find that limiting, and as liberals isn’t that backwards to let your race decide that much?

One grasping, cynical haji saw an opportunity to fuck over an animation icon and raise his own profile and that curry stinking motherfucker took it, by Shiva.

(Pankot Palace's curry dishes use a unique blend of spices and will leave you delightfully odor-free.)

This shit is why people despise AIDS Moby: it's less to do with what he says on RLM and more to do with what he says when you do a little digging. I guess some of that bled over into Pre-Rec, which is probably one reason that Pre-Rec is no longer a thing.

He once praised a batshit insane, laughably tendentious article linking Star Wars-bashing to the alt-right, which considering who he hangs around with so much of the time was deliciously hypocritical.

The Jedi are kind of like Superman in that they're so powerful it's hard to write a good story about them. You can't treat them like other characters. But there are plenty of ordinary people in the Star Wars universe that you could write interesting stories about. Rich hates Jedi because nobody will write stories about anyone but the Jedi.
Maybe Superman if he had all the cool powers except being invulnerable. Jedi are still human (well, as long as you don't do force healing) and even their super killing abilities are at least a justification for the usual hero outclassing everyone.

The issue with Jedi is that they are space knights but no one fucking writes them as such. Either they have gay asian mysticism, or they are just individual mary sues, or they are absolutely retarded to make the writer's new mary sue (with her own unique colored light saber!) special. Just have them going around on planets settling issues and people will like it.

Jedi are some the most plot armor centered characters in pop culture stories. More Jedi have now survived Order 66 than were actually killed it's gotten so ridiculous. They've even introduced time travel to save fan favorite Jedi. They are like the Autobots from Transformers where none of them ever die, and when one finally dies like Optimus Prime, he gets brought right back (to sell more toys).

This is almost a Star Wars problem. Boba Fett comes back from the worm pit. The Emperor returns out of nowhere. Harrison Ford practically has to beg for Solo to be killed off finally. For a series called 'War' there is hardly anyone of significance actually getting killed. More people die in one season of The Sopranos than the entire extended universe of Star Wars.

What happened to the Patreon update guy? I see they posted 2 posts after they released their Acolyte video and I wanna know what the fuck they've been working on
in his absence here are their last two posts:

I thought Rich was becoming more liberal/gay because of his wife. It was pretty apparent during the later PreRecs she was on he was happy just to have a woman to be with and was agreeing to a lot of things because it would make him look better to a 2. Really, Rich is the one settling down in that relationship, probably due to his non-existent self confidence.

I mean Rich would be settling no matter what. What mortal man or woman could ever hope to be the equal of a sex god?

I personally think it's great that at least 1 fucking Youtube channel is not doing the culture war shit.
Sure, some trashy conveyor belt IPs have to be judged through that lens but RLM just doesn't give a fuck about those IPs.
They've said it years ago that they review them because it's their job.
Mike and Jay would love to only talk about obscure shit that they actually enjoy but they won't get 1.2 million views in 5 days with videos like that.

It's a cute sentiment that Youtubers shouldn't talk about things they don't care about but a proper Youtube channel is a full time job and bills need to be paid.
That being said, I'm pretty sure that at least Mike is a millionaire by now so he could experiment a bit and play it less safe if he really wanted to.

I strongly disagree with Jack's extracurriculars but they weren't why Pre-Rec failed, it's that Rich needs somebody around to bully him to prevent his head from growing three sizes every day and Jack was too agreeable to do it.
He was like an unholy combination of /v/ and a redditor whenever they streamed.

I haven't watched Pre-Rec enough to really gauge the reasons for it flopping, which is why I said Jack's various forays into off topic stuff were just one reason for it. I'd love to hear any examples you have of Rich's issues. I get the sense a lot of them showed up in the streams, which are waaaay too long for me to want to delve into.

The prequel trilogy is rife with examples of the Jedi acting as knights. Attack of the Clones has Anakin and Obi-Wan go on their own knightly quests before meeting up in the end. The Phantom Menace is a classic knightly adventure. Its also present to a lesser extent in Revenge of the Sith.

Rich says that good stories can't be written about Jedi. Rich is lying. What he means is that he doesn't like stories about Jedi because he hates that magic wizards are running around in his industrial sci-fi setting. Its as easy to write a good Jedi story as it is to write a good story about any other person. And just because that old whore Kathleen can't do it, doesn't mean it can't be done.

I'd blame it more on the extended universe and future trilogy being bottom of the barrel slop. The originals and prequels were pretty okay with characters not feeling too plot armored.

Sadly post prequels no one writes them as such despite being pretty much THE modern take on knighthood.

Re: Pre-Rec, it failed because neither Rich or Jack are deeply knowledgeable on games, and they don't actually play very many. You can tell they were forcing themselves, and brought nothing unique to the table that you can't get from any other gaming YouTube channel, or even just your own basic research. Combined with the fact that Rich and Jack have zero chemistry together, it was a recipe for failure. I actually wanted it to be better than it was.

RLM's other content is expressly given backbone by these guys having gone to film school, working on movies, and watching a ton of them. By contrast, Pre-Rec would get basic shit wrong because Rich is content to play XCOM 2 for the rest of his life, which is fine. And Jack...Fuck Jack. I don't know how he got onto The Escapist besides being AIDS Moby.

All that being said, Pre-Rec did bring a few good videos. The Order 1776 episode is a classic that feels like a BotW for a video game. I also laughed pretty hard at Mike playing Don't Shit Your Pants.

It did introduce me to FTL and Papers, Please, so I guess it wasn't all bad. I just remember turning off more videos than I finished and then just not bothering after awhile. As for the streams, I could barely get into any of them.

i didnt watch much of pre rec, just in general guys playing video games is boring content for me. but i did laugh a lot at the mike playing dont shit your pants. and i will defend aids moby a bit, i did watch through him playing police quest. it is one of the only times i have enjoyed watching anything with jack.

otherwise yeah i think the big reason why that series failed is because jack and rich together playing games is kind of boring content. just wasn't particularly exciting content.

Thanks for the rec, that actually sounds fun. Watching people play old Sierra games is always a time, since I don't have the patience for them anymore (except Hero's Quest/Quest for Glory because that series rules).
